the specs on the sl2 are similar to the sl3, aside for the 3rd channel.

ive been reading everyones review, and they said the sl2 was a great upgrade from the sl1, but if currently go tthe sl2, unless you want to run 3 decks or recording, then dont bother to upgrade to the sl3.

I am planning to buy some monitors and was looking at the Yamaha HS5.
Is it better to buy HS5 (200$x2) and a subwoofer(300$) or to just buy HS8s(350$x2).

Any other suggestions?
I read that even though HS5's are 'not good', they are your basic beginner monitors .

Yea i read that low ends werent that good on the hs5s so I'm thinking if hs8 alone can compensate for that or hs5+subwoofer(300$) is a better choice since the price comes out to be the same.

I wanna get into mixing but I have no clue what to start off with. Tech 12's, Stanton str8's or something like a CDJ? I know it's best to start off with vinyl but it is pretty expensive.

If you are not going to be a turntablist go with a controller. I would take a good look at ht e new Pioneer DDJ-SR it's a 2 channel version of the controller I just bought and comes with Serato DJ. The one I have also can be used as a stand alone mixer so you can add turntables and other devices. Another option is the Traktor S4 and S2 they use Traktor software. remember to save some money for speakers and headphones.

I would definitely say start off with industry standards, or similar to them... CDJ800's and any mixer with a 3 band eq will be fine. Grab serato and you're off to the races ;) DON'T cheap out on headphones... Sennheiser, Pioneer then Sony... in that order.

I was/am strictly vinyl tho. So if you want to start off learning grass roots get some Technic 1200 MK2's (and serato).

I used to DJ clubnights and raves in DT. Had a couple residencies.

Do not just go for the cheapest. A poor DJ can ruin a reception. make sure the DJ is using pro audio equipment not home audio equipment. Also If the DJ mentions a Ipod or brags about how many songs he has stay away.

When looking at a controller you want to look at the software it uses. The Wego uses Virtual DJ. It's a good program but Pioneers higher end products use Traktor or Serato. if you can wait till January Pioneer is releasing the DDJ-SB. It's the same price as the Wego but uses Serato into and can be upgraded to Serato DJ.

if you are going with a controller i think its best to figure out which program you like to use first, you don't want to find that after you've purchase the controller

Have been mixing for a bit over a year now. I initially learned on google/youtube using Virtual DJ LOL! I then moved on to Traktor since my buddy converted me haha.

Have been using that since and I now use a Traktor Kontrol S2. It is a very good controller & easy to use. Best bang in the buck too as it got a built-in soundcloud & I can do a lot more with that compare to CDJs. Would recommend the S4 for people due to its individual filter knobs + extra 2channels.

CDJs are great too for pure mixing but just not in my budget.

Big Jog Wheel
The most noticeable CDJ PRO gear integration to the DDJ-SZ is its large 8.1-inch JOG wheels. Pioneer has always been at the forefront of the djing game when it comes to equipment. They always manage to hit the nail right on the head. I fucking love all their mixers. I remember when the DJM500 came out.. then the 600, then the 700 lol. Loved messing with them.

You will be able to get tracktor mappings for the Pioneer DDJSZ. The price for the DDJSZ is going to be around 2k but I have heard of a street price as low as $1700 US. Thats about a 1k more than I paid for my Pioneer DDJ-SX.
