That's why the organizer is buying them a Subaru!! /s

This truly makes no sense - if they were un/under-insured, or have immediate financial impact because sometimes insurance takes a while to pay, then maybe, but that needs to be stated.

Insurance and the pending lawsuits against Diamond Rally/Driver/ everyone is going to buy them and everyone on the street a G Wagon. Seems like default for anything bad happening is a fire up the Go-fund-me.

+1.

This go fund makes no sense, insurance will deal with the costs related to the accident.

That awkward moment when you realize the organizer is a 10 year old kid

The crash struck a chord with a 10-year-old boy from West Vancouver. He doesn’t know the children who were hurt, but wants to help.

Bear Yeung has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family affected, his goal is to raise $20,000 to buy a new car to replace the damaged Toyota.

“I felt very upset (about the crash), I felt very sorry for the family and I also felt very, very, very angry at people who drive dangerously (because) it really affected them,” Leung said. “Us kids are going back to school this week and now they can’t go to school, they’re in a hospital bed.”

Damn.

That being said, 10 year olds these days have a grasp of how much $20K is??

Fuck when I was 10 my weekly allowance was $5, if anybody asked me how much I thought I should fundraise I would have said $500.

It might be tough if the drivers signed/agreed to a release of liability waiver.

Also, the Lambo was registered in Alberta so it's going to be a long fight for all parties involved. And on social media a few witnesses at the scene said the kids weren't wearing seatbelts. This gives the Lambo insurer more reasons to fight any payout demands.

JDMDreams 09-08-2020 12:41 PM

I bet this will barely be on the news if it wasn't a lambo involved. Let's say an Asian see lai driving a beige Corolla. Which probably represents 50%+ of accidents in Vancouver/ Richmond. Wasn't there a few people that died in the massey tunnel last week? Where's the go fund me for that.:considered:

That’s the difference between an actual accident and criminal negligence.

The head on collision in the Massey tunnel last week 100% deserves criminal negligence, since after merging into one lane via flashing yellow lights and a completely blocked lane and all signage, they merged back into the on-coming counterflow and killed someone.

I’m aware they’re different

trollface 09-08-2020 01:31 PM

Does anyone know if modern cars log if REAR seatbelts were engaged? I can see the front ones recording some kind of data since airbags won't turn on.

Kinnda he said she said if they were wearing belts or not. I guess they can open up the seatbelt mechanism and see if there was a lot of force applied to the belt/mechnmism/injuries from the belt due to the crash etc or something. CSI time.

I believe all modern cars have pre-tensioned seat belts when an accident is detected, as well as peel-away hard points. They’ll know right away if the seatbelts were used to hold in a human, or just sat there unused

Having had family deal with an injury claim before, there's a lot of out of pocket expenses that need to be incurred. You can claim them back eventually, but depending on the complexity of the case, it could take years for it to be settled and will involve a load of work keeping records also (ours took over a year and it was a pretty straight forward case). Not everyone has the cash flow to deal with incidents of this magnitude either. Thankfully, it was just one family member for us and we had our hands full. I can't even fathom what their situation is like.

People who gets major claims are likely damaged for life. You're on the losing end regardless of monetary amount.

I didn't see the age of the kids, but if they were in child seats or boosters where the belt is locked in all the time it may not give them any clues

I'm going address the elephant in the room:

An accident like this makes ALL CAR ENTHUSIASTS in the Lower Mainland look bad

Including the vast majority of us on RS, who are passionate about cars, but don't drive supercars and do not have the funds to "sweep things under the rug"

Uh, that's not an elephant in the room at all...

Also, maybe thankfully, in the public's eye there are "car enthusiasts" and "rich pricks" - in this case public opinion is more swayed to the latter.

When pigs fly lol.

We all go into the "Guy with loud, expensive car when I can hardly afford housing so fuck em" bucket.

!LittleDragon 09-09-2020 11:39 AM

I gave up on sports cars about 10 years ago because I didn't want to be associated with the crowd anymore. MR2's been sitting in the garage since and might see the road once a year. Instead, I've owned normal unmodified sleeper sedans that would do 0-60 in 6s or less. Nobody bats an eye at me... I just blend in... lol

twitchyzero 09-09-2020 01:18 PM

ultimate sleeper for 0-60: model 3 performance
