Does it actually only last five minutes, or does it just shut itself down after five minutes?

A lot of times, the battery gets completely uncalibrated... and after five minutes, it "thinks" it only has 5% battery left, so by default, Windows will go into hibernation. However, if you disable the low battery actions, you might find that the battery actually has enough juice to run for another hour or more.

I've had screwed up batteries like that, where it will go from 100% to 5% in five minutes... and maybe another five minutes after that, it will say 0% battery left, but yet the laptop will still run for another hour and a half.

Well obviously newer technology = better battery life.

Yeah man X200's are sick on battery life. Ive got a T400 with the 9 cell and fully charged with brightness on 3 at school lasts me like 7 hours. Thinkpads are amazing with power management.
