BMW should have released that car - at least in some edition on style 359's. It looks absolutely fantastic.

EDIT: super low mileage example - I'll bet this is the car I drove last spring in surrey that had ~9000 kms on it. Almost bought it.

Agree on the no-tint.

Last time I was at area 27, a guy with an M2 (N55) was telling me he heat soaked after two laps at 30C. This guy also wore both his inertial belt, and a poorly installed 4 point belt.
So I'm guessing he either has some stupid tune with no extra cooling, or was BSing for some reason.

Is that right or do those suffer from heat soak that badly?

Agreed! The 359 is a much better design than the 437. If only that listing came out a few weeks earlier before I bought my car.

I haven't read anything on heat soak yet but I wouldn't be surprised if he had an aggressive off the shelf tune.

When you guys talk about heat soak, do you just mean enough to take the edge off of power figures, or actual heat soak where you need to take some cooldown laps and maybe get a CEL / drive mode error

When I use the term

Beginning to heat soak -> power drops off a bit

Actual heat soak -> cooldown laps & CEL (CTR's case is emissions system + Rev Match disabled)

The goal is to not hit CEL so as soon as I feel heat soak start I go from 2 or 3 hot : 1 cool, to 2 hot : 2 cool

Most of the turbo BMWs have enough cooling for a trackday, but once you start upping the power heat rejection is inadequate, especially if you are tracking in 30C+ weather.

One of the guys who did BM3 locally said, if you want to track the car, stay stock. The car won't last the 20 minutes if you are aggressive.

TBF, most modern turbo cars can't even keep up with heat rejection stock on track, so BMW being able to hold it together for 20 minutes is a feat in itself.

Did the e90 or e46 have this problem ?!

I honestly rather deal with rod bearings on the e90 and subframe issues on the e46 than modern day engines.

46 - exploding cooling bits. Once replaced it should be fine.

9X - e-WP failure iirc.

Especially if the repair is a one and done fix to a known issue. Just go into the purchase planning to do it right away and you don't have to think about it again.

The problem is more of a turbo problem. On a NA car the hot exhaust comes out and the goal is to get rid of it as soon as possible. On a turbo, the hot exhaust gets circulated around the engine bay for a bit so everything gets nice and toasty, and you pressurize the intake air, which adds even more heat.
