now, if a claim is filed, who picks the stuff to be installed? is it just based on value on what you filed for?

Yup like SG said they cover $1000 INCLUDING TAX//LABOUR. So technically they cover $1300 minus the $300 deductible = $1000.
If you want to insure more than $1000 you will need to bring your reciept to an autoplan agent and get the special coverage. They will only insure in $1000 increments. Remember to factor in the 15% depreciation each year.
So if your car gets broken into and you lost everything. You would call ICBC to setup an appointment, then an estimator/adjuster will go over the car. You show them all the reciepts and they will give you a claim form. You then would bring the claim form to your ICBC stereo vendor of choice.
Then you're pretty much done. Just remember you likely need the stereo gear to be professionally installed to be covered. Reciepts should be in your name also. It's really 50/50 if you buy second hand and the reciepts in someone elses name.
Otherwise take detailed pictures of your stereo system in your car and record serial numbers.
