Searched, but there has been no poutine discussion.
I had poutine up at Whistler at Zog's and it was delicious. Anyone know of good poutine places in the lower mainland?

Costco for sure. But the last time I went, it kinda went downhill. My cheese was literally frozen and the gravy was way too salty. However, it's still the best I have ever tasted in the Lower Mainland.
The fries make up for the crappiness of the gravy and cheese :P Oh god I love their fries.

costco is okay but the cheese sometimes doesnt even melt and its cold.
dairy queen poutine has good gravy/cheese but the fries are 7/10.
if i was to buy a poutine in the near future it would be at dairy queen, 6 dollars for a large and its a big box!

the BEST is at "fritz" it's on davies and granville in downtown.
Costco's pretty good - but everyone's right about the cheese curds.
Luckily I live by one and usually get it to go and bring it home and pop it in the microwave.
You get a tad soggier fries but at least the cheese is melted

Costco: ****
A&W: *** 1/2
BK:*
Belgium Fries: ****
NYF:*** 1/2
KFC: ***1/2
Still haven't tried Harveys, DQ, Fritz, Zogs. Heard that Hell's Kitchen has some pretty good poutine.

It's been a while I'm not sure exactly but it isn't really cheap from what I remember. It is however quite good they also have smoked montreal meat sandwiches which are great.
i dont think the frits at davie and granville is there anymore
I was there last Tuesday.
They're poutine is just so-so. Gravy is good as gravy generally is but I didn't really dig the fries. They had like NY Fries type of fries instead of the McDonalds, KFC type which I prefer.
Although Fritz does have more variations such as bacon poutine or chicken poutine which I have yet to try.

Went to Fritz last night for their Poutine..
Ordered the Jumbo Pountine with Montreal Smoked Meat.. it was alright.. shared with my friend.. definitely not worth the price... fries + pop + smoked meat = $10.25
also ordered a small fritz fries with chili chutney dip.. this wasn't bad... it was alright.. $4.75..
Probably not gonna visit again.. quality doesn't justify with the price..

Poutine was $5 for the medium. If you're hungry, the medium will do. If you're really, really starving, go for the large. The XL is only for people sharing..unless you're hardcore.
But then again, while I was there I saw a dude order a medium, eat it on the spot, then order another one for the road as he was walking home...

Just bought a Costco Poutine and you guys weren't lying when it was huge, hahaha
I expected a bigger box but it was good for the price, compared to NYF.
I didn't taste it fresh cause my friend bought it for me and came to my place, it was a little cold, so I oven'd it (PS: Styrofoam melts in ovens LOL) The cheese was semi-melted before I shoved it in the oven, it was more like room-temperature cheese, not frozen.
It was a bit soggy(as expected cause I didn't eat it right away) but it was extremely salty, not sure what caused it, I'm thinking the gravy cause my friend told me, the girl kept pumping gravy into the box and it was like a pond inside the box. LOL
Overall 7/10, better then NYF and it was pretty filling with lots of melted cheese too!

New York Fries!!!
During a non-busy time, and with accomodating staff, ask them to re-fry the fries to make them super crispy, then use the extra crispy fries in making the poutine (done this a couple of times).
You run the risk of a heart attack with the extra grease but at least you would die smiling =D

I don't remember exactly but it was over $10 and under $20. It isn't showing on their online menu right now but I know they have it. verdict. Poutine with wedge fries ( they claim their fries are awesome too ) those wedges rank in the bottom of all wedge fries i've ever had and the gravy tasted burnt and the cheese didnt taste too well either. 2 thumbs and 2 big toes down for Burger Heaven.

probably the closest to what you'd find in quebec. but their cheese, is more or less cold when prepared, so when they pour the gravy on it'll won't be melted all the way through. they say it's how they do it in quebec, jury is still out on that one.

Back when I was in high school (I went to Britannia) Belgian Fries was absolutely amazing. The quality of fries and customer service was excellent. They always made sure your food was up to expectation and at times, they would give us extra fries to take back to school with us in case we were still hungry.
But over the years, I noticed that the quality of food had something left to be desired. In addition, they stopped caring about whether you enjoyed your food or not. They just wanted you to order, eat, and to leave. I understand that it's a business but come on, without your customers, you wouldn't have business.
Belgian Fries has let me down throughout a number of different occassions. It's no longer on my list of "must go to" places for poutine anymore. Anny's is where it's at for now. Not only does she serve excellent poutine at a reasonable price, her smoked meat sandwiches and Montreal style steamies are delicious! :)

soo good
Wife had a craving for poutine, so I dug up this thread and decided to go give Anny's Dairy Bar a try. Poutine was pretty good. What really hit the spot, though, was the maple butter twist. It was perfect with the poutine as a "chaser" (for lack of a better word). Alternate between the ice cream and poutine, ftw!
Poutine 7.5/10
Maple Butter Twist 9.75/10
The combo.......... 10/10 pure synergy
The curds are squeeky. Cheese did not melt, but if you push them under the hot gravy they semi melt. It's the way poutine is supposed to be.
BTW, Hondaracer, they sell curds there. $23.00/kg. Not bad, I guess. It's hard to get that shit. Apparently, a lot of Quebecers go there to buy the cheese.
I guess home made is best, since you can make it the way you like. I recall Costco used to steam the cheese curds before putting them into the fries and gravy. This was long ago and they obviously don't do that anymore.
Next. Fritz. I would like to go tonight, but two helpings of poutine might be enough to send me to the grave. LOLOLOL

So, I went to Fritz tonight. The poutine was better than Anny's. The cheese was really good. Straight from Québec, so they say. The cheese is not squeeky and melts easily. It actually has flavour. It's more expensive. Time to go a few different places next week.

I don't go gravy so when I get a poutine I get no gravy and extra cheese and put it in the microwave and with just ketchup and vinegar. So so good yummmm

So, I finally got a chance to checkout La Belle Patatae this evening. I ordered the Traditional Poutine for $9.50, however I got it for $5 instead cause I had a coupon.
My first impression of the poutine was, the cheese curds were HUGE, unlike Costco's Poutine, the cheese curds were served warm, big and chewy. It had a very distinctive flavor compared to all the other cheese curds that I've had before.
The fries were nothing special, they were just like any other fries at other specialty poutine shops.
Now onto the Gravy, this is definitely the cream of the crop, I've never had such tasty gravy for a poutine before, it was rich, thick, with just the right amount of salt. Unlike the poutines from other places, the gravy was not salty at all.
Personally, it deserves a 9/10 for its overall presentation and flavor. It's definitely the best poutine I've had. Far better than the one besides Celebrities on Davie and Burrard.

To me, Poutine is a unmitigated mess of saturated fat upon saturated fat upon more saturated fat, but I find of the handful of places that I've tried poutine at, Vera's on Granville would probably be on the top of the list. Generous servings and more gourmet.
Nevertheless, leave it to the Quebecans to invent something like poutine...

gave brado's poutine a try over the weekend and loved it. the gravy was not overly salty, and the cheese curds were delicious and the fries were very remained crispy throughout.

i don't think they use regular cheese curds there, when i had it they seemed just like chunks of mozzarella, they shouldn't melt that easily

Thought I would bump this up again.
Has anyone eaten costco poutines lately?

Having it right now first time. It's salty at the bottom. It's not in styrofoam but also not as big as I thought. Also it's not 3.99, Came to 5.59 after tax. I was at the downtown Costco.

I'm not a poutine lover, but have had both Costco and brado's. Before I tried brado, I thought costcos was pretty killer. Now brado has left an urge for me keep going back to brado. Really good.

Poutine is my absolute favourite food!... I think I have pretty much tried every establishment in Vancouver (at least TWICE), Belgian Fries, White Spot, Costco, Burger King, Fritz, Crave, + over a dozen more I can't remember... yes it's a heart attack waiting to happen but so damn freakin' good!
I still think La Belle Patate is the best by a long shot!

Got the Poutine Pizza, a smoked meat poutine AND a Philly Sub! I actually liked the sub the most, the poutine was good, but not on par with La Belle, I would put it a fringe 2nd or solid 3rd... battle it out with Fritz... oh and the pizza was actually kinda gross... it sounded like a good idea at the time when I ordered it...lol but it's got no flavour and impossible to eat fast so the cheese just gets cold and solidifies into a block of gunk ...
Burger King gets my vote for most under-rated, for a fast food joint they got it down pretty good ...
Costco for most over-rated! I don't know how Costco gets so much poutine-props from you guys, it was very 'meh' to me when I had it, I've been twice and both times the cheese was pretty bad and salty!
I've had GOOD poutines at Coast, Chambar and Crave but that's cheating, they add some crazy delicious stuff (Lobster, Braised Ribs) in there so it's not a "real" poutine in my books  ... but pretty yummy!

Compared to Costco, all other poutine is less salty... I didn't like Costco's at all ... trust me La Belle is good stuff
Oh and I think I had the worst poutine a few days ago on the BC Ferry haha

Costco's poutine is super crispy and extra salty. The cheese is fine and so is the gravy. There's really nothing bad if you don't mind the extra sodium. La Belle is hands down Vancouver's best poutine. Somewhat salty, but just so damn good.
Get the La Belle Poutine at La Belle. It's got smoked meat and stuff. Awesome mix.
