^ It works for me, if not, then ur ports are probably not properly forwarded, or ur area is currently being upgraded.

Are you using a router?
If you use Utorrent go to preferences and lower the number of maximum connections. My linksys router would overload when there were to many connections.

Shaw throttles torrent downloads, which makes Torrents download super slow...but it shouldn't affect your general internet speeds.
But if your internet is slowing down because of torrent downloads, that's your router not being able to manage the number of connections properly. (P2P and Torrents use many simultaneous connections)
This is common problem for lower-end routers. Lower the number of max. connections in your Torrent client. Start with 50 connections and move up from there.
Or google your router and see if you can find out the number of connections it can handle.

For even a better router, flash it to DD-WRT!

if so, adjust ur TCP connections from 10 to 50. That should allow more connections and not boggle your connection when running a torrent download. http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads |

I can't say that I've noticed throttling with Torrents on Shaw. Most of my dl's are downloaded within a reasonable amount of time, it seems. I'm using Azureus Vuze, although uTorrent is popular. I may try this.

I have talk to shaw many times and they tell me they don't throttle and I believe them.
Most problems have tp do with the routers people are using and the way they have there bit torrent program setup.

Vuze and uTorrent both have the ability to use encryption, which is key. I don't know why anyone would use anything else.

I don't notice anything, I'm on shaw extreme and I download at 1.5mb/s and upload at 100kb/s. I'm on the WRT54g router and using utorrent or ABC, never noticed anything.

You need to port forward and flash the firmware on your router. Make sure not to do it wrong or you run the risk of bricking your router. http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Spec..._GL_GS_routers http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php...ation_Tutorial
How to fix bricked WRT54 http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/sh...ad.php?t=47259
You're lucky I had this shit bookmarked. Otherwise I remember spending MANY hours finding all this.
