son of a bitch, they keep doing that stupid ass soul red. STOP IT WITH THE SOUL RED MAZDA you fucks!!! i want to take off my ratrolla wrap eventually.

RabidRat 07-10-2025 11:27 AM

Hey it's nice! It's like a cross between a Toyota and a BMW.

Fixes my issue with the previous generation: the sides looked like big slabs and looked cheap. They've now added some creases to break things up.

Too bad they lost the iDrive and physical controls :(. That's a sad step in the wrong direction.

edit: it really bugs me that the color of the car in the infotainment doesn't match the paint color. how hard could it be?!

roastpuff 07-10-2025 11:28 AM

Looks nice but bye bye physical HVAC controls :(

W: Finally the physical control and dial circle jerkers can STFU!

L:
- No turbo or hybrid
- 2.5L only and that thing is slow/loud
- Touchpad controls on steering wheel

bcrdukes 07-10-2025 11:40 AM

Escalade is better, right?

JDMDreams 07-10-2025 12:17 PM

An electrified alternative is also coming, as CX-5 will debut a new hybrid powertrain to the Mazda family in 2027. The new SkyActiv-Z engine will feature Mazda Hybrid System technology to offer a higher level of performance and fuel efficiency along with the engaging drive that our customers expect.
9 years since the 2nd gen and they couldn't release the hybrid at the same time.

Also:
Suspension (front/rear) MacPherson strut/multi-link

Dude zoom zoom is dead. Mazda is no longer the zoom zoom Japanese car company (Miata aside)

EvoFire 07-10-2025 12:33 PM

I don't understand why this is being made so they can compete with themselves. I can only imagine because the CX50 is selling poorly and it was the wrong direction so they are using this car to capture that error.

zoom zoom and kodo are both dead, they sold their soul to be mainstream, but now why would someone who wanted mainstream choose this over the CRV?

CX-5 outsells the 50 by 2x, so they can't kill it. One's got a rugged look, while the other looks more sleek. CnD even got an article on it lol - https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a6...ons-explained/

100 percent. -bad decision to put MAZDA on the steering wheel instead of keeping the logo.

They are copying Lexus' design language for the 2026 ES hahaha.

L E X U S on that car's steering wheel. LUL

Badhobz 07-10-2025 01:09 PM

Yes Lexus looks stupid doing that too. Way to copy Porsche

bcrdukes 07-10-2025 01:10 PM

Did Toyota buy Mazda?

Or did Porsche buy Toyota?

What?

noclue 07-10-2025 02:03 PM

I think the CX-5 looks nice compared to CR-V and RAV4? Not having a volume knob is annoying but HVAC controls just leave it in auto seems to work 90% of the year.

supafamous 07-10-2025 02:15 PM

If they didn't say it you'd never know it was 4.5" longer than the current car. Exterior wise I think they did a really nice job with the outside (and Soul Red is such a nice red). Don't love that the HVAC controls are in the touch screen but I can live with it.

Bit puzzled that the hybrid won't show up till 2027 yet they launch this anyways (and it won't show up till Spring 2026) - not like the current one is not selling well.

Overall, this looks like a winner once the hybrid shows up (and if the hybrid is good).

Aside: I'm completely baffled at how Mazda spends their R&D dollars on so many powertrains. It's nuts and a huge waste. A turbo six, a compression ignition gas engine, a PHEV, a silly EV (MX-30), a Toyota hybrid, a soon to be new Skyactiv-Z engine, and exploration on rotaries that never ends all on top of their Skyactiv-G engines. There's no way that's good spending.

It's like daddy toyota is footing the bill for R&D

Coming to a theatre near you: Badhobz funeral

JDMDreams 07-10-2025 03:07 PM

All that money and they still use a na 2.5 from like 20 years ago? It must drink like a pig.

EvoFire 07-10-2025 04:07 PM

The CX5 sells cause it's cheap, 40k well kitted out the door is pretty amazing.

There's not a ton of CX50 on the road, and the dealers are practically drowning in them.

The 2.5 is actually decent on fuel, most of the the non turbo skyactiv engines are pretty good, just slow, and don't try to go past 120. The turbos are a bit of a pig.
