I love the Durangos. It's been on the market for what? 10 years now? There's not much like it. I actually love most Dodge products, but can't stand to own one.

I remember looking at Charger SRT8 back in the day. Those things were cheap. 50k for a V8 whereas the Fiat 500 sitting a few cars away was asking for 20k.

I like them too... altho whenever I see them in Calgary they're constantly doing pulls on Crowchild with exhaust blathering away and generally being douchebags

Good to know a few lowside67's are amongst their ownership group lol

Those are usually V6's.... It's always the V6 Chargers and Durangos and Mustangs with the loudest exhausts

Mine has a loud exhaust that my neighbors have jokingly complained about, true story. But it's factory... I actually kind of love how dumb it is.

Is the Durango platform shared across the Stellantis world i.e. Alfa Romeo etc, or is it unique to Dodge?

I believe it's a holdover from the Daimler days and is loosely related to the ML/GL from that era when these were first introduced (hence AstulzerRZD's reference).

It's an extended current GC, which itself was a modified version of the last gen GC, which was a modified version of the E class.

If you let a Dodge enthusiast hear us call it a E class they'll foam at the mouth. Something about really only the rear suspension was similar and the frame was not interchangable blah blah blah

Mine is a twin to this. It's not the best vehicle in the world, but for the money, it goes pretty good, makes a good noise, has a good stereo. I'm reasonably happy with it.

V8 Durangos seem like silly fun. Every time I see a V8 one I imagine some dad decided this was his gateway to still feel alive versus having to drive a Highlander or Pilot. I imagine the percentage of women who drive a V8 one is somewhere between 0 and 1%.

I've been loosely considering upgrading to an SRT 6.4 version to truly solidify my place as a dinosaur oil burning dumbass supporting Stellantis. It is hard to not feel like an idiot paying $90k+ for a Dodge though. But then I look at other options and they all kind of feel lame. I wanted a Defender for the longest time and I took a short test drive and couldn't get excited at all about it.

The only other way is probably a X7 M50 or M60 or a GLS and you are looking well north of 100k.

Escalades and Navis are cool as well. But none of those options are really similar to the Durango.

I was going to suggest you skip right to the Hellcat but then I looked up the price. $170k!!!

I just bought a 3rd gen Highlander, it's true. This vehicle makes me feel deader inside than I could've imagined :crybaby:

It's even burgundy (the color of misery), and hybrid.

TBH, I actually messaged about one. But for towing it is objectively worse, it doesn't sound as nice, and I just cant see the value for the extra money. I think the SRT 6.4 would be most of the things I love about my current one but not too much worse.

if you wanna go super stupid, try grand wagoneer. I haven't seen a single one anywhere.

Looks pretty posh inside, but I don't know a single thing about it other than its like 160k.

Think you can find those at the airport Budget / Avis lots. Along with a Polestar 1

underscore 01-07-2025 04:35 PM

^ my coworker had one as a rental and it wouldn't stop beeping for no reason. A 10 minute drive and it beeped 3 times, zero messages on the dash telling you why.

Sounds like your coworker should wear their seatbelt.

how's hemi gc compared to hemi durango?

AstulzerRZD 01-08-2025 09:50 AM

Last gen GC second row seat is really uncomfortable, exhaust is quieter, otherwise it’s the same car.

New gen only got the HEMI in the L for a couple years.

Large SUV wise, Cadillac drives best with Magneride but with the worst engine.

Wagoneer has the best engine but drives most boaty; also has bad driver assist.
Also crazy problematic and terrible quality compared to Durango/Grand Cherokee.

twitchyzero 01-08-2025 06:23 PM

wagoneer uses the hurricane i6tt? it's sucking up plastic thermostat then you have to remove the cab before engine swap, ouch

Autotrader claims this Audi RS6 Avant is 18k overpriced. If you can get one of these for under 100K this would make a killer road trip car.

Gen 5 Ram 1500. Reliable HEMI, not bad on gas (12.5L/100km), amazing ride with air suspension, adaptive cruise, space for everything, tows a good 10k#, great interior quality with large screen, looks mean but fits in. All for around $40k nowadays.
