I have mixed feelings with them reducing the shot accuracy. My guys are missing a lot of guaranteed goals now because they always miss the net. My shot totals went down from an average 20-25 to 15 because they miss the net a lot more now.

However, it's definitely keeping the games closer now.

If Vision Control is pressed, you do not throw a hit when in front of the attacking net. This helps with rebound shots.

All of the "old" ways to score goals still work, the one that you have to really work on is the wrist shot over the goalies shoulder when you're cutting into the lane, don't hold the control stick all the way :thumbsup:

Anyone here on the 360 want to play a "sim" style game? I actually played a guy last night that plays a real style hockey where we dump the puck during PK, etc. Ended up adding eachother and played a few more games due to this.

I was playing this other guy and it went to shootout and all he did was that stupid skating backwards cheap shot..so what I did was I kept doing the "Deke" move and kept scoring. He finally hit the post and I scored.. boyyyy was he pissed saying I WAS the one cheating...

wrap around = press your left analog towards the net when your coming around from the back and before you reach the post

Is there a bug in the game that can't be stopped? Because the only move i'd consider cheap is leaving the game before it's over.

I've played a lot of games online, and, sure you always get the guys that try to skate across the crease, or just close their eyes and take a slapper every chance they get, but i don't consider that "cheap". To me, a goal is a goal If you see them doing the same move over and over again, then you have nobody to blame but yourself for allowing them to do it every time. I mean...if the play works for them, why would they stop doing it? They are playing to win, too!

Bottom line: Adapt your play instead of crying fowl play.

exactly. i just played a guy who was ranked 650, was up 4-1 when he d/c in the middle of the third. he tried to do the same side of the net slapshots, wraparound, and spin and make the goalie do down shots all the time. just adapt how you play defense and play more patient. don't use the stick lift to much and use poke check more.
he looked confused when he was on defense cuz i always did different things and scored my goals differently each time. don't play too predictably.

i played one guy a few games ago that beat me 6-4. he had 8 shots and every shot was the same shot.


i was talking to a guy i work with about the BAP mode and he said if his player doesnt score a goal and his team win, he will quit the game and start over. he plays on rookie dificulty and said his player had 100 goals and like 20 assists in his first season and his team only lost 2 or 3 games. whats the point of playing that way? what are you trying to prove? at least make it somewhat realistic.

do you also notice that I don't chase people when they're behind the net ? alot of people online like doing that stupid behind the net to side goal where the goalie goes down. One game I was playing against one of those lamers the guy went back behind the net and i just stood there and he didnt move his guy for a good few minutes because he didnt know how to score any other way :haha: Majority of my goals are one timers and slot shots if I have room. I'll do that behind the goal to side move if the players allows me but that wont be my main focus like 99% of the people online.

Here's a tip that should help everyone.

If you play against people who like to skate around the boards/slot, make sure you are NEVER a defensive player. Play D with a forward instead. The computer defense works pretty well at limiting chances although they do get fooled every so often, e.g. offensive player keeps skating in a circle, but more often times than not, you should be there to stop that chance if you're playing positionally sound. The only time I would recommend actually playing D is on an odd man rush, if the puck carrier is driving to the net, or you know they're gonna do a one-timer. Once the other team is fully in your defensive zone, I highly recommend you play D as a forward.

You also have to make sure you stop chances from the blue line. I've noticed if the D is all collapsed to the net and someone from the blue line goes to the high slot for a shot, the D often just stands there. As well, please be sure to be in the passing lanes. If you see a player in the corner boards, most people like to pass there, so stand between that and the puck carrier (they usually pass to the boards from around the faceoff circle/blue line.

Hope this helps most of you guys out. This is how I play D and my average goals against is 1.15. (ranked 120 on X360)

i went on an 11 game win streak and won 13 of 15 and then imediately lost 8 in a row and 10 of 13 and i cant seem to win anything unless i get lucky!

and im not even ranked either. and i think i play pretty good.

my record is roughly 70/45/15 now (give or take a few)

I think once I got all 100% achievements, I'll try to get into the top 100 shootout. I'm currently ranked 88 for 1v1, but the only way to win once you start playing high ranked players is to cheese since that's what they do, so I've stopped playing that.

Exploit fixes:

-Prevent players from entering games with attributes that are raised beyond the level they can reach with the card they are entitled to have. Players who have elevated their attributes this way should reset their character by changing the type and reassigning their points.
-Limit the size of human goalies in OTP/EASHL games to 6'4" (NOTE: it will still allow them to be set larger, but the actual height in game will not go above the new limit).
-Fixed some problems that could cause the game to hang or go out of sync when pausing.
- Prevent use of LB to get up instantly after being knocked over.
-Reduce accuracy of shooting while using vision control to skate backwards.
-Prevent high, accurate slap shots from in close to the net.

Other changes:

-Reduced the ease of beating the goalie on the short side.
-Decrease the tendency of the goalies to use a desperation save unnecessarily.
-Strict calling of interference, though you can still clear players directly in front of the net without getting called for interference.
-Added stick lift to Classic controls using LB+X(XBox) /L1+Square(PS3). It is also on R3 (press Right Stick).
-Fixed shot targeting using the Always Up control when skating down ice.
-Added new NHL rule to locate face- offs in the attacking zone to start a powerplay.
- Prevent CPU players from getting delay of game penalties frequently while clearing the puck from their zone.
- Prevent puck from being poke checked away from the goalie when he has it covered under his glove.
-Reduced the amount of time it takes to get control of the last man back, holding RT(Xbox)/R2(PS3)
-Reduced the amount of time it takes to get control of the goalie, holding LB+A(Xbox)/L1+X(PS3)
-Reduce the range of heights on randomly generated CPU players, including goalies.
-Eliminate the ability to accelerate and maintain high speed while stick lifting.
-More penalties for high sticking when stick lifts are done from behind the opponent.
-Made the colours of the OTP/EASHL indicators more distinct (yellow and orange).
-Made face-off outcomes slightly more random and slightly less dependent on attributes.
-Added assistance to prevent one-timer and shot attempts from leading to accidental hits and interference penalties.
-Goalie tuning to increase goal-scoring a bit to compensate for taking away the easy short-side high goals.
-Improve hit stat tracking to not count all of the small bumps in front of the net.
-Increased injuries caused by CPU teams.
-Prevent puck from being launched with very high speed following a hit.
-AI tuning for superstar. The Aggression slider now affects how intense the CPU team is on that difficulty level.

Some reason, since after the last update, my games have been really laggy. And its not like usual lag, but more of every other second the game skipping and then my players will speed up trying to catch up to the other persons hockey game.

Not sure if its my copy of the game, or if its what the update caused. It doesnt happen when I play offline, and no one else seems to have this problem online. This is for the 360 btw.

holding L2 for majority of shots as well. Assuming you're using the default controls (right analog = shoot), then the right analog does matter. The closer to exactly up or down you are w/ the right analog, the more accurate your shot.

Holding the left trigger/vision control while in front of the net will shoot the puck when you get it, without the your guy trying to crosscheck anybody.

If you don't hold it down and you're spamming your shoot without the puck, you're constant wailing at whoever's in front of you, causing you to get a penalty.

This really grinds my gears. Its so awkward passing with the right trigger. Worst of all, they have a 'customization' option for your buttons, but the damn option isnt selectable. Its like a bug or something. Just one big tease.

It's the weird wrist shot that usually goes in far side where it looks like the shooter is throwing the puck. And then there's also a wrap-around one, and there use to be a short-side slapshot one.

Here's the lineup I use for the Canucks

Sedin - Sundin - Sedin
Raymond - Kesler - Demitra
Burrows - Wellwood - Bernier
Hordichuk - Johnson - Pyatt

If you take a look at the centers, they're all extremely good at faceoffs. 91, 80, 87, 86, respectively from the first to fourth line. The first line although is slower than the second/third line, has the most skill/passing and should be used for shots in the slot, or for just working the puck around. Second line is one of the fastest lines in the game with Raymond and Kesler both having 91, 93 speed respectively. If you want, you could sub in Burrows on the second instead of Demitra who only has 85 compared to Burrows 88 speed, but Demitra's shot stats are significantly better. What I like about the second line is that because it's so fast, it's easy to get odd man rushes or a drive to the net (what my main focus is with the line). The third line is quite fast as well with Bernier's speed being the weakest link, but his shot specs are very good hovering around 80 average. And Pyatt although is about as fast as Bernier, Bernier has better stats so I demoted him to the fourth line. I rarely use the fourth line unless my other lines are tired, so it shouldn't matter too much.

The powerplay lineups shouldn't really matter much, it's pretty straightforward. But here's how I like to set up mine.

Sedin - Wellwood - Sedin
Ohlund - Salo

Kesler - Sundin - Demitra
Edler - Bieksa

It's best to have Sundin or Wellwood to take faceoffs since they're the top two in that department on the team. I have Sundin playing with Kesler and Demitra instead of the Sedins so when the PP ends, the top line won't be all tired. By default, Demitra is paired with Salo on one of the PP. I personally like him playing winger instead since I don't usually take shots from the point unless it's Salo or Bieksa.

Penalty kill-wise, the default pairing of Kesler/Burrows is fine. But I like putting Raymond with Johnson instead of Pyatt so if you do manage to get a breakaway, your player can actually get to the net in time. That's why I usually have at least one fast player on the PK for all teams since it's easy to get breakaways shorthanded for some reason. And for the three man PK, I put in Wellwood and Demitra. You can sub Sundin instead of Demitra, but I like Demitra's speed over Sundin's high faceoff rating.

So yeah, let me know what you guys think. This should help you guys out in games a bit, but depending on your playing style it might not.
