Hopefully there won't be huge line ups for rides.. Half the day is wasted just standing there.

Never go to the PNE for rides, total waste of time, way too busy.

Hit Playland for the rides, and PNE for the food/booze.

Vansterdam 07-06-2021 05:47 AM

went to playland last year during covid and there was barely any lines.. same deal limited tickets per day.. was pretty sweet although u had to mask on when ur walking around + in line but that was worth it lol

Ever go to the adult nights where it was 19+ to enter? Walk around with beer, no kids yelling and screaming, barely any lines, and not have to worry about the conversations we have knowing there isn't a 5 year old behind us listening to the crap we say and then repeating it to their parents who are sitting beside them.

Didn't see anything on that. I'm holding out for this bad boy 90s Nostalgia Tour

PNE opens tomorrow. I have tickets for Sunday. If any of you are going on Saturday, can you let the rest of us know what to expect? I'll do the same. I received an email from them letting me know there are no in and out privileges.

The Marketplace is outdoors. Hopefully under good cover. All of a sudden, it's sounding pretty shitty. However, I'm still looking forward to it.

Was pretty upset to find that my favorite ride, the wooden roller coaster will be shut down all year and several other rides are currently down 😔

Will let ya know how it is tomorrow.

N.V.M. 08-21-2021 05:47 AM

the Challenger Relief Map is back. lol. 25 years later.

i guess that means you all have to google that now to see wtf it is.

MG1 08-21-2021 06:40 AM

After all the work that went into making that map, I’m glad they kept it. I imagined carpenter ants getting in where the tiles were being stored.

Really? Fuck lol I'm going Tuesday and was meeting some peeps in the day time then head home to nap the young one before heading back later to meet another group of peeps........

MG1 08-21-2021 01:25 PM

Daughter wants to stay for the pyro show? fireworks? My sons will be gone in under an hour, lol. Anyway, with no in and out privileges, that's gonna suck.

Gotta take my seniors nap, cot dam it.................at least twice. There's no bingo, either. Maybe casino. I wAnder if Hastings Park Casino is part of the PNE, gulolol. I'd be "in" for that.

Hoping stewie will give deets on what's worth going to see. BTW, I hate the agridome. The smell of animals make me throw up faster than Vansterdamned's girlfriend.

yeah what the hell's up with that?
https://www.pne.ca/rides/#ride_type=...&rider_height=

the beast looks wicked.

Hondaracer 08-21-2021 03:01 PM

It’s very busy and very scaled down. Basically appreciate it for what it is and support this year so it can be back in full capacity next. I’d say 3/4 of the rides are available. Lots of kiddy rides etc. The big shows such as super dogs is in the amphitheater where the demolition derby used to be.

We are a 5 minute walk to the gate so we will come 5-6 times just to eat and drink but I’d say if you live in Surrey/Langley and pay for a family to come out it’s somewhat disappointing.

Lots of food options and gambling is still here lol, hit dat 10 to 1 with $5 down

I didn't see the "Those lil donuts" main mini donut vendor on the list that was published? Are they not present on this year???

Hondaracer 08-21-2021 04:49 PM

They are not. The “world famous” standard ones you always see wit the machines beside the tills are seemingly not here

68style 08-21-2021 05:54 PM

Lame!

Vansterdam 08-21-2021 08:17 PM

soo no og mini donuts or wooden coaster this year? yah thats a no for me dawg

that shit is what makes the pne lol

Mr.Money 08-21-2021 09:41 PM

https://cincityvancity.com/

so these guys make them fresh on the spot if anyone is looking, Good reviews so far.

MG1 08-21-2021 09:48 PM

Yeah, those guys have a storefront on Broadway. Across from Kingsgate Mall.

They were also at the PNE drive thru event last year.

Does anyone know if Jimmy's is still around? Also, Hunky Bills.

Was nothing special. Same as always only less people which still seemed like a lot but that's probably because it was the first day. If you're adamant on the whole social distancing thing this is not the place to be lol. Out of all the rides we went on, which was basically everything multiple times, we only got delayed once when the ride had to be shut down for 10 minutes so everything could be sanitized.

I hope I don't have a daughter one day... The 12-16 year olds there need a smack on the back of the head. One who was in front of us was bragging to her friends that she had stolen some vodka from her parents and mixed it in her water bottle and all her teeny bopper friends thought she was bad ass. Some of them wear clothes that you'd expect to see a 20+ year old in a club wearing. Overheard a group of 3 girls dressed like hookers talk to their friends in the same line up but a bit further away so they had to speak a but louder than normal.. Those 3 girls were boasting how they put respectable clothes on when they left home and then took them off when they got to one of their houses so their parents wouldn't see them like that...

Games are all cashless and the prizes arent that great this year. Market place was mediocre at best. Managed to watch the superdogs but their website says 5:30pm whereas its actually 7. Prize home was horrible. Its like walking through an empty room with some ikea furniture and pictures on the wall of what it would look like. Challenger map piece was a let down. I thought it would be a lot bigger than what it was. Seemed like a 15' x 15' section and I've no clue where that section of the map was from.

Would I go back again this year? Probably not. Unless I was in the area and wanted to pig out on some food, which even then was average.
Hotdog shoved in a pickle and deep fried was an okay corn dog. Bacon wrapped foot long hotdog was meh, perogies were okay, chow mein was meh. Ate more donuts than I probably should've.

Got my fix for the year.

It's just not the same :(

Hondaracer 08-22-2021 07:56 AM

^ we grabbed a bag on the way out from the one closest to the “green gate” they were pretty good I’d say, almost on par with the classics

One thing that really pisses me off snd is a huge mistep for them is they have these fucking 75 year olds serving booze. Like Jesus Christ the guy takes 10 minutes to serve 2 beers when there’s a 8 group lineup, gets you to pay first, waits for that, pours the beers. Like booze should be a priority in service speed :rukidding:

I’d say mask usage was about 15% or so? While the capacity is much lower the size of the total area is also much smaller. It never really felt overly crowded though. Pics from the 7pm super dog show:

We brought my niece who is 3 to go on some rides etc. And it seemed pretty overwhelming to her because she’s never really been to an event like this with so many people as she really doesn’t know much more than the covid world lol

stewie 08-22-2021 11:10 AM

^ I'm a bit blurry but I can see myself

MG1 08-22-2021 11:33 AM

Damn, got me a Beast cup. I’m all good now. $9.00 with no refills. I don’t care, I just want the only cup that’s big and fits in the cup holder of my daily driver.

I’m having a colossal onion, atm. Good shit. Fully loaded.

Eatman 08-22-2021 11:43 AM

Gonna be heading out to the PNE in a bit with the wife and kid and another family. I hope our experience is not as bad as stewie's review was. I'm not expecting anything too fantastic as these are Covid years, but I do hope it's something fun for my daughter to experience for the first time.
