| More VPD f*ck ups
I know the VPD has some outstanding officers. But....
Vancouver Police chief Jim Chu apologized Thursday to a 44-year-old man who suffered injuries to his face after being arrested in a case of mistaken identity.
Yaowei Wu was recovering at his home Thursday night after two plain-clothes officers knocked on the wrong door during a domestic assault call early Thursday.
Officers were called to the southeast Vancouver house at 2 a.m. after a woman called 911 to report that her drunken husband had struck her in the back of the head and she was concerned for her baby’s safety.
Unfortunately, the officers didn’t realize there were two suites in the home and the complainant was actually Wu’s tenant who lives in a ground-floor suite.
“The cops didn’t ask clearly — not even ID me or anything — before they started beating me,” Wu told through a translator to the Ming Wao newspaper.
“I think they have an attitude problem.”
Wu said that before he could ask who the officers at his door were, he was dragged outside and beaten.
“My T-shirt was torn,” Wu said. “I was beaten for quite a while before I was handcuffed. My [sic] felt pain to my head and body. When I touched my head and face with my hands ,,, I felt my hands were all wet ... they were full of blood.”
Police spokeswoman Const. Jana McGuinness said Wu had “resisted by striking out at the police and trying to slam the door, but the officers persisted in the belief that there may be a woman and child inside who could be in danger.”
Wu’s wife heard the commotion and told the officers she was going to call the police at which time the officers identified themselves to her.
Three more officers later arrived, one of which spoke Cantonese and was able to speak with the couple and explain they had mistaken Wu for their suspect. Insp. Chu personally apologised to Wu.
Wu was taken to Vancouver General Hospital as a precautionary measure where he was treated for bruises to his head, waist and knees and fractured bones around his left eye.
He is scheduled to return to the hospital Friday to ensure his eye wasn’t damaged in the scuffle.
Police did return to the house where they spoke to the woman living in the ground-floor suite who said her husband had hit her during an argument and then fled. He was located nearby and arrested for assault.
The VPD's Professional Standards Section will be conducting an investigation and the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner has been notified.

The big issue I have here is the plain-clothes and the whole not identifying themselves thing.
That is pretty fucked up and there should definitely something should arise from that. I'm not normally here to bash cops but that is a pretty major fuck up. I can understand why they didn't I.D. Wu first but not identifying yourself while in plain-clothes is just fucked.
I would, however, take everything with a grain of salt. The news article is from the Province and their writers are like pitbulls who are always on attack.

Two painclothed officers, and the guy's 2nd language is English. He prob thought they wanted to rob him. Poor guy. What troubles me is it wasn't one police officer's lapse in judgement but two of them.

I hope the 2 officers gets charged for assault and sspend sometime behind bars, and the man gets compensated. Some policer officers r really nice, but some can be really cocky and such dicks. I feel sorry that man had to go through that.

Wow... poor guy and this is just one major incident that was known to public. I know a friend who's car got hit by a new mustang on ghetto chrome rims in a parking lot. The mustang tried to leave the scene, but was stopped by my friend. My friend called the cops, and the driver of the mustang turned out to be an undercover plainclothed cop.

So, drunken husband hitting her wife once = assault charges
and 2 VPD pain clothes that didn't ID prior to engagement beats 1 guy to fracture bones = "opps, we're sorry, but we cuffed the guy that hit the women, so it's all ok now."
WTF? Sometimes I just hate police....

id say this will be a slam dunk law suit, lawyer up and get your 150,000+ pay check sir.
Don't worry guys, Chief Chu will come down hard on these officers. From the time off work with pay, to the re-assignment to desk jobs in their new Vancouver office. Those officers will pay !

If a couple of guys in plain clothes didn't identify themselves to me as cops and then started to try to "arrest" me, I'd try to beat the fuck out of them too. That's not resisting arrest...that is SELF DEFENSE. There's no way they should be able to sweep this one under the rug.
