Neighbor next door had a loud ass party, screaming, bass heavy music until 1am

Couldn't sleep.

Pissed me the hell off then I realized it was Saturday Evening and Christmas.

Pulled the stick outta my ass and booted up GT7, grinded all gold on I-B license test.

Merry Christmas y'all.

My parents got sick last week, and while they have gotten better, they still haven't completely recovered, so all the family celebrations -- including the Chinese Winter Solstice and Christmas celebrations -- have been cancelled.

But at least they are still in good spirits, and they are still video-calling the little person on a daily basis.

Ah well... things happen and you keep calm and carry on.

I hope everyone is still having a happy and relaxed Christmas with your family and loved ones!

Merrrrrrrrrrrrry Xmas!

I got a new pair of sunglasses (Ray Ban Justin which are basically Wayfarers but without the stupid angled design that lets all the sun in at the top), a Le Creuset frying pan (I had no idea they made frying pans but it looks good), next year's Hana Kimura (RIP) calendar (I think they're running out of pictures to use of her, as they double up the months on this one), and some freshly roasted coffee from a place down the road from my bro's in Kawasaki that I would go to whenever I visit him (been 3 years now since then). Also Marvel's Midnight Suns (runs kind of shitty on my PC, have to look into that).

All I really want is for everyone to be healthy and content going forward; this stuff is all just a nice bonus

Most importantly my wife's mom is with us for the first time in years, and we had a really nice ribeye roast. Nothing too fancy, everything was kept basic and tasty: Mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, beet salad, other sides

Merry Christmas!

We had a great dinner with my family last night. My mom has retired from turkey duty because my sister and her family bought smoked turkey and brisket from Patina, and it was so good that it's going to be the new Christmas dinner..

Got cash from my parents, and booze from my BIL. My wife and I didn't exchange any gifts since we just buy something if we really want it.

I bought all my friends Trombone Champ. Great game, but not if you're not playing it or watching someone play. Then, it's just fucking annoying.

Maybe times have changed (for me), but the holiday seasons don't feel the same anymore as when I was younger. Over the years, I've slowly noticed I started to care less and less and my parents, aunt/uncle, were the ones that arranged the extended fam gatherings.

I remember growing up and seeing my cousins a lot, and getting gifts from my uncles and aunts. But people have their own stuff to do now, not all of them are local, people have other arrangements with their own immediate families, maybe it was more of an incentive when both my grandparents were still alive. Before I knew it, we got too old for gifts, we stopped organizing gatherings over the holidays. Sometimes I wonder if I will even talk or see them again in another 20-30~ years or whenever the "parents" are no longer around to arrange the gatherings...

lol.. my bad, just realized I kind of went off topic.

Merry Christmas, RS fam.!

I can certainly relate to that to a "T". But now that I am older, the least you can do is try to reach out to your cousins and extended family to make something happen. Taking the first step to reach out is all it takes and so far for the past 15+ years, I've been able to stay close to my family even if they're on the other side of the continent or in another country. What made it worthwhile was hearing them tell me that if it weren't for me, they'd never would have stayed in touch and kept close as a family.

Same here, Pandemic was a good excuse to end the "tradition" of gift giving. Haven't looked back since.

It's interesting, I was just thinking how important and fun the gift giving part is to xmas, in bringing us closer and more familiar with each other... But it looks like nobody likes that part anymore, and are all saying how much xmas sucks now! To each their own!

What are tough socks, having a hard time with stylish socks that would last more than a few months.

My wife complains me driving manual doesn't help.

Sounds like none of the people that have posted so far have kids… try doing a Christmas with no presents if you have kids!

Darn tough is a brand.
If you wear a hole in them they’ll replace the pair for free, for life.

They are like $30 though, but most retailers currently have them on sale till the end of the year.

The last time gifts were really involved was maybe when I was like 17-18. Like I'm talking gifts under the Christmas tree kind of thing.

As I got older, my parents just gave me red pocket money.

My bigger family gatherings with the extended family stopped giving gifts to the kids once we all got older. It was more of just a gathering, which was fine. But the whole gift giving tbh, never seemed that big among the "adults". I didn't see my parents give gifts to my aunts/uncles, and vice versa. It was always just adults to the kids.

I grew up never exchanging gifts with siblings or family, and for the most part, friends either. Unless it was a planned Gift Exchange gathering. Or I get into this thing where he and she bought me a gift last year, so I guess I'll return the favour this year, etc. (Honestly, it's probably that feeling I hate the most. Feeling like I owe people something afterward)

If I'm buying gifts for people, I'm the type of guy that gets a bit stressed out, because I worry if I'm getting junk they don't want. And like the saying goes, only treat others how you would like to be treated, lol.... I didn't want junk either. (I mean that as an adult. As a kid, I didn't give AF. More gifts the better.)

My wife and I stopped doing gifts for each other after we got married. Since we buy stuff we want throughout the year anyway, lol. Sometimes we'll buy something nice and associate it as the gift for that occasion, but it's not a wrapped and surprise kind of gift. I guess we're both just not "gift" people and don't really value that "it's the thought that counts" anymore.

It's interesting to see how people celebrate Christmas differently. I have friends that go out buying gifts for each family member, and vice versa. I honestly couldn't even picture that with my fam.

Christmas is pretty low key for me now, but a big part of it feels like it's only because I feel old now, and all this stuff has been done before. I'm not missing anything if I have a low key Christmas. The pandemic sure made me realize I don't actually care, lol.. But with a newborn now, we're going to have to start bringing back some traditions. I would hate if my kid didn't get to experience Christmas like the way I did when I was a kid.

Had my first xmas with my parents since 2012, only the second time I've seen them in the last 3 years. They are staying with us until the end of the week and honestly counting the days until they go home, they are so much work, lol.

Went to my brother in laws house last night to see my wifes family, they are a little more normal than my whack ass family.

We still do.gifts for my son, I personally like the small xmas with just me, my wife and my son.

We have a tradition where we do Friendmas on Christmas Day.

I grab a bunch of meat and cook up a feast and friends come over with expensive booze and we get mangled. I ended up making short ribs in a red wine sauce, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts, my buddy's wife brought over Pozole. Also made a big pot of mulled wine.

We had a feast and stayed up until 3am drinking scotch and rum.

I find having a Friendmas is so much more fun and less stressful than the typical family fest. Of course we see family over the holidays but doing it this way more enjoyable.
