Electric motor does most of the work, gas just recharges it, so torque stays flat and predictable.
I can't believe they're packaging memes from years ago into an actual powertrain... gas or diesel generator charging your battery as you go down the road.

That's basically what the Volt was. The Honda sounds almost identical in execution where the EV motor drives most of the time, but under certain load conditions the engine has a direct drive to the wheels because it's more efficient that way.

Like there are ways to fix drone but counting on Hyundai to fixing the downshift behaviour, torque cut and turbo lag? That’s like trying to part the Red Sea…

Drivetrain isn't a strong suite with Hyundai. They are definitely more of a if it's good enough then it's fine. Their marketing goal is to wow you with out there designs and better looking interiors for the same money. I don't think I'd say they are better in quality though.

On the highway if you are using the gas engine, the same issues you complain about would be present on a regular gas car, and when I throw it in sport mode and use the engine, it's fine.

I still think it's calibration when it's something that we've been doing for 40 years before hybridization was so common.
The Jeep 4XE 2.0T & ZF8 combo was mostly fine.

Hyundai undersizes the motors. Sonata has 50hp compared to like 100+ in Camry. Palisade has 70hp compared to 120 in X5.
