Stolen steering wheel - R-magic limited

So someone decided to bust into my car and do a little early xmas shopping. Lost the deck and shift knob, which was pretty common, but the steering wheel is a bit out of the ordinary, there were only a few hundred made so if you see something like this pop up on the market or a 'friend of a friend' scored one for a killer deal... let me know

the fuck, someone scope it out ahead of time or was it sitting on the seat?..

you think anyone who doesn't own an aftermarket steering wheel wouldn't know how to unlock one off the hinges?

or it is relatively easy a monkey can do it?????

twitcvhy i believe so, at least they spared the windshield.

It was connected by a quick release nrg hub. Partially my fault for not taking it off and bringing it in like I used to.

Won't icbc just pay you out. Doesn't really matter if found or not, they will just give your replacement cost? Unless you cheaped out and only bought collision.......

They don't pay you for mods, they pay you to return to OEM... unless you buy special extra insurance for that purpose.

I always thought they pay you for what you have, same part as long as it was bolted to the car. I was in an accident many years ago and my car had an adjustable eibach shock that was damaged and they replaced it with the same part. Same with my flip out single din that was stolen. Replaced with same or modern equivalent if discontinued. Unless they changed their policy.

Hmm well their policy actually says if its bolted in and you have receipts......... but I know from experience its not infinite. At a certain point they cap it or expect you to have bought extra insurance for your mods at x amount per $1000 or something like that... I had a set of wheels they would only 50% cover and a DVD deck back in the day they also capped at a standard CD player replacement.

They only pay you out if you file a police report.

My daily got broken into and my deck got stolen.
wasn't covered. Had reciept and everything.

Figured I would just call dial-a-claim and went into the claim center.

They only offered to fix the chrome window trim and the door that they pryed to get inside. And being an old GS400, it was expensive af and would've almost written off the car.

I countered with deck replacement, and I would replace the door myself. No go. Even though I had a parts car sitting in my driveway.

They said, since I didn't file a police report, I couldn't verify that the deck was stolen. Even though the factory harness was cut off.
And going into the claim center only proved that the door was mangled.

Go figure.

So... you’re kind of freaking me out. Is this just for theft? What about modified cars? Or in accidents? I mean... look at my RS, it’s got a pretty penny into it. None of that is covered?

In my experience for accidents ICBC doesn’t care or factor in mods or $$$ you’ve spent... I brought receipts for my 93 MR2 Turbo when it got totalled and they didn’t care or factor it into their valuation.

That said, they let you strip whatever you want off after as long as you replace it with an equivalent (ie: rip your fancy stereo out and just shove the OEM one back in... or take your wheels but put some kind of wheels back on.

I mean, in a really ugly accident with other parties involved / injured if it’s your fault there’s some risk of the other party saying your car caused further injury due to mods, etc. It’s a bit of a gamble.

Last year my wife's CRV was rear ended and written off. ICBC deducted $150 from the settlement because I took out the dvd player and put back in the stock deck.

YMMV

ICBC paid me for a set of KW coilovers in an accident where I hit a lost load on the highway. It was no fight at all. The shop my car was at just sent them the product listing and they paid for them to be replaced, no hassle, no questioning it.
That said, I'd bet your OEM wheel list price is probably more than that anyways, unfortunately that doesn't help you recover a rare part that you liked.

Yeah it’s just kind of made me worried. Half my car is CF now. Even a little fender bender would be big $$$ and I assume icbc would fix it to how it was pre-accident

Can't speak on accidents, but I know they'll only cover up to $5k aftermarket parts if the car is stolen. Beyond that you need extra coverage. At least that's how it was 15 years ago when my car got ganked.

can confirm, lost a voltex type 5, ICBC paid out $3500, thank god for having the receipt eh... receipt was in $2700 USD at the time...

no fight at all as well, did have a police report, i guess just your luck with your adjuster?

literally woke up to a wingless trunk delete, at least the thief left the trunk base plates (no dmg to the trunk), so they stole the extension + wing only...

**cant believe I thought such a big wing was cool at a point in my life...
