RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - A 20-year old woman may be facing charges after Richmond RCMP say she gave birth to a newborn and then threw it into the trash.

Mounties say the birth happened at her boyfriend's home January 21st. While he was asleep on the couch, she delivered the baby by herself in the bathroom, then woke him up and told him she'd had a miscarriage. The couple then wrapped the baby in a towel and discarded him in a nearby school dumpster.

Upwards of 35 officers searched the Burns Bog landfill for the baby's remains, eventually recovering the infant's body last week. An autopsy will be conducted to determine if the baby was alive at birth.

The couple don't seem like they were planning to keep it if they did something like that. Probably just a young couple who didn't bother taking precautions and figured they could wing it after the girl gave birth...
