I went to check this bad boy out in Hong Kong. The price is utterly ridiculous at 2.26 million hkd (400k Canadian) but my god is it ever nice inside. At 6’2 the leg room isn’t quite enough to fully stretch out but anyone shorter you can lay the fuck down for sure.

If I were to sit up, I can probably fit 4 of those “chickens” from temple street in the back of this thing

Iirc HK is 100% tax on cars. So it would actually be around 200K CAD

That umbrella holder is ghetto. I'd expect it to be inside the door ala RR. Even Skoda has the umbrella holder in the door.

Ease of access for the plebe that'll be holding it for you as you get out?

Also, from a practical standpoint, wouldn't that let a wet umbrella drain better? I feel that the door holders would get mildewy sooner, and not dry out as quickly.

These have really gone up in price compared to the previous gen - the emperor suite was around 1.8-1.9M HKD IIRC.

When I'm in HK I mostly see LMs around the business district - the people I know stick to new Alphards / Vellfires for family duty plus a separate car (or cars) to drive on their own.

It gets taxed at different brackets and maxes out at 132%.

I. Private cars
  1. (a) on the first $150,000 46%
  2. (b) on the next $150,000 86%
  3. (c) on the next $200,000 115%
  4. (d) on the remainder 132%

Chump change for Badhobz lol

prelude_prince 11-06-2023 08:45 PM

Price is ridiculous in HK right now, maybe later when then have JDM "water goods" it will be different like the Alphard market

JDMDreams 11-06-2023 09:58 PM

What's the difference with the water stock? Isn't it still like 100% tax? Unless jdm MSRP is lower?

MSRP may be different, for instance, it still is cheaper buying water stock FL8 (and those people are driving them for like half a year now, vs the guys still waiting to pay for their FL8 here from the dealer). Also options.

Let's say you purchase a fully loaded car here in HK at 100k, and the total is 200k because tax is 100% on the final price of the car.

Or you buy a non-full loaded water stock car at 70k, get taxed 100% at 70k, buy options seperately for 30k, and install them. your total car price = 170k vs 200k buying the fullload from the dealer.

JDMDreams 11-07-2023 08:05 PM

Good to know thanks:ahwow:

asian_XL 11-08-2023 05:01 AM

there's already 30 to 40, 30 to LM350 conversion kit. Can't wait to see 30 to LM500h kit lol

JDMDreams 11-08-2023 06:44 AM

We can't get 30 here yet :QQ: still waiting for the 20 to trickle in

Badhobz 11-08-2023 06:53 AM

i cant wait till the 30's are here (2015 was the earliest one, so 2030 is the earliest we can get them). The 20's arent bad but it looks like my royal lounge was only up to 2011 so its hard to find.

Dbone 11-08-2023 02:07 PM

What's 'water stock'?

Is that like grey market or something?

EvoFire 11-08-2023 03:17 PM

Yeah they mean gray market. Water stock is the canto street slang for it.

asian_XL 11-09-2023 02:21 AM

why don't you get the LHD Alphard 30s from China, does it fall into the 15yrs rule?

3.5L is gas guzzler, 2.5L is slow, hybrid seems to be a better choice in Canada, but hard to find one in low milage.

I have driven Alphard since their 10s, it is a oversized Camry that carries 7 people, not sure what's so excited about owning one. Get Senna, same shit.

JDMDreams 11-09-2023 06:47 AM

It's the packaging and tech, sienna is like crap compared to Alphard. Jdm is leagues above usdm counter parts.

Badhobz 11-09-2023 06:49 AM

I didnt know we can import one from China..... ill have to take a looksy.

That royal lounge 2 seater option is so pimp, thats the only reason i want one. I dont care how it drives. Although Dukes did say that the veilfire lacked insulation and the road noise was quite significant, i wonder if thats the case with the alphard royal lounge too.

3.5 is the only one im willing to get because its the 2GR-FE. Easy to get parts and fix if needed.

JDMDreams 11-09-2023 08:43 AM

I think tw and Korea is also lhd.

bcrdukes 11-09-2023 03:37 PM

Re: Vellfire

A relative drove us from Hong Kong to Macau in their Vellfire. The road noise was quite loud the entire ride. Sure, you can drown it out by cranking the audio volume, but it wasn’t quiet by any means.

You can get a regular Alphard, buy the LM350 kit, order a pair of Chinese custom made Royal lounge seats. I dont know, then hang a 50" TV BrokeBack

2.5 with CVT is butter smooth, 3.5 with 6spd is noisy, D4-S 8spd should be much better.

JDMDreams 11-10-2023 09:12 AM

How's the reliability of the cvt? It is still a 15 year old 2000s cvt. I never owned a cvt before. I prefer traditional trannys:joy:

bcrdukes 11-10-2023 09:16 AM

Toyota CVTs are generally reliable and aren’t known to fail. They’ve done a good job at optimizing CVTs to almost feel like an automatic. Nissan CVTs, though. :inout:
