| So my dog is dying….
My little fuzzy friend is dying. He’s 10 years old and about two years ago he developed a tumour on his thyroid. We took him to boundary bay vet and got it removed but it’s back again.
He has a heart problem (leaky valve) along with collapsing trachea. Suffice to say he’s not well. He’s held up so far by medical science but I think we are getting close to the end of what can be done.
For the last two months he’s battled an eye infection, nasal infection and now he looks like he’s struggling to breath. The tumour has grown big enough that it’s causing his problems for eating and breathing.
We are thinking of putting him down but I’m having a hard time letting go… I wanna keep fighting it but I know at some point it’s not fair to him anymore to prolong his suffering. He had a good life…. Nay probably the best life of all dogs that I know.
Wife’s looking into getting somebody to come into the house to put him to sleep but we are both struggling.
If you have fuzzies. Please give them a hug and enjoy their company.

Sorry to hear.
At 10 years, dogs have lived a long life. He will be try his best to try and stay with you too despite his own suffering. You're right to take the selfless approach and go with a painless departure. Stay strong!

My parents just put down our 13 year old Lab/Pyranese cross 2 weeks ago. She was by far the best dog we ever had of 4 dogs growing up
I think the main thing is while it sucks for you the owner, if the dog is in pain or simply doesn’t have the quality of life they are used to, you can get solace in the fact they won’t be in pain any more
The worst thing are owners who prop up a dogs life that should probably be put down only for their personal satisfaction

This imo is the worst part of pet ownership.
We had a cat that we loved dearly. He's with us all the time when we are at home. When I work on the computer, he'd rest on my leg. At night, he always sleeps with us.
When he passed away of a urinary tract infection+liver disease... it was so hard on us. It's like having your child die on you.
It hit so hard that even though we still had another cat alongside him, it was never really the same as the 2 used to play together and care for each other when we are busy. And when our last cat passed away at 20yrs old (yes, 20), it was all over again.
Then my wife just decided that we aren't going to have more pets. It's just too hard on our hearts.
Just cherish every last second with him hob. I'm sure he's got an amazing life with you guys.

I'm sorry to learn about this - he's fortunate to have you and Spy Balloon as caretakers during his time here. I can only imagine how much he was pampered...
Please take care of yourself as you go through this.

yeah im grilling him some rib steak and lobster today. every day he's eating like a king, I figure if he's gonna go out, he'll go out with a bang. He still has some appetite, just not like before.
Even booking in these death doctors take a while, they are talking like 2-3 weeks, plus a private ceremony for the ashes is also 2-3 weeks out. Thats a lucrative business right there.
Also gonna take him to watch Beetlejuice at the drive in theater tonight... that place is closing down (sept is the last month apparently) and we've never experienced that before. Hopefully he'll like it.

Good pet owner hobz, sorry to hear that. Yea it's tough.
On a side note, would you consider cloning your pet? I was jk with my GF that you can taxidermy the dog or turn him into a carpet.

after my pets all go we want some freedom again, but we think we would foster mama cats and their kittens whenever we have the desire to have pets for a while.

Like you & Hehe, I'm never going to own another pet because I don't want to go through that experience again.
Then you have others that lose a family pet, spend some time to recover, then get a new pet because they really want that furry companion. Nothing wrong with that, but I can't do it!

I already told my wife I am not getting another pet. I cannot handle the emotional trauma.

We had to put our Frenchie down a few years ago after a battle with cancer and I cried more than my wife when we had to go to the vet to put her down, I still remember the looks that I got from the people that worked there like "is this guy gonna be alright?" lol
I still miss that dog it never gets easier losing a pet that's for sure.

The worst thing are owners who prop up a dogs life that should probably be put down only for their personal satisfaction | Yeah they don't really have any way to understand why they're in pain and past a certain point it affects them so much that they're not enjoying much of anything the way they did before. When my inlaws family lab was sick she could barely sleep from the pain and was so out of it she barely reacted to anything. Even though she wasn't my dog I was pretty attached to her since I'd spent enough time with her in the last 8 years of her life to end up being her favourite person. I was the same as MarkyMark at the vet but knowing she wasn't suffering anymore and that we'd given her a great life when she was healthy helped.

Nothing more painful than putting down a dog.
We had to put down our 10 year old mini shunauzer 7 years ago because she suffered a catastrophic stroke. After recovering from it she was pretty much paralyzed and remained motionless. Mentally she was there but physically was full of pain.
It was tough bringing her to the vet to be put down.
We have another dog, Pomeranian mixed with Maltese, she's already 9.5 years old. So far everything is good with her.
Then wife decided to get another dog, an overly compassionate Bichon, she's about 2.5 years old. I was against this idea because I don't want to go through with the emotional roller coaster again
Don't have any recent pictures of the Pom mix, but here she is during her first year

Monty passed today. 2:54pm. He wasn’t in any pain, he looked like he could finally rest.
Rest in peace my little man.
I’m a fucking wreck so is spy balloon. We took him to the beach on Friday, and before he passed today, to all his favourite parks in Richmond to smell and see it. I think he had a good day.
It’s Sunday…. Maybe he’ll resurrect just like Jebus….

Sorry for your loss, our fur babies are so damn precious. Only other pet owners will truly understand. Of my 4 boys, 3 have passed by now. It hurts each time but I've always liked the way some people look at it: Love that next dog. There's so many who need and deserve a loving home. Your dog would be happy to know that the love in your heart for them can go on to the next. Just typing that makes me tear up but reminds me that I can love again. They stay with you forever, as they should. Just remember the good times and it becomes easier to deal with.
