Thank you gents. I appreciate the sentiments especially since most of you guys are pet owners and can directly relate.
It’s 1:24am and I can’t even sleep. Feels like the house is very quiet without him. We left on all the lights in the house so he can find his way back home….
I noticed at the vet that his initial eye infection was on the same side of his bad molar tooth. Every year, we takes the dogs for an anesthesia-free dental cleaning clinic but in hindsight we should have done it twice if not 3 times a year. Since he’s a chihuahua it’s next to impossible to brush his teeth (plus it’s nippy if you try it) so we should have done that better.
Just a heads up for you fellow doggo owners. Oral care for our little friends is vital. I’m going to take this lesson and focus more on my remaining girl. She’s also very challenging to do oral care on but I’ll try for her sake.

Otoh, they lived that much happier a life just spending time with their folks. Not fighting and stressing over yet more hated toothbrushing and dentistry .
I'm really sorry for your loss. I'm glad they spent their life with a family who had given them so much love.

RIP to the little guy. pets are so constant. always there when they hear you awake, ready for their food when they hear familiar noises like the can opening or bowls being touched, there to greet you or hang out with you on the sofa at night, etc... nothing more reliable than your pet. their routine makes your routine and losing your pet just changes everything. sorry hobz

RIP to your little buddy, its such a hard thing to deal with. In a way its harder then dealing with a human since you can't talk to them and they give you that look and you want to help so much but there is nothing you can do. |

If you can muster the will and/or energy to do it, go hit the gym or some sort of sports / exercise routine that will push yourself hard. Physical exertion at times like this can really take your mind off things, and the endorphin release afterwards is super helpful too.
Would not recommend escort banging for now, even though that counts as physical exertion, and probably leads to endorphin releases (and more) as well.
(And I apologize in advance for my poor attempt at humour.)

I agree with the purchase of another Maserati. Get the worst one possible and that will definitely get his mind off of things.

Retail therapy isn’t gonna do it…
While my pup was getting cremated today, I had to wait around in Fort Langley for 3 hours and I couldn’t find anything I like. Hell I even found this Costco monopoly set that was on sale (39.99) and I didn’t buy it.
On the way back, I placed his little urn on his doggie seat and my other one jumped over and wanted to sit next to her brother….
I could barely drive home… bawling my eyes out

I'm sorry that you're going through this. Reading your experience makes me dread the day when I have to go through the same motions with my parents' dog.

man... RIP.... what a way to get back on to RS.... fuck you hobz!
It is never easy... but me + wife are stupid..... we both lost a dog each before getting together, her shih tzu got to 14! my pom only got to 11! And we swore off on doggo ownership...
And yet, when daughter was born, we are like... she needs a guardian...annndddd now we got Timi.... and since our seller lied to us (jokin).. and he got to 70+ LBs... a bit too big for the fam fam (both my kids + wife said you cant hug him to sleep_....
And now we are 1 year into a corgi ownership (they get big too, I also didn't realize fook me)
I can't imagine so I wont//// I hope the day never comes~

Our little guy is probably due for his big day by the end of the year too.
10 years here in Canada, unknown amount of years in Taiwan. Just last year he was blazing it up Cypress trails. Your little guy lived an amazing life, I'm sure. |

Its tough man. We lost monty about 2 years ago to cancer. It was tough to figure out when was the time to let go.
The advice I got from my vet was it hurts like crazy to be early, but nothing hurts more than waiting too long. Fucking guy beat 2 cancers and then the third was liver cancer. Having to do it was the worst day of my life, but they are worth the pain for all they give through their life.

Logged in just to send my condolences you guys, badhobz and spy balloon.
I can't even imagine the pain right now. I dread the day it comes time for us to say goodbye to our little rescue mutt as well. Time helps heal, take solace in the fact that you loved each other dearly and you gave him the absolute best life possible.

Thank you guys for the kind words and sentiments. I know a lot of you have gone through similar circumstances and know the pain of losing a loved one.
Spy balloon asked me today why I bother posting this on RS to strangers. I said first of all they are not strangers. They are like family.
Posting this helps me heal as these guys know what Im going through. It’s weird how we share a mutual love of cars but through this passion, and the daily inane babbling on these forums, you develop a close bond with the peeps on here. |

It sucks that everyone suffers, but hearing about someone suffering the same situation before you, and coming out the other side ok. Different, but ok, can help offer some strength. Dogs are something else. We probably spend more time with them than literally pretty much anyone in our lives. It's such a huge upset to the balance of our lives when they go.

It hurts so much losing a dog, but with that being said, when I hear people say they will never get another one because it hurts too much losing them, I really think if you're a responsible pet owner you should reconsider. Not only are you robbing yourself of years of good times and memories, but with so many shitty pet owners out there you're really helping out a dog that could otherwise end up in a bad situation by giving them a good home.
At the end of the day the good times more than make up for the inevitable crushing blow you'll feel when their time comes.

I miss my boys dearly every day. It hurts a lot initially, but I do find myself smiling when I think of all the funny and heart warming things they did over the years. I'm always telling them how much I miss them when they come to mind and hope that they hear my words/thoughts.
Even if it's cheesy, the quote from Wandavision is very true "what is grief if not love persevering?". Looking forward to the day where I can finally have space and time for a dog again. They bring so much joy and unconditional love to our lives and we add just as much to theirs too.
