I just remembered that today and tomorrow(June 29 & June 30), Superstore has the No Tax Event "for most items". (not 100% sure about other Stores but I know Grandview has it)
Just a heads up!

We in BC missed one. Ontario had a no tax event the same time we had BC Day. Oh well........ shit happens.

This week's freebie offer Free 34 Piece Rubbermaid set (value of approx. $29.95) with purchases totalling $250.00 or more. Buy a Nintnedo DSi or XBox or whatever and you pretty much get the stuff with no taxes, plus get the free gift, plus points if you collect it. It pays to sign up for points. I've already got like $300.00 plus worth - saving up for Christmas gift purchases. Damn it. Was hoping for free $25.00 gift certificate like last week.

Trust me, it's on.

I just got back from the Coquitlam store. At 7 am, there is very little traffic. I saw one guy buy a lot of video games.

I think they didn't do a good job advertising it. Word of mouth - it will be nuts by noon. Anyhow, it's every store in BC, Manitoba.......... well, you saw the thing I posted. Can't get much clearer than that.

Yeah, best time to go is 7 am. Only hard core shoppers go that early. I took a No Frills flyer to the Coquitlam store. Superstore match prices, especially No Frills - same company. Brand name pop for 95 cents. Take flyer to Superstore, no tax on top of that.

http://www.shopnofrills.ca/LCLOnline/

Check out "Won't be Beat" prices.

Does superstore actually do price match? because some of the stuff i see in the nofrills flyer is pretty cheap

They do. At least the Coquitlam one does, as there is a No Frills close by. Some of the prices are damn scary. Pure Life water 24 bottles for under 2 bucks!

Funny thing is, most people don't know about No Frills. They assume it's some hole in the wall. The Coquitlam store is pretty nice (clean and orderly). Produce department is nothing like Superstore, which IMO sucks at all the branches. The Rupert and Grqndview store is by far the filthiest, most disorganized store I have ever stepped foot in. This is before the renovations.

Anyway, a No Frills is opening up in the Knight and Kingsway area..... or was it Fraser Street.

Oh, No Frills does the PC Points thing as well.

Are they finally done their renovations because for quite a while there it was looking pretty fucking ghetto.

MG1
09-04-2010, 11:01 PM
I go there every once in a while, as my mom lives close by. The renovations are/were a nighmare. They had no plan and nobody there knew where anything was. It was the case of left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. Obviously fapping, LOL. It's par for the course at that location.

CRS
09-04-2010, 11:08 PM
The renovations are partly done at the Grandview location.

There are still sections that are still missing and a huge eye sore but the sections that are done look pretty nice. Have a look at the centre section that is now the vegetable/fruit area.

Like 90blkcivic said, the staff there are still a little confused on where things are so you might as well just go on a mini adventure and try to find things yourself.

MG1
09-04-2010, 11:08 PM

LOL, that Walmart a few blocks away is nothing to model after. Granted it was a patch job after inheriting the old Costco site, but it could have been renovated a lot better, too. Hey, it's East Van. We're used to it. Even if they were to make it look nice, the clientele would not feel at home. :D

Razor Ramon HG
09-04-2010, 11:28 PM
Walmart is Superstore's biggest competitor. Whenever there's a promotion going on at Walmart, Superstore matches it.

MG1
09-05-2010, 12:26 AM
Superstore tries to match everybody's prices, but fail big time. Today, large eggs were $1.50 a dozen at Shoppers Drug Mart. Superstore didn't have the yellow "price match" tags on the shelves. I think they were not able to match it. They normally match Shopper's $1.99 per dozen price.

To their credit, they do match prices when you take an ad up to the service counter.

lol ya this was the one at marine drive and main.

btw, there's a third kart to the really right, you can just barely see his kart is also full of milk.

just from what i can observe from the pic, they have at least 50 jugs of milk. oh did i mention...they're part of the same family. i know this cuz they were all talking together and when i was about to leave the parking lot i saw them all roll out together with their milk heading to the same caravan.

oh and expiry date on those is sept 21st.. so good luck to them finishing 50+ jugs in 2 weeks.

The Superstore No-Tax event is always a gong-show. It's been a while since I've lived in a house, so I guess when you have the space to hoard things like flats of toilet paper and rice, it's worth going to save a few bucks. But, unless you're buying big ticket items like TVs or video game systems (where you can save 20-30 bucks which is certainly worth your time and frustration waiting in the lineups), you can find better deals throughout the year at other stores on household items.

you place the mentos in your mouth while chug the coke down .... u can feel your mouth is having an orgasm ...

So a chick can pop a few menthos into her vag and then douche with coke and have an orgasm too?

That's a two for, right there. Douche and cum or...... cum and douche. Has a kind of ring to it. You might be onto something there, stoner.

I bought a bag of rice on Monday or Tuesday (can't remember) and I didn't get taxed.

I don't think rice is taxable. I mean if the governmenttried to do that, all Asians would be up in arms. Would make Oka look like a cakewalk. Don't mess with Asians and their rice.

Seriously, there is no tax on food. Junk food yes, but not unprepared food. If you buy one doughnut, muffin, turnover, etc., you get taxed. If you buy six, they are not taxable. A cookie weighing 230 grams or more is tax free, whereas anything smaller, by weight, is taxable (unless you buy more than six).

Just got back from SS. Wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. Most of the people made a B line for the electronics department.

Coquitlam store had issues with their computer system, so they delayed opening at 7 AM. Only one cash register was working. Total stupidity. Then, the dude who was on the cash register screwed up everyone's bill by not taking the taxes off. Dozens of people left without checking their receipts. I, of course, being a frugal Asian, checked. Bastards! Almost got ripped off. He was a total noob, because I got the Cottenelle wipes for free using the coupon from Invisblesoul's thread.

BTW, make sure to check the expiry dates on stuff. PC chips were on sale 5 for $5.00, but most of them were expired or about to expire. Thankfully, my favourite General Tao Chicken chips were good till the New Year. Coke products are on sale, and when you combine them with PC chips, you get those reusable bags for free.

Another heads up......... Today is 20X points at Shoppers Drug Mart. I'm up to 120, 000 points. Woo Hoo!!!

Good question. The managers might know, but they will deny it. It must follow some kind of pattern. The weird part is, it's not nation-wide. Western Canada is different from east and Maritimes.

Anyway, 12% is nothing to sneeze at. Just ask anyone who tithes - their "ticket to heaven" must be worth it.

The no tax event is somewhat a scam. There are certain things which you save on (e.g buying a ps3) but most of the time the price of the other items just go up in order to make up for the loss. Food already has no tax on it so on that particular weekend they jack everything up by 50c~couple dollars then they are making money out of it.

I use to work at superstore and when I was doing price changes during no tax weekends everything went up by like $1-3 (I was in the over the counter drugs + baby section)

Real shoppers price match, know their prices, check expiry dates, know what is freezer safe, know shelf life, and know what is taxable and what is not.

Inflating the price like that for a sale is illegal and against the Competition Act. Someone should really take some pictures of before + after price and grab the media attention to it.

But again for a company as big as Superstore...there must be some kind of loophole they are using. They wouldn't be doing something illegal to such a big brand.

Nevertheless...if the media expose the truth behind it...it would at least give them some bad publicity and lead to some better informed consumers.

bakasam
04-09-2011, 01:22 AM
Well I don't know the full details but from what I remember it would just look like price is going back up from a sale in the previous week and a bit more ontop of it.

For example:

Original Price: 8.99 (on most days on the rare occasion it is a bit higher)
Sale Price: 7.99
Then No tax week: 9.25 9.49 or 9.99

Edit: The system we print labels from is automated so its not something the local store managers set probably something from the head office so like you said thers probably some loophole or workaround

sorry oldie but i been putting c-lais to shame every since i was 16 (more maybe even younger) as we were not well off for a time so i had to try & make sure that i can save as much as i can (since i cook the dinner as well if dads busy which is most of the time)

no tax actually just sounds good but in reality u dun really save a lot, as its only like a few handful of things they wanna get rid of because its all in the mind (u think u get a deal cuz it says not tax & u got the 2 words stuck in ur head already)

i use to work at super store too & they just change the prices before hand (little bit before the no tax weekend like week or so) just so they dun get caught with this stuff (no sure if its right as its a long as time since i work there)

JesseBlue
04-09-2011, 08:21 AM
^ just like what is stated above...you probably know the prices of stuff that you always buy. if the price is higher, then you have the choice not to buy it there or buy it somewhere...imagine you are buying a TV and you see that the price did not budge couple that with a possible $20/30 off coupon and possibly more with you pc points...you would save a lot

Forgot to mention. Superstore does not match No Frills prices. Their excuse is that it is owned by them. However, the Coquitlam location honours the No Frills flyer prices. I tried to get price matching done at Price Smart. They won't match No Frills prices. The manager said, those prices are ridiculous and No Frills is not a major competitor - they're too small, like T&T, Nesters, etc. I told him Loblaws is way bigger than them. I basically told the guy to take the "We match All Competitor's Prices" display down, because it is an outright lie. He really didn't have an answer to that - it's only convenient to them when they want it to be.

No frills relies on unit sales maximization (turnover) with a lower profit margin per unit. They are differentiated with other chains also because lack of services (lesser customer service), but generally rely on that said volume model.

O and btw, there's a nofrills on west broadway where the office depot used to be.

Haha no kidding, I bought my king bed set at Sleep Country on sale. They told me they would price match anything similar. I was walking by the Bay once during a big sale, and found something "similar" that was ~$200 cheaper than the sale price at Sleep Country. All I had was my crappy cellphone, so I took a picture of the pricetag and the general description of the bed. Took it back to Sleep Country and they pricematched based just based on cellphone pic, no question asked.

They have good weekly sales. Some weeks, it's OK, but once in a while their sale prices are fantstic.

Last week, for example, Lean Cuisine frozen single dinners $4.99 at Safeway, Save On Foods, etc. was on sale for $1.00 at No Frills. Delissio Rising Crust Deluxe Pizza at Safeway is $9.99 for a single large size. At No Frills, it is $6.97 for TWO!

I love their $1.00 Sale or their Half Price sale. Happens twice or three times a year (alternating = 4 to 6 times a year).

http://www.shopnofrills.ca/LCLOnline/

As for service. They really live up to their name - No Frills. They don't have a pharmacy or a optometry department, etc. The service itself, as in interaction with customers, however, is very good. Nice friendly people. At least the one in Coquitlam has that kind of atmosphere. The produce is always fresh there and the place is kept very clean. Milk and egg prices are the lowest anywhere, and on a daily basis.

I've been to the No Frills on Broadway where Office Depot used to be. Prices there are a little higher than at Coquitlam, but same cleanliness.

I go to Safeway early in the morning to get their reduced bakery items and the people there are always grumpy. Downright miserable, in fact. Superstore people are a little better, but even there, people are generally miserable. At No frills, everyone from the cashiers to the people who stock the shelves are friendly. Save money and feel good about it - nice!

It depends on what you're looking for in your tv. I got a 46 Sony ex400 (barebones 1080p, 60hz) for 699-10%(employee discount from a friend)-25 gift card-tax + eco fee. Net cost was about $640. No store can/could match that price, not even for a refurbished model.

They expire that day, or in No Frills' case, they expire in two days. This weekend, No Frills had skinless boneless chicken thighs for 30% off on top of the sale price. They ordered too much, and they expire in a week! Score! Stuff like that freeze relatively well. They had pork ribs on sale for $2.00/lb. Large freezer, ftw!

Bakery items are 50% off at No Frills and Superstore, while meat and poultry are 30% off.

Safeway "expires that day" bakery items are more than 50% off on some items. Bread for 79¢, $15.00 cakes for $5.00, half dozen fancy doughnuts and pastries for 99¢, etc.

Time to head over to No Frills, get their flyer, and ad match to save even more.......... I hope I run into that grumpy lady at Superstore who hates price matching. I'm gonna make sure I get her as cashier.......... even if it means a longer line up. Bitch!

Short, Caucasian woman with mangled teeth that resembles Gollum from Lord of the Rings........ my precious.

I know the one. The Gollum comment made me think of her instantly lol

Got back about 30 mins ago from Richmond Superstore. There's no big line like the previous ones.. However there seems to be lots of cars there (undercover and outside)..

Or...try checking back that same Superstore. Now that the no tax weekend is over, they are probably bringing them back out.

I asked the guy in electronics to call a different Superstore to check but he said none had any.

As a former employee at superstore I can assure you that the stock level for any electronics there are super low and that chances of getting one are close to none. In fact there is probably 10 or less of all 3 consoles combined at any given store. Employees would often hold or sell it to another employee first so the customers would barely get the chance to purchase one. The low stock level is due to the electronics department being too small relative to the other departments (such as grocery) and other retailers (best buy etc).

A former electronics supervisor told me (when I tried to snag a ps3 on no tax) said that even though consoles aren't scarce products anymore Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo sends the most shipment to large stores like Best Buy/Futureshop then to specialized stores like EB then towards the rest like Superstore/Save Ons or whatever.

It was like that with new games too. Often they wouldn't have games that games on day 1 (probably like a week or two delay) unless it was a sure AAA title like Halo or COD etc.

^ This, especially with games. Both Halo 3 and Black ops when they came out had like 10 people grabbing it the morning after release at Superstore. My avatar sums up not having to deal with stupid lines and simply walking into Superstore before work and buying the game.

Not really racist!

Bought about $50 worth of stuff there the other day and "saved" about $2 in tax. The receipt had 2 numbers.. $51.xx and $53.xx. Apparently the $51.xx was the amount that I should be charged on my Visa according to the cashier. Confirmed it with the lady at the customer service. Check my Visa bill a few days later.. and what do I see? $53.xx. So much for no tax. Could care less about $2 honestly but it's the fact that it's advertised as "tax free" when it really isn't :fuckthatshit:
