Best 4K content on 4K TV?

Finally replaced the old 55" LCD 1080P with a 75" 4K...

now i'm sourcing out top 4K titles to take advantage of the resolution.

so far i've identified:

- saving private ryan 4k
- bladerunner 2049 4k
- avengers infinity war/endgame 4k
- Star Wars ROS 4K
- 007 Spectre 4K
- Star Trek II Wrath of Khan 4k (old but a personal favorite)

what else should I look for to get mind blown?

Old ass 55"

New ass 75"

Netflix

/thread

Netflix’s 4K content may not be that upper upper tier of the 4K special edition blue rays etc. But shows like altered carbon and whatnot look so good you won’t notice the difference. However you do need to upgrade to the UHD Netflix account which costs a bit more.

In terms of availability and content though it’s unmatched for 4K. Even shows like terminator 2 etc. Remastered look like they could have been shot last week

This may be just me but I watch 1080 content all the time and occasionally 4k. Sure it's nicer but I wouldn't say it makes a huge difference at the end of the day. If the movie is shit but it looks great it's still shit.

Planet Earth II looks pretty cool because what you see is the most important part. For everything else the older the better IMO. If you've already seen it in 1080p the jump to 4k isn't that big, but if the last time you saw it you were putting in a VHS it'll be a big jump.

Team Negative One has done 4k scans of original reels of Star Wars ep 4 and 6 if you're into that which are pretty impressive, they're working on ep 5 now.

IMO the key to what makes new "4K content" great is HDR, not the 4K. Look for good HDR content.

Netflix and Amazon Prime have a lot of it (If you're into cars, Grand Tour is a must)

It's not going to be something that makes you go "wow" unless you look for it. At first you'll notice the crazy bright lights even when it's in a dark scene, and stuff like that.

Eventually you get used to it and it just makes everything you watch much more immersive.

Just make sure you can black out the room. I bought blackout curtains at Ikea that work really well for a good price

What are you doing for audio? For me, it's not just the picture, you need the audio to go with it. I can see it looks like a main living room, so a set of Atmos home theater speakers wouldn't fit the aesthetics, but the new generation of sound bars are 'good enough'.

well.. if i want the 'full theater' experience, i just head downstairs to my theater room featuring 180" projection screen with HD projector (only 1080P) but with a 7.1 system with ceiling mounted speakers, subwoofer etc....beer mini fridge included hahah.

the 75" 4K is for general purpose TV viewing but i prefer it over the theater room right now. however, it can be hooked up to 2 ceiling mounted speakers for better sound. i dont want to make my living room too 'busy' with electronics.

Nice. Same with me. 55"4k for general/kids though it is hooked up to a compact 7.1 system I had from before.
My den has a 65" Sony set up with a 5.2.4 Atmos setup. The height speakers make a huge difference for movies.

I like The Martian, 13 hours has a nice hdr transfer for all the night scenes. What really pops is Animation in 4k. Lego movies, or Spiderman into the spiderverse are brilliant in 4k.

you got the right idea.

you just need to upgrade your speakers and probably your subwoofer unit LOL. Those speakers are puny.

Good 4k remasters are Terminator 2 and The Matrix. They removed the grain from T2 which kinda takes away from the original but picture is so clear. The Matrix restored the green hue in the first movie. The 1080p releases of the first movie was given a blue hue to match the 2nd and 3rd movies.

What I really want is Big Trouble In Little China in 4k and other childhood favourites like The Goonies. A lot of 4k is kinda meh, I love Scarface but the 4k wasn't a big improvement over the 1080p.

The Lion King remake in 4k HDR looked pretty stunning.

It's the only movie in recent memory where I could really visually tell that the quality better than normal :-)
