The G1 is a great little camera. Very light, surprisingly good image quality. I know of a few pros who have it as a walkaround camera. There is an Olympus camera that is going to be released soon that is also based on the micro four thirds system. http://www.dpreview.com/previews/olympusep1/
Also look at the Canon G10 and Panasonic LX3.

fast AF. When I said fast, I mean REAL FAST. I'm pretty impressed with the camera but the size isn't really that small. It's apparently smaller than any slrs on the market right now but it's still a pretty big one.
like senna4ever said, if you want something even more compact, you can wait for the olympus ep-1
