Curious how your friend liked/disliked the AMG GT. That's a car I'd like to explore but haven't had the time to explore into Mercedes category yet.
He said the NDs and the Cayman were more fun than the AMG GT .

I personally felt like his AMG GT was crazy good fun for acceleration and sound, but felt numb vs a 911 where everything is so immediately intuitive and direct. Even down to the detail of visibility out the greenhouse.

Dang. Email from a VW service department to ask if I needed servicing for my [long gone] '08 GTI.

That's amazing that they would think a 19 year old GTI would still be on the road. Especially given they'd already had to replace the motor once under CPO warranty.

Since we are car shopping, we are around BMW dealerships quite a lot. I went to pay a visit to my usual service advisor. While he says it's still quite busy, the waiting room and the service area outside says otherwise.

BMW is kinda bad metric as service is free for 3 years and most people lease. Porsche/MB will probably be a better data if people are deferring pricy services.

I got a call from Toyota to book an appointment for an oil change during winter break for the rolla cross. They said they are booking 2months out cause they are that busy. I chuckled and said must be because of all the turbskies v6. He said jokes on you, looks like u have one. I was like nah I got rid of that long ago.

2 months out for an oil change is wild.

Good time to be any kind of mechanic shop, they are always busy.
The future of mechanical systems will keep alot of trades employed forever, what useto be a 3hr job is turning into 1-2 days thanks to "efficiency", "energy/fuel savings" and "technology"

I've heard of Porsche dealerships booking service appointments 2+ months ahead in the past, but that was before Porsche Center Richmond's service department became available.

My buddy who worked at OpenRoad Lexus as a service assistant manager for 18 years, moved to Porsche last year. Quit in less than 9 months.

That's how much he hated Porsche customers and dealing with their lousy ev's. Considering he was a huge Porsche fan before, and even had a Macan on lease (hoping to get a 911 eventually), now he wouldn't touch that brand with a 10-foot pole.

Isnt it a good thing for a service manager for cars to break frequently? Job security and revenue etc

I think the negative effect is that of employee experience, as highlighted by Badhobz's service advisor. To go from an 18-year steady career to a departure at another brand in less than a year is scary.

Porsche owners are something else.

Nah he didn’t care about that. He just wanted to do his job and do it well. But the problem was at Lexus they started to force these guys to upsell services that customers might or might not need. The East Indian boss who is running that place is running it into the ground apparently.

If they don’t upsell, they will get fired. It’s almost like in car sales now.
He didn’t like that, went to Porsche and found all the customers were total cunts and the cars were rolling shit boxes that always required a ton of work. Then these cunty ass customers comes to complain to him endlessly about how they paid 100k+ and blah blah blah expecting white glove treatment and repairs.

He had it.

Vs me when I go see him at Lexus.

Hey lun yeung (dick face) you wanna go have lunch ? Okay let’s go

The cars almost never break, so not much to do besides basic shit

My friend at Richmond Porsche seems to be happy? He's not going anywhere and he's waiting for me to hop on the beetle bandwagon. The Macan and Cayenne can get pretty pricy if there are problems. The problem with those two are because they are Audis.

As with any German cars, it's a lottery ticket, the question is how lucky you are with that lottery ticket. It's not much different from buying American. Cunty people aside, seems like the beetles are relatively reliable in the medium term unless the owner cheaps out and gets questionable service done. Long term though you can't get away from bore scoring because physics.

beetles yes, he also said the beetles werent really the problem (besides borescore, carbon buildup and infotainment/eletrical trash along with plasticky squeeks and rattles because of course it rattles), it was the other trash cans. Specifically, the EV ones.

EV macan
Taycan
anything with a hybrid battery too.

The people that buy a used Macan @65k and expect white glove treatment. Bro you bought a 5 year old Audi designed 15 years ago.

Are you referring to the dealerships? My understanding is most of them are corporate owned with a few that are franchised (North Van and I think Langley?)

To be fair, they need to make sacrifices somewhere to be able to afford their F1 program.

While I'll agree I am a cunt, I love my Taycan. Best car I've owned by far. Haven't heard a rattle yet, and the air suspension is awesome.

I did the seat cushion recall a few weeks ago and had an electric Macan. It was fine too, not on the same level as the Taycan but a nice place to be.

My problem is that I spent enough time looking at the Gt4 and the Boxer GTS they had on display that $250k seemed like not a bad deal.
