I have to say initially I wasn't too impressed with the game, but after multiple games on higher difficulty settings it gets really enjoyable especially with a group of friends.

Nothing like having someone accidentally set off a car alarm alerting the zombies.. and two of you get separated from the group making a mad dash for the safe room. Of course just as you're about to slam the door shut a hunter jumps out and you get pinned down/beaten to death while your buddies are on the street level desperately trying to fight off the zombies while reviving a down team member.

The key to surviving is to NOT have all 4 members shooting at the same time. The best way to do it is to have one person unload a clip and then have the next person start attacking while the other person is reloading. I've managed to pass expert subway probably two or three times out of 30 runs. One time my buddy threw a molatov to stop a wave of zombies flanking us from behind bursting out of the vents when a smoker grabbed him and dragged him into the flames killing him. While we were trying to rescue him after he respawned boom hunter pins down one of my other friends and a tank comes out of nowhere knocks me across the room into a crowd of zombies. All i learned is corners are your friend and the melee pushback has saved my ass more than once.

Tip: Hug a corner/wall, pistol whip nonstop. One hit kill basically, and it hits multiple zombies, i once killed 10 zombies, with one whip LOL. This is on advanced, works in expert too.

game came out a day early it seems :p. And I have to say its intense as hell.


I thought the first two stages were intense,


once u get out of the subways it just starts amping up in insanity from there. From rooftop zombie swarms to exploding gas stations and an epic wait for the elevator. Mercy hospital itself is insanely detailed.. really makes you feel like you're in a hospital after a zombie outbreak. Traversing the sewer under mercy hospital is suitable creepy with plenty of narrow passageways and passing in between septic tanks.

Then there's the rooftop fight.. wave after wave of zombies.. then a tank pipe bombs flying everywhere with people desperately trying to get in first aid between waves. Adrenaline filled action right there.

Melee may be useful but it definately isn't overpowered as some are claiming.. when the zombies start breaking down the flimsy under construction drywall. Or climbing the metal sheet roof you're trying to cross with zombies coming from above and below.




btw to get the most out of this game you have to play on expert. There is no substitute.

they say, its difficult, but not frustrating.. as long as u work with ur teams, all 4 with no active AIs, its really really fun.. dont b greedy and give out ur health when someone needs it

the AI director is brilliant, enemies spawn complete random on every game, im at the point where im too scared to stay in one spot and just keep moving cuz i keep thinking zombies will start running towards us..

and dont worry bout dying during the level, when all of ur team mates r still alive, u will eventually spawn back somewhere in the level locked up in a room..

1up has said that even the multiplayer is fun, playing as the survivors feels like an extended single missions while playing as the boss zombies makes the game feel totally different..

Expert mode is fuckin insane. But it's pretty easy with a group that knows what it's doing. Audio cues help you out a ton. I've played a few rounds with people who aren't even hurt once.

As for being able to play as the boss zombies, you can in Versus mode. It's insanely fun and introduces a whole new aspect to gameplay, really enforces zombie teamwork.

lol its not easy on expert but I'd say its just the right amount of challenge.

You just gotta have a group of skilled friends to play alongside. Only issue is unfortunate tank ambushes lol... For the horde you always gotta hear the music cues.. and either go back to back.. or find corners or positions where you can't get flanked. Usually you'd get hit maybe once or twice every horde wave.

If you are playing single player (hoping you were AT LEAST in expert) and using that experience to judge l4d, you might as well just stop playing and read about it on wikipedia and assumed you conquered it.
Of course it won't seem fun when you are playing it offline when the game is developed to be played with other people.

I blitzed through single player and campaign mode on non-expert setting just so i can get a feel for the maps.
And when it comes to playing it on expert with live people in campaign mode? fucking amazing.
Spent 6 hours on 1 campaign (not because my teammates sucks, but the AI director was bloody brilliant and brutal, spawning special zombies in the worst possible places and almost refusing to give us better weapons) and it was fun to play every single time.

yeah versus mode adds a whole new level to the game.. really emphasizes teamwork though. Unless you're playing against total noobs you always gotta get in that boomer first to distract/blind everyone then get the hunters to pounce on the better players with the smoker dragging one out of play.

Expert is the only way to play the game. Once you get a hang of the audio cues, shoving zombies/bosses, and managing health kits and pills, expert doesn't seem too hard.

nice video dual but i noticed the guy barely takes any damage from the zombies when they hit him, which means he's just doing the console commands in a normal or even easy mode game.

In expert mode the zombies hit for about 10 to 30 damage each swipe and boss zombies do about 30-60 damage a pop when they pounce/smoker choke. Not to mention tanks instantly incapacitate :p. With that many zombies you probably could barely make it off the rooftop.

The Director is the AI that controls how many zombies come at you and when. The selling point of this game is not only the coop, but the Director which makes every time you play the map a different experience. It makes the decisions based on how well you're doing (getting pwned or pwning), adrenaline level(based on your accuracy) and your health/ammo.

So the xbox version does come with the Director. Not sure if you can control it though because PC's have the option of opening a console inside the game and type in commands to change any aspect of the game (gravity, max ammo in a gun, gun damage, director, etc..).

the maps are not destructable environments... only like the doors, and gasoline tanks that can blow up some huts....

first was on the hospital, we heard the Tank grunting so my group decided to stay on the stairwell hoping it will show its big ass through the doorway so we can shoot it

Also tank fact: If you're playing in campain mode the AI controlled tank wont be able to smash down the safehouse door if u stand as close as you possibly can on the other side of the safehouse door. Instead of blasting the door down.. the tank will just try to hit you.

every episode/movie has a big finale where u wait to be rescued and insane amount of hordes, tanks, hunters and smokers come attack.. its just purely survival

my best advice, when a boat, helicopter or any extraction shows up, fuck your team and just run for your life.. u only need to stick together just rescue someone when being attack by a hunter or smoker..

of all the maps i played, i always died on DeadAir in the finale.. never manage to survive and espcape with a team

i actually find dead air the easiest of the 4 to defend.. just go back to the ramp where you come down from the airport to the runway and defend from there.. the mobs can only come in from 2 side.. only run out when the tank comes.. rinse and repeat til the plane arrives.. works great.. i find that mounted turret a trap lol it'll make u want to defend from there.. but usually it's real nasty there

for dead air me and my friends made use of the little closet on the back wall just past one of the airplanes and unhooked up fuel tankers. 4 lined up on the wall 2 shoot reload alternate then when the tank comes we all move out together.. get as much distance and one guy hucks a pipe bomb to get rid of the extra zombies that are still around. Usually each tank phase we go and reload at the minigun emplacement.

And tovs/anything flamable are the BEST way to kill tanks, its almost essential to have a molotov if you're fighting a tank in expert. Set it on fire, it does damage over time so once it sets on fire run like hell, kite it around, then if its still alive try to get it to loop or get it stuck somewhere.

This is strictly speaking 1 on 1 vs the tank if you want the MAN VS TANK achievement. 4 v 1 vs the tank obviously you can gun it down or set it on fire and run & gun it.


EDIT: I've only been playing expert co-op so maybe shits different in normal or other difficulties.

Also heres a couple tricks i've learnt, i've been playing a lot since my exams finished hah. Q or Quick switch + Melee, is an awesome glitch for beating off mobs quick, the Q just acts as a cancel and theres no wait time for melee. Also if theres no way around the witch, if you've got the auto shotty you can much 1 shot her for the "CR0WNED" achievement. Sneak up behind her with lights off, then as she gets up and starts screaming just land one good shot in her head and shes dead. You can unload on her if you want to be sure but you wont get the achievement.

we use that glitch on no mercy rooftop finale, let one person wait in the safe room and then have the other guy call the helicopter and wait in the room below the satellite until the 2 tanks disappear. after he switch to idle and it will automatically teleport back to the safe room and from there all we needed to do is keep pushing the safe room door so that the tank won't be able to break it and kill zombies non stop behind the safe room doors.

but apparently, after about 15-20 tanks, the door still breaks.

Had a fun game last night with Dead Air on advanced. I was playing with 2 other friends, and Louis (computer controlled) bought it. It was 3 of us vs the horde and 2 tanks. We managed to scrape by with very little health left, and just was I was getting into the plane, my friend shoots me in the stomach, because he thought I was a hunter, and I die, and only 2 survivors made it out. so i just bought left 4 dead when they had the 50% off sale...just got around trying it out...
and it's lagging! at first i thought it may be my connection...so i tried just single player and it still lags!...
the thing is my laptop is fairly new too...i bought it on boxing day...it's a dell inspiron 1525

it has a duo core 2.0 ghz and 3.0 gb of ram!!
i ran the cpu usage and it keeps stating that im using about 50% of the ram...is it because of this? any know how i lower the consumption?

i'm pissed that i can't run this game....i thought i exceeded the requirements for this game..or perhaps not?

change the in-game video settings. L4D lagged on my computer until i changed one of the settings (i think it was v-sync, but don't take my word for it)

Yeah turn off v-sync if you haven't.

the 6, 7, 8, and 9 series gave 11% increased performance on L4D.

You have an integrated video chipset, that's your problem. GMA3100 is still pretty crappy compared to a stand-alone card, though it is better than the GMA950 that is usually standard on many systems. And the T3400 processors aren't exactly powerhouses - they have to run the AI scripts as well when you're running single-player and that eats up CPU power.

Finally finished a No Mercy on Expert, with 2 of my friends. It took us almost 2 hours to finish because we kept getting wiped out right after we climb out of the sewers. Throw Molotov. Run. ????. Profit!

Hahah, they are so fun.
Playing one right now , umm called Blood Hospital, kinda glitchy because there is always two of every tank/hunter/smoker/boomer at once.
Weird but fun still can't beat level 2 on Expert mode ):

How do you play with other people.
the ones i downloaded has a icon on the desktop to run it

Blood Hospital is really fun... the hordes comes in HUGE swarms that cause my computer to lag. I played with one of my friends, and we finished it on Advanced with great difficulty, because the computers are extra retarded in this campaign. There's some bugs here and there, but, overall, it's a good 3 stages. I particularly liked how they did the ending.

K2: You want to unzip the maps into the maps folder of L4D:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\maps\ <notice the left 4 dead subfolder in the left 4 dead folder>

In order to play the map with friends, they have to have the map installed as well. Someone will also need to start a normal local server game, unless there's a dedicated server with this map. Once in the game, the person that started the local server can go to the console (~), and start the map by typing "changelevel blood_hospital_01"

EDIT: If the tilde (~) doesn't bring up the console, then you'll need to enable it. Go to Options > Keyboard/Mouse > Set Allow Developer Console to Enabled.

I think they do. I know my Zombie Genocidest counter keeps incrementing when I play a custom map.
