2024 Blue Jays Sorry MG1 but had to make a new thread since rumors are flying around that Shohei Ohtani is flying a PJ from LA to YYC to sign with the Blue Jays today. If this actually happens is this the biggest signing in Canadian sports history? All I know is this is going to be massive and I so hope he signs with the Jays. |

Ohtani could announce his decision as early as today: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b6c93a6dda.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
It's insane that it's even gotten this close. After last season I said that Rogers should do everything they could to sign him but I didn't think it was actually even a remote possibility. Hopefully he's not just using them for leverage for the Dodgers but if he signs I think it might possibly be the biggest signing in Canadian Sports history. |
I'd love to see Ohtani sign with the BJs. It just shows we can still land these big name talents in sports here in Canada. It's sad this doesn't translate into the NBA, those guys just don't want to play up here. |
It probably helps with him being from Japan he doesn't have the same desire to stay in the states as most US born players seem to have. Gotta be hard leaving West Coast California to move to Toronto though lol that's probably the biggest sacrifice. |

Hopefully it happens. I already have a LA Angels Ohtani bobblehead and Funko Pop. He’d look awesome in a Jays uniform. I wAnder if his injury has healed properly. I’ve been hoping he’d come up to Canada since last season when rumours were flying around the league. Glad NY didn’t get him. Oh yeah, IN on first page! |
Just realized, he’ll be on the same team as his high school buddy, Kikuchi. Jays already have a translator, lol. Could that have been one of the factors? Being reunited with his former high school teammate. Not even sure if they were close. |
He won't be pitching until 2026 but at least the injury doesn't effect his hitting. |

Full of surprises, you are. |
This isn’t a McLyin’ thread is it? Jbol. |
https://www.si.com/mlb/angels/news/s...20for%20Ohtani. Looks promising. A team like that……………….. in a good way. |

Of course he didn’t sign with the BJ’s lol.. given the circumstances why would you ever play in Canada when you’re a player of his stature. The marketing opportunities alone are reason enough to sign with the big American teams |
Wow Dodgers really opened up the pocketbook for this one lol, I thought maybe in the 600 mil range but as suspected he probably used the Blue Jays to leverage that extra hundred mil |
Knew it was too good to be true. LA has a large Japanese community there. |
We'll always have that couple hours of excitement based off a fake rumor though. |
i can only imagine that someone as popular as him would want to play in a premier city. nobody wants to play their whole career in a city that has less to offer if they can pick anywhere. i'd for sure want to play for the yankees or dodgers if i was able to pick anywhere |
