Why not just use a spreadsheet? Plus a physical folder to keep receipts?
I personally use a Google Sheet and have a folder for each car.

I perform maintenance on my cars only 2 or 3 times a year, so I don't see the need to have a dedicated app on my phone just to track it. Do these apps do anything else? Like mileage and fuel costs?
How many cars do you have and what are their maintenance requirements?

+1 to google sheets. Nice and easy to use. It's always synced and changes are archived

I have a 2005 tsx i daily and put close to 30,000 km a year on, my wife has a 2006 acura csx and i do all the maintenance on my moms 2005 honda accord, so i figured having an app on my phone would make it a bit easier to track mileage etc.
Ya some of the apps can track fuel mileage and can actually tell you your cost per km to operate the vehicle as well as have scheduled maintenance reminders.

you can add maintenance notes to Fuelly, which is a pretty intuitive mileage/fuel tracker app.

not a specific maintenance app, but it does the job.

Fuelly has an App called aCar, which is pretty great IMO. Tracks your gas mileage and maintenance records/reminders in one.

I keep it old school and use the notes and maintenance log in the car manual. That said I do have a reoccurring reminder on my calendar every two months to make sure my car is all in check (physical inspection and topping up fluids)

Unless you have a fleet of cars, I don’t see why you need to have a fancy excel log?

+1 to Google sheets.

For those using it what do you record? I do:

- Date
- Specific car
- Mileage
- Cost of service (if any)
- What work was done (just the basic notes like "oil change", "brake fluid")
- Who did it

You can search for a specific event much more easily electronically.

Also, Fuelly shows a lot of statistics which is kinda neat to look at.

I use a separate spreadsheet for each car, and I record:

- Date
- KMS
- Work Description
- Work Performed by

I don't log cost on the spreadsheets but I do keep scans of all the parts & service receipts in a separate PDF. I also like to log when I mount my summer/winter tires to keep track of mileage that I've put on each set.

I throw all my maintenance into Evernote-- It's easier to use on the phone than any spreadsheet app, and you can create separate notebooks for your different vehicles.

Really, anything works but it's all about preference.
