The IOC is planning on getting rid of hockey and replacing it with something called bandy.
It's like hockey but the size of the ice sheet is way bigger similar size to a soccer field. You have 11 players on the ice for each team the goalie has no stick and the game starts with a stroke off. They also use a round ball instead of a puck.
This was a demo sport at the 1992 Olympics but now they want it to take the place of hockey. What a joke!!!! Rumours is some rich Swiss and middle eastern billionaires are behind this. Some middle eastern dudes kid is big into the game so his dad is putting tons of money into it.
reuters - In a shocking move, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that they will be replacing ice hockey with the sport of bandy in future Winter Olympics.
The decision was reportedly made after months of consideration and consultation with various sporting bodies. Bandy, a sport similar to ice hockey, but played with a ball rather than a puck, is hugely popular in Sweden, Finland, and Russia, and is gaining popularity in other countries around the world.
"We believe that bandy is a great addition to the Winter Olympics and will bring a fresh new dynamic to the games," said an IOC spokesperson. "The sport is fast-paced, exciting, and highly competitive, and we think it will be a huge hit with fans and athletes alike."
The announcement has been met with mixed reactions, with some ice hockey fans expressing their disappointment, while others are intrigued to see how bandy will fare on the Olympic stage.
Many athletes have also expressed their excitement at the prospect of competing in the new sport. "I've never played bandy before, but I'm definitely up for the challenge," said one Olympic hopeful. "It's always great to have new sports added to the mix, and I think it will be a lot of fun to learn and compete in bandy."
The IOC has not yet announced which Winter Olympics bandy will make its debut, but many are already looking forward to seeing the sport in action. Only time will tell if this bold move by the IOC will pay off, but one thing is for sure: the Winter Olympics will never be the same again.
