| New Mac User
I justy bought a new a MAC computer and it already has Safari as a web browser. I had IE on my old MAC and I can't seem to find the new version of IE browser for my MAC now.
Can someone link me to this site as it's all PC versions of it.
Thanks...

there is no new version of IE for Mac. use Safari, its way better/faster than IE. if you need to or you are more comfortable using Firefox then download that too.

here are some essential mac apps, grab them from versiontracker.com...
- Perian > a quicktime plugin with every codec except FLV, play all files using quicktime, it has a much better interface than VLC
- VLC > media player, use for playing music that is not part of your iTunes library, also FLV and MKV files
- CarbonCopyCloner > hard disk imaging and backup tool
- CyberDuck > ftp client
- Adobe Reader > not as fast as Apple Preview but has more functionality
- ChickenoftheVNC > vnc client
- DiskWarrior > file system repair tool, helps performance as much as a defrag but since mac users never defrag this is what it does... it rebuilds the disk directory (file system table of contents)
- Flip4Mac WMV Player > play windows media video files using quicktime
- iExpander/Stuffit-Expander > like WinRAR for mac
- Firefox > great for windows but i prefer Safari for mac, i use firefox because of the NoScript add-in
- HandBrake > rip dvds to mpeg4, latest version requires VLC to decrypt DVDs
- Onyx > system maintenance and clean-up utility
- MS Remote Desktop > remote into windows machines
- Seashore > free gimp based image editor
- SerialBox > lots of mac serial numbers, goto serialz.to to get it
- Roxio Toast > burn anything/everything, span discs, convert stuff, etc
- TubeTV > rip youtube videos to mp4
- VisualHub > amazing program, converts all kinds of videos to almost any format
- Xfolders > file manager
- Transmission > wicked torrent client
- AppCleaner > mac uninstaller, usually uninstalling on a mac is just dragging the app to the trash, this utility deletes all the support/cache/settings files stored in the library folders
- Adium > multi-protocol messenger
- Skype > skype for mac
- AirRadar > wifi stumbler
- NTFS-3G > allows write access to windows NTFS formatted drives

thats debatable, it all depends on your goal.... it is true that carbon copy cloner is better for cloning or imaging but it can be used for backups too. for most end users time machine will work wonders and allows you to go back to older version of files and recover deleted files too.

checkout www.insanelymac.com, great site. as any good forum the search function will net you a fairly decent answer to nearly any mac or osx86 related questions.

safari is a great browser and shares similar code with firefox. on windows i still prefer firefox as safari benefits are only available in mac os x... os integration, shared theme, ability to sync bookmarks with other computers/devices, integration with apple mail client (kick ass client, better/faster than thunderbird, amazing imap support).

Yeah, my lappy is used almost exclusively for research on the university's net so I rarely run into popups. In my opinion, the sheer functionality provided by Safari's tab and window system trumps anything I've used.

Safari is the least secure of all the main browsers out there, avoid it at all costs.
Firefox/Opera are your best bets.
oh, and because Mac users always dump this on PC threads: buy a PC!

oh, and because Mac users always dump this on PC threads: buy a PC! | Let the mac people be alone. They're a small, angry, loud minority. Just keep in mind that they are always going to be cooler and hipper than PC users, just like how we PC users will always be cooler and hipper and less nerdier than linux, unix, etc users. :P
Grats on the purchase. Hope you like it.

Grats on the purchase. Hope you like it. | if by cooler and hipper you mean cling desperately to every product Apple puts out regardless of whether they need it or if it's even a decent product but because it's the "in thing", then sure

if you're so happy with your pc why aren't you doing something awesome and spectacular with it instead of trying to impose your limited reality on ppl doing something different than you?
try setting up a truly useful PC and turn it into a dual boot Hackintosh/windows gaming box? that is if you're even remotely capable of motivating your mongoloid digits into doing something interesting, and educational.

Camino is a pretty decent alternative as well. It uses the same rendering engine as Firefox, but has a more "Mac-centric" feature set and style.

try setting up a truly useful PC and turn it into a dual boot Hackintosh/windows gaming box? that is if you're even remotely capable of motivating your mongoloid digits into doing something interesting, and educational. | Because they constantly try to impose theirs on mine, although its usually the Mac users with a pathetically limited knowledge of how computers even work doing so, thus I apologise if you are using a Mac because you need it for purposes a PC cannot accomplish, and not simply to "be cool"
I was actually tri-booted at one point with Windows, Hackintosh'd OSX, and Linux as I figured I'd give OSX a try and see if I had any use for it. I didn't, and thus scrapped the partition. I didn't find it particularly educational as it simply confirmed I have no need for a Mac, I'll stop there as I'd like to avoid getting insulting like yourself.
Now lets get back on topic to help chinesespareribs select a browser. Like I already said, Safari is the least secure of all the browsers, now it's very unlikely that anyone will try to take advantage of your particular machine but still. IE isn't fantastic either, and as it appears you don't have that option anyway I recommend you use Firefox as it's the most established of the alternative browsers out there IMO and should have the most support, albeit I've never had to use it so I can't say for sure.

Now lets get back on topic |
you sound like your constantly under threat from some unseen force, perhaps mac users are cold calling your house and demanding you change camps? have the jehovas and mac cultists joined forces to personally convince you to switch? quite sensitive as well for someone opening a can of worms on their own head. Yes, please, lets get back on the topic you originally deterred this thread from.

95% of PC users couldn't find their own IP address either...
Somewhat on topic, does anyone know whether Firefox on OSX has any form of spell checker built into it?
