Got it. Thanks for that.

Why not get one that's built in? I dont know anyone who has one.

At work, I bought 3 all-in-one HP desktops. They have a built in webcam. It works great. Audio and mic is good too.

AIC wouldn't be my first choice, but boss likes them and think it's good value.

Lenovo and I think Dell makes some models with built-in webcams. They're generally not great, and also if they break then you're SOL.

At home I have a ThinkPad T460. The webcam is like 480p for a 2017 model LOL. Mic quality is attrocious.

For WFH, I'd highly recommend going with an actual mic set-up, unless you don't want to be heard in meetings. I just did 3 zoom interviews and had to use my phone + wireless earbuds instead.

Funny enough, I had a ThinkPad T460 and yes, the webcam and mic sucks ass.

I recently got a Dell but prefer using my Surface paired to my Microsoft headphones.

For a hipster like you, I expect 2 of these:

Seriously though...

From what you have listed, I'd say a good 30+ monitor with 4k or more would suffice. If you truly need the real estate, go for a ultrawide like a LG or Samsung. The aspect ratio allows multiple screens simultaneously.

The only problem is that because it's so wide, your head actually needs to turn when viewing from one side to the other. Some get used to it, but I never could. I prefer to just moving my eyes from end to end.

4K because it doesn't make too much sense to not go nowadays. The difference in price is marginal when you consider the operating life of a monitor (easily 3+ years). And any modern system should be able to drive it without too much effort since you aren't gaming.

One year’ish bump.

Never got around to buying the monitors but plan to do so in a few weeks.

I have an Odyssey G9 for work that primarily consists of Excel, Outlook, multiple Chrome windows, and Teams. It has the aspect ratio of 2 monitors, but the absence of the middle bezel makes arranging windows a lot better. The curvature is also nice because it provides a more uniform distance when turning your head to look at different parts of the monitor.

To manage all the windows, I use a MS tool called Fancy Zones (part of their Power Toys tool) which lets me snap windows into a predefined layout.

In my defense you never provided a budget!

I would look into Dell monitors - I believe their QC is better than other brands from what I gathered during my research. Sometimes you can score some decent deals when combined with Rakuten 10%+ cashback.

How about something like this?

I have an asus monitor and a new acer 32" from costco.

Just realized my dell laptop can't run dual monitors without paying for a $200 - 400 dock :(, tried a HDMI to DVI adapter on a cheaper 1 HDMI output dock but doesn't work lol.

bcrdukes 01-05-2023 10:35 AM

lol ouch

I do have a docking station so I think I'm okay on that part. Likely I will only run a single monitor setup. I tried dual monitor at the office and I've come to learn that I don't need it

I think I might just get a Dell P-series or something cheap from Costco
