these phillipino scammers should stop with this fucking bullshit and get a decent job to make money.
I once had a phillipino maid, she was a hard working person.
but this scam totally ruins my opinion towards phillipino people.... it's sad

To be fair, there are scammers of every kind. This thread just happens to be about philippino's.

Just saw this on one of my friends FB status and all I could just do was shake my head.

Just got serenaded by three Pilipino ladies who came in and sang a song and played the guitar for me so I gave them $10 towards a earthquake fund somewhere overseas. They had a business license to do it so karma is coming my way considering everyone else is to cheap in my office to give anything.

Forgot about this thread. I had a fun encounter with three of them on Saturday downtown on Granville. I was walking by with my headphones on when one of them tapped me on the arm and asked for a donation. I just say "No." and turn around but they get in front of me and ask again, saying how it's for kids and whatever. "C'mon, I know you have money."

They're about 15 seconds into spouting their bullshit when I slowly put my earbuds back in, looking them in the eye as I do so and walk between them to leave.

i had the funniest fucken time with one of em....

a buddy was eating at Pho'hoa near lansdown and i was at best buy having a smoke.

she kept on asking for money and started to piss me off " its for the kids at so and so"... i gave in and told her fine i have a few bucks she can have but its in my car. she asked me were i parked and i told her its kinda far( toys r us )... the woman insisted that she get the money.. so i walked around the mall and walked toward the toys r us .. walked near a few bmw's but i ended up walking into Pho'lan.... HAHAHAHAH... BUT THE LADY STOOD THERE AND WATCHED US FROM OUTSIDE..

after that ,we paid and had another smoke....and then she asked "so wheres my donation?" .. we ignored her walked into his car and drove off...

oh god she looked angry hahah

haha i had a funny encounter with these people. I was in waiting to get into caprice, I was a bit intoxicated when a one of these people came to me with their pamphlet thing. I simply said no thanks not interested before they could spill their beans. You figure theyd leave you alone once. But no they continued this time they opened with a "Nay ho ma?" in their flip accent, they continued to try to throw broken bullshit chinese at me. Then they tried mandarin. I said I had it yelled: "I dont want your shit butanganamo" haha good times.

I've had those serenader come into my store and ask for donation. For illiterate people, they sure are persistent since they can't read the "No Soliciting" sign. And anyone notice if this girl is one of them scammers? No job, no shame and Filipino, she fits the profile.

next time you run into the ladies, say:

"yeah, sure I'll donate"

reach into your pocket and and SLOWLY rummage around in an up and down motion, all the while not breaking eye contact with them. Start breathing heavily and say:

"yeah, oh yeah...thats it...Mmmmmm...yeah...almost...almost...."

meanwhile increase the speed of your rummaging gradually and say:

"oh shit.......UNCE! Whew! Thank you ladies."

And walk away.

has anyone actually reported this to the police at all? it's one thing to have fake pan handlers but it's an entirely different situation when you have an organized group handing out fake flyers to get donations for non-existent funds. despicable behaviour.

HAHAH I think I ran into one of these people
I was waiting by the 41 bus stop @ Joyce Station and was having a smoke, so I stood away from the line-up. A Filipino man (looked mid-twenties) came up to me and asked if I would like to donate, but I told him that I only had a few dimes left. He then proceeded to ask me if I had any bills ... :seriously: then I was like "... nah, sorry."
He didn't ask anybody in the line up; he picked out the people who stood off to the side :suspicious:

pastarocket
02-16-2012, 04:12 PM
One of the scammers tried to hustle me for money at the 41st and Joyce bus stop too. A young guy asked me for a donation, small change, to help Filipino orphans. Then he does his routine and shows the photoshopped pictures of kids on pamphlets to get my sympathy.

I didn't want to get into an argument with him. So what I did I do? I made a deal with him. -pretended that I was also doing fundraising to help the Japanese after the earthquake at the Fukushima nuclear plant.

-told the dude. "Ok. I'll make you a deal. You want a five dollar donation from me, you give me five dollars for the Japan earthquake fund."

The dude gives me a a "WTF?" kind of stare, then says "Are you serious?"

"Yeah. I am serious. Dead serious." He still thinks I'm playing games with him.

The Filipino keeps asking me for 5 bucks, while I give him the same reply "Give me $5 bucks for the Japan Earthquake fund, and I'll give you five bucks." This exchange goes on for about five minutes.

Then the bus arrives and I just take off with a smile. It worked. I flipped the scam on the Philippino. :smug:

They will never get a decent job, why? Most of them have illegal or do not have the proper paperwork to be here in canada. Worse is most of them do civil weddings just an excuse and easy eay on getting PR card to stay. Would seriously want them to be deported and black listed.
Posted via RS Mobile (http://www.revscene.net/forums/announcement.php?a=228)

this is very prevalent among newer Filipinos, many of the guys try to sponsor their "Wife", which is really their sister, cousin etc. just so they can re-unite with their family. I hear many stories from people that are account managers or representatives at banks that open up shiet loads of new accounts for Filipinos, and their suppose wife looks like their sister. This happens with other races too unfortunately.

I think one of the problems with these scams is that filipinos are the largest beneficiaries of the "skilled-labour" policy for immigration, where many come here with nursing, care-aid certificates/skills. From what I heard from my friends, the ones that come here with the fake credentials and cant find proper jobs are the ones that are resorting to these scams.

Because of the scammers, I now associate Filipino people asking for donations as scammers. So the very first thing I thought about was the scammers are going to get rich for the next month or 2 by asking for straight cash donations or selling stickers

publicly shaming the scammers would probably help just as much as donating to a reputable organization.

It seems these women have made their way onto the island as well. I've been approached by these women on two occasions. The first time was a couple months ago. I was walking through UVic with my earphones in and my head down looking at my phone when out the corner of my eye I see this little asian lady weeding her way through a group of people and coming straight towards me. As soon as she gets to me, she grabs my arm with one hand with and flings her book on top of my phone and pushes it into me. I had no idea what this was about so I stopped and took out one of my earbuds. All I hear is something along the lines of "donations..children, Philippines.. $5..sign here" I said "no thanks" and started walking again, but she proceeds to stand in front of me and walk backwards and repeat her speech again..all while her book was still on top of my phone. I put my earbud back into my ear and kept walking. She finally gave up after realizing I wasn't going to stop, which was about ten feet away from where she initially stopped me.

The second time happened a few weeks ago at the same place I encountered the first lady. I was walking with my earphones in when I see this lady come towards me with a book in her hand. I recognized the book, so I didn't bother taking out my earphones. I just told her "no thanks" and continued walking. She tried walking beside me and pushing her book into me, but i just kept on walking and she gave up.

Since the Asian population is smaller on the island compared to the lower mainland, I got a good chuckle at how they only target people who looked Asian. There were Caucasian people walking around me both times I encountered them, but these women all made an extremely obvious effort to only make their way towards the Asian crowd.

there was a squeegee kid in the intersection of boundary and grandview last week. i have to make a point of paying attention to them after one carved up my side window with a squeegee that had no rubber blade.... so no, they are not doing me a service.

The difference is these people are at least puting forward an effort not just holding their hand out

If a squeegee guy had a hat and I told him I'd give him $20 for the hat he'd probably sell me it cause he needs the money that bad, if I was to tell the Filipino ladies to give me their charity registration number they'd probably balk at me as an insult

I'll give Somone $20 to get some booze over some scam artist who's going home to a house and spending my donation on purses and shit

I seen them at my school...
Also at ubc.
The thing is they disguised as students..
One indo/flipino girl started starring at me and just held out a pen to me.
At first I thought "sweet, free pens", but then she asked if I were Chinese and held out a clipboard to me. I asked what is this for and she said "help children in Asia." (with her broken English)
I wasn't convinced so I gave her back the things and I was on my way while she gives me a weird stare trying to guilt trip me.

If I want to donate, I will donate to legit organizations that actually help the cause. I really don't trust these solicitors. :suspicious::suspicious:

I held my hand out and said, sorry employees only beyond this point...and the lady said in a loud voice, "you touch me and I will sue you!"

I straight up shouted back "GET THE FUCK OUT SCAMMERS OR I AM CALLING THE POLICE FOR TRESPASSING, AND DON'T EVER FUCKING COME BACK."

They are at Broadway station quite often, they even go door-to-door in the Hastings/Boundary area, my buddy's parents owns the Kato Restaurant up there and they always harass them for donations.

I say "harass" because 99% of them are straight up scammers. Most donation collectors have licences or ID cards from their agencies (Red Cross, etc), if you ask any of these losers to provide one they 99% of the time will not be able to provide one. Keep asking them where the money goes and the answer changes every time. Very common around Christmas.

I am Filipino and I can say this is a pretty common trait even back in the Philippines. It is what it is, just ignore them and act like they aren't there. Your money will probably go farther with a homeless guy than these scumbags who lie about a charity to steal your money.

This past saturday afternoon I walked into starbucks at king george and 74th area with my brother
and we saw a couple filipina ladies talking to a guy (prolly a student) and succesfully get a couple bucks off him.
i was telling my bro look at the disgrace to our names hard at work (we're filipino btw) as I smiled and gave the the opening they needed.
Boom they zeroed in on us and asked us if we're flip and immediately called us kuya kuya
help out the little brothers and sisters in the the phillipines (in tagalog mind you) i smiled and replied to her in english loud enough for the whole store to hear.

me: oh you want money for the kids?
them: yes
me: but i just donate $40 to the other girl up by surrey central.
them: really? you are so generous kuya
me: yea but im not satisfied
them: why kuya you are not satisfied?
me: well i don't want to get her in trouble
them: its ok you can tell us kuya she's probably our friend
me: well ok ill tell you why i'm not satisfied...it's uh..well are you sure she wont get in trouble?
them: yes
me: well she didn't swallow so i'm mad
them: swallow kuya?
me: yes
them: i don;t understand kuya
me: you don't understand swallow?
them: no
me: ok let me tell you what happened, i was driving to pick up my brother at surrey central station when she came up to my car
and ask me to donate to the kids I said im not sure she said its for good cause
i said im in hurry can you just ride with me and tell me about it and she said yes at which point when she got in car she told me about it.
i told her if you suck my dick ill give you 20 and she said no i dont do that.
well i said 40 and we are helping the kids and she finally said yes ,so she was sucking my titi and then i was cumming and then she spit it out see? because ....she didnt swallow.

now they are looking at me all wide eyed like seriously? and most of the store is looking at me like wtf

them: did she really do that?
me: of course, now you understand why im not satisifed, i'll tell you what i still have 40 dollars which one of you girls want to come to my car with me?
them: no no no we don't do that

then they hurried out the store.

when they left me and my bro burst out laughing and when we looked up people were like W T F.

I explained to everyone there. If these solicitors want you to donate and show you a flyer/pamphlet and what not DO NOT donate they are not legitimate ask them for the charity credentials and they won;t have any.
It is a scam they are making my culture and people look extremely bad...
(i can see some people still looking at me suspiciously) and btw I havent been near Surrey central today what i said was a lie and a little payback. i still have 40 in my pocket and when i went to order my drink i got it free of charge :fullofwin:

I don't think ignoring them will solve the problem, they will just continue to do this to people that are oblivious to the fact that they are scammers. I think we need to make people more aware. Why isn't there a Steel on your side story about this?

Or, is there anything that will punish these individuals, if there are repercussions or something that will deter them from doing again.

You wouldn't believe the programs out there.

I hate to say this but if you really wanted to get your life back on track, there are people and resources there for you. However, being a drug addict, there isn't much you can do... Other than being a drug addict.

So these guys basically get stuck in a cycle of drugs and "easy money" and never get out.

There are some instances of change. My church works with the union gospel mission and there have been a few converts. I think four to my knowledge since I've been going to my church... Which is like 25 years. There are probably more, but I have only heard of a few.

Their stories are all pretty ridiculous/similar. They are from a broken home or they left their home to live on the streets. Turned to drugs, prostitution, etc. Then these few were rehabilitated and now they found work. The work is pretty decent from what I've heard, but who knows. I know one girl got a job in an administrative role. Though, I don't know if they're still at their jobs.

There are definitely some good stories out there, but not many, at least I don't know of many.

I personally know plenty of Filipino families whose ethics are f'd up enough that they likely force their kids to do that. It's an unfortunate case of parents exploiting their kids to make some dishonest money. And these kids probably do it because - lets face it - they probably get paid way more than the 6.25 you'd get at McD for the "first 500 hours" (do they still do that?).

That's a bit harsh IMO, there's nothing wrong with homeless people sitting on the side of the street asking for money, sometimes if I have a bunch of loose change I'll hand it their way if they don't look like a drug addict. My personal beef with these "donation collectors" is that they are pretending to be legitimate collectors for organizations like the Red Cross, etc. in order to beg for personal money. Essentially, they are committing fraud, which is illegal... too bad half the time, our fine police officers camp out at 4-way stops in rural areas to scrape traffic fines. Half the time, these people don't even look "poor". Not to mention that a lot of these Filipino ladies/children are WAY more aggressive than any homeless person I've ever ran into in my life, and I grew up in East Van lol.

Its the same as saying not all people from Ghana are pretending to be African princes on the Internet. We know its true, but there are just so many stories of scams out there in the public consciousness that have been going on for literally YEARS (as has this thread) if you see some folks asking for money to donate to the Philippines for X reason, you just naturally suspect its a scam.

Once I was approached, asking me for money in front of a save-on-foods because they had to buy milk for their two kids.

I asked for their names and was told 13 year old Mark, 9 year old James (or something or other) - I knew it was probably a lie, but dearly hoping it wasn't a lie, I gave them $10.

A few weeks later, same person, same story - so I asked for the kids names again...and suddenly it was 12 year old Fred and 6 year old Kevin.

I asked what happened to Mark and James, advised them that if they're going to lie, at least use the same lie, and told them to fuck off lol

Nobody is accusing filipinos of being slackers or lazy workers. i agree that they are one of the most hard working people around but the issue here is there is a growing number of filipinos taking advantage of disasters happening around and asking for donations/charities just to make profit. How do i know they are scammers? well quite honestly, i dont. I dont have a clue where the money goes or what they do with it but you ask them the same question and they cannot give you a straight answer either nor can they give any real proof or documentation that it is going to a good cause and just try to divert the question. All they have is a 3 ring binder with a couple pictures of disasters taken from google image and show them to bypassers. What makes it worse is their method of asking which lacks decency. I wont go into details as this thread already has a few examples of methods they use to ask for money but point is, these people need to stop being heartless for the sake of money.

for the sake of the arguement, i am filipino.

Good on them for working after hours for these charitable organizations.

Was approached by 2 scammers in front of the London drugs on kingsway by joyce. They were sold rude, I barely got out of my car, I opened my door and was still sitting in my seat when they approached and gave their spiel . I got out and said Sorry im not interested, blah blah blah, and they keep asking.

I asked for a license or something to prove they are legit and they gave this really fake ass laminated card thing. I was going to look it up on my phone to prove them it's fake. but didn't want to waste my time so said sorry not interested. They got really agitated that I would ask about their legitimacy and said I was rude. I just kept walking away.

BTW this was at like 9:30 at night as well.

How has it been deduced that this is a legit scam? I've worked with lots of Phillipinos to know they are one of the hardest working immigrants. They basically work their asses off 24/7 and then send money back to their families to help them out of poverty.

There's a reason why companies hire foreign temp workers like Phillipinos. They don't slack off, call in sick, skip work because they dont feel like coming in. They are definition of hard nosed blue collar work individuals. Not to mention Phillipino food is top notch

I am Filipino and personally don't find any of this racist. Upsetting, maybe, that the stereotype of "Filipino scammer" is so common due to the bad apples in my group, but like all stereotypes they exist for a a reason.

For starters, none of these so-called donation seekers have any ID from the organizations they claim to work for, no uniforms, lanyards, hats, shirts etc. Not to mention most of them stutter/sound uncertain when asked about the actual organization itself that they supposedly represent. A lot of them are really rude too, and will grab you/pull on your jacket or arm if you walk away. Salvation Army, UNICEF, Red Cross etc., people generally don't do that. Legit organizations also never use kids - unless it's something FOR kids like Girl Guides/Boy Scouts, kiddie sports teams, etc - to get money.

I don't disagree that the majority of Filipino people I know are hard working people, my mom and dad are the hardest working people I know. But it's similar to the 5% of the East Indian population that are "Surrey Jacks", the 5% of Mainlanders who are rude and unclassy, or the 5% of the Vietnamese population who are wannabe gangbangers... the negative stereotypes often cast a shadow on the whole.

Btw Filipino food sucks compared to Chinese/Vietnamese/Japanese food. I'm Filipino though, so it may be just me tired of eating the same shit for the past 22 years...

^I agree with all of your points except the food thing. Admittedly I don't eat Filipino every day (only when I visit my parents which is a few days a week), but I crave home food as much as I crave sushi/pho/luc lac/ramen/etc when those cravings hit.

Like you my parents raised 3 kids with almost nothing, and I try when I can to return the favour. These scummy scam artists make it so hard to help the Filipinos that really need the help that I basically just donate to Red Cross and let them deal with dispersing the funds.

This past Christmas I was at metro sitting on a bench waiting for a friend. Two Filipino ladies comes by, one of them hands me an envelope that says something about asking for a donation. Then she opens up her folder and reveals the names of others who have donated, hands me a pen...

Told her I wasn't interested...
Lady: HONEY!! It's for a good cause!!!
Me: no thanks, not interested
Lady: BUT HONEY! Its for a good cause!
Me: no I am not interested...

Probably trying to scam the people giving donations to the temple thinking thats what they are doing if they gave them the money. I didn't see them there, but I also went earlier than 1 am.

you can have so much fun at the expense of these people...and the best part is, they totally deserve it so you can't really feel bad.

Wanna practice your acting skills? Troll these people around!
Wanna make a hilarious online skit with unsuspecting participants? They're free and available!
Have you always wanted to act full retard but you're afraid friends and family might judge you? Well, fret no more!
Wanna see them get in shit? Phone the police from an anonymous phone line, tell them someone is selling crystal meth and bath salts and is pushing blowjob donations on passerbys

The possibilities are endless. The reason why they're still around is because they're not getting enough shit from people. They wanna be pushy...I can play games too.

haha I was also at the Granview Superstore last night at 930 when she approached me and said "ni hao", (how are you in mandarin). I looked up and she opened this black book with photos and said it's for charity. I gave a firm no and she walked away quickly.

^Yep that's them! Thinking back, I should've just informed management to get them kicked out. I doubt they asked for permission to solicit customers in their location.

I was at Safeway on Kingsway and Tyne yesterday after going to the bank and I was counting my money/organizing my wallet in my car and the random lady just appeared out of my driver's side window, it's like I'm trying to do something semi private in my car and she kept on asking for donations after I kept saying no
