Top Iranian military commanders were among the seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) officials killed in an airstrike on the country’s consulate building in Damascus, Syria, according to Iranian officials and state-affiliated media, which blamed Israel for the attack.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that senior IRGC commander Mohammed Reza Zahedi was killed in the attack. Haji Rahimi was named as the second commander killed in the attack, according to the IRGC statement shared by state news agency IRNA later on Monday.
The IRGC statement named five other officials who were killed: Hossein Aman Elahi, Mehdi Jalalati, Mohsen Sedaghat, Ali Aghababaee, and Ali Salehi Roozbahani.
No, I meant when Iran launched missiles, similar to today, as retaliation for the above on April 13.
I remember hearing that Israel would retaliate back, but don't remember seeing any retaliation. However, now looking specifically for it, it looks like they did on April 18, but meh, it seemed pretty minor.
I think the point that others are making, and I seem to agree with, is that these air strikes from Iran look like nothing but saying that hey, we did something, and that's enough. More like just saving face.

Biden told Netanyahu on a call to “take the win,” though the Israeli prime minister pushed back. “You don’t need to make another move. Do nothing,” Biden said.
In the end, Israel launched a limited, calibrated strike against Iran, which Biden considered a win.
“I know he’s going to do something but the way I limit it is tell him to ‘Do nothing,” Biden told his advisers, according to Woodward.
But Bidens frustration with Netanyahu boiled over as the war continued to escalate.
“He’s a fucking liar,” Biden said privately of Netanyahu, after Israel went into Rafah, Woodward writes.
“Bibi, what the fuck?” Biden yelled at Netanyahu in July after an Israeli airstrike killed a top Hezbollah military commander and three civilians in Beirut, according to Woodward.
“You know the perception of Israel around the world increasingly is that you’re a rogue state, a rogue actor,” Biden said to Netanyahu.
Netanyahu responded that the target was “one of the leading terrorists.”
“We saw an opportunity and took it,” Netanyahu said. “The harder you hit, the more successful you’re going to be in the negotiation.”

Some of that stuff seems so out of this world I question if it was all dreamt up. But at the same time it seems like a super interesting read.
In their decision, the ICC judges said there were reasonable grounds to believe Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant were criminally responsible for acts including murder, persecution and starvation as a weapon of war as part of a "widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population of Gaza".
Netanyahu's office said the ICC decision was "antisemitic"

Welp ... it's over ... presumably. Ceasefire deal, remaining hostages are to be released. Wonder what the politics behind it is.
Some reporting that Trump wanted this to end before he takes over and if not, shit will happen. But I thought Israel and Trump are best buds and he would lean on Israel's side.
Or, is it that Biden wanted to go down with the credit for negotiating this?

I don't think it's over. Israel will violate the ceasefire deal within hours most likely. They already did on the last temporary ceasefire multiple times

My guess is -- with Trump being best buds with Isreal / Netanyahu, Hamas leaders (or whatever remains of them) finally figured it wasn't in their best interest to keep fighting.
If I am understanding things correctly, Hamas leadership as well as their general capabilities have already taken a huge beating. They are in no real shape to put up a fight in Gaza anymore. Had they continued to keep resisting, the only upside is that Israel will continue to pound civilian infrastructure in Gaza, and continue to earn international condemnation for committing war crimes and other humanitarian catatrophes. But Israel obviously doesn't give a damn about any of that, and the international community aren't putting much meaningful weight or pressure towards Israel to stop anyway.
For Israel, their focus is no longer in Gaza anymore. So wrapping things up in Gaza would allow them to focus on their next target better (Hezbollah / Lebanon / Iran). Netanyahu can also take credit for finally bringing the hostages home, although I tend to believe that a lot of the hostages that have not been returned are either already dead, or their whereabouts aren't even known by the remaining Hamas leadership.
So it is a big win for Israel and Netanyahu, but they don't really care all that much whether they are wrapping things up now, or in 6 months.

Ceasefire deal reached. Israel celebrates by killing more civilians since it doesn't start until Sunday.
"I might not be able to blow people up for a while so just getting it all out of my system" Netanyahu probably.
Someone needs dismember this guy while he is still alive.

So they abducted 4 random women soldiers and held them for only a year, why did they only release 4? Did the rest of them die?
The soldiers — Karina Ariev, Daniela Gilboa, Naama Levy, all aged 20, and Liri Albag, 19 — were all stationed at an observation post on the edge of Gaza and abducted by Hamas fighters who overran their base during the attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
They shouldn't have released these, they sound like real terrorist.
Hamas said the 200 Palestinians who were part of the exchange include members of Islamic Jihad, Hamas, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), some serving life sentences. Egyptian state-run TV reported that Israel released about 70 of the Palestinians into Egypt.
If anyone’s watched the mini series on the Indian plane that was hijacked from Nepal and ultimately the terrorists got what they demanded in the release of 4 Pakistani terrorists to release the civilians, when you release the worst of the worst in exchanges like this it never works out and ultimately it’s a moral dilemma
The 4 terrorists released during that air India thing went on to kill like 30,000+ people and one was one of the main architects or passengers during 9/11 lol..

Because Israel randomly detains Palestinian citizens without charge, including children, it costs a lot to hold so many random people and it looks good in the media when they release 100s for just a few of their own (pretending they value their own people)
And they don't really lose their number of captives because they release a couple hundred to Gaza but kidnap 100 more in the west bank
