Also, why is a government account peddling such ideas?

I believe its implied already that its excessive speeding (40km or more), but sure however you want to interpret it and apply it your own situation. That ferrari driver has to be dumb af and/or have 0 disregard for other people's safety if you are bombing it at 190km on the STS on the long weekend, or even in the afternoon.

Speeding is a crime but letting crack heads sleep in parks is a good idea. :rukidding:

what's stricter licensing requirement or education supposed to look like?

go through a 6 week training on how to counter hydroplaning and not hog passing lane?

it's already 3 years wait and two exams

tougher requirement is not gonna stop an asshole from getting behind a high performance vehicle and put public at risk

dark0821 09-07-2020 06:09 PM

^ that....

tbh, I dont have a solution for everyone....

someone commented that s2s is a hwy which i agree with 100%. And tbh, any decent car is gonna feel dead boring on any public road, and by decent I mean cars even like the GTI, so yea..

lambo... public road ... wanting to have fun.. its gonna end badly one of these days (you may get lucky most of the times, but with that kind of performance... with this kind of road)...

Sigh...hoping for speedy recovery for everyone....

President of the Diamond Rally claims that "the highway drive is not part of the event" :rukidding:

LET US BUILD MORE TRACKS!!!!!

The last one built was VIMC and it’s been wrapped up in legal battles ever since. They hate us playing on the streets but won’t let us build venues to safety do it out of the public

punkwax 09-07-2020 07:27 PM

Stumbled across the Langley Speedway during a family walk through Campbell Valley Park a month or so ago. I had no idea it even existed: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lang...itish_Columbia)

Problem is they're disgustingly expensive and equally disgustingly expensive to keep running. Unless you happen to be sitting on some land your great great great grandfather gave you, a new track without huge financial backing and being subsidized by another stream of cashflow, it's not happening.

Look at the ring. One of the most famous tracks in the world that's been around forever, has tons of paying customers has almost gone tits up like 100 times last month.

Manic! 09-07-2020 07:50 PM

A simple NHRA cert dragstrip with a gravel return road will cost 5 mill.

320icar 09-07-2020 08:00 PM

Motorsport in general. Look at VMC who I used to run with. One of the last places we could autox is at Pitt Meadows airport. The land sold, we cannot use it now, JIBC won’t share their side of the tarmac. Autox is cheap AF.

How about hillclimbs or street courses like Knox hillclimb in kelowna?? We could easily do that up cypress or any other mountain road, but they’d never let it happen.

How about rallycross? We did one event in Squamish before it was completely shut down and won’t ever be allowed back.

Shall I continue?

trollface 09-07-2020 08:12 PM

Why is the squamish one gone?

twitchyzero 09-07-2020 08:23 PM

do you really want range rovers on a track?

While more tracks and closed events would be great, according to the website the Diamond Rally starts out doing runs on an airstrip so this guy crashing doesn't really help that cause.

I don’t think I’m an authority to speak on behalf of anyone, but Coles notes was that the logging facility which is rented from the Squamish native band was fine with the event. The organizers went to the band and got all of their approval, and everything was in order. Then after the event the band was upset with what we did (paper trail with signed papers shows they were fully aware on what the event was) and threatened to end the 100 year old lease with the logging facility etc. Big shît show.

This weekend a rallycross was held in pemberton at the speedway, not sure how it all turned out

Blame the organizers more than the tracks. If you’ve ever gone and tracked with TSS you’ll see we’re an amazing group. A good organizer wouldn’t let shit fly

I’m fully aware what the event is, I’ve been there 2 years in a row (no I’m not part of it or a participant, I’m a pleb lol). Ignore what the organizer might say, the day starts in Vancouver and the cruise up the s2s is definitely part of the day. Roll racing at the airstrip is somewhat controlled but it’s no professionally organized track day

320icar 09-07-2020 09:13 PM

I think I should clarify, I’m just giving another perspective. I do not condone street racing on public roads, and I 100% think this should be the last year of the event. Clearly it’s just a bad fucking thing that’s not going to get any better.

There is sooo much money involved with shit like the diamond rally. Why not organize like a 2-3 day cruise through wine country ending at a27?

Everyone here would know the difference, but to the people who would be against any kind of track it's the same thing. Especially since if these guys really wanted to do a pull they should've been able to do it at the airstrip.

190 is the average speed for a sportbike on the S2S.
It's not even that fast.

Just saying.

160 average 220 max.

twitchyzero 09-08-2020 09:11 AM

should’ve grabbed Suzuka blue and cruise at 140 min

tofu1413 09-08-2020 10:27 AM

Friend of mine's kid set this up for the crash victims.

this is the least we can do as a car community.

This was my first and probably my last event (i went to represent my store) and it was very unfortunate that such circumstances had to happen to the General public.

Just feel fortunate no fatalities, but the family affected has a long road to recovery ahead and a scary memory for a September long weekend.

trollface 09-08-2020 11:13 AM

Not to be a dick, but why do they need money to buy a new car? The last thing on their mind is buying a new Toyota.
Insurance and the pending lawsuits against Diamond Rally/Driver/ everyone is going to buy them and everyone on the street a G Wagon. Seems like default for anything bad happening is a fire up the Go-fund-me.

+1.

This go fund makes no sense, insurance will deal with the costs related to the accident.

Hondaracer 09-08-2020 11:23 AM

I think the “least” the car community could do is not have dangerous rallies up dangerous highways full of douche bags driving cars they can’t control.

tofu1413 09-08-2020 11:29 AM

A bit of kindness between strangers goes a long way. $5-10 here and there.

i'm not forcing anyone here to donate, but thats what I feel like contributing wise as I was technically part of the event.
