I'm a bit confused. So i'm level 5. I decided to walk to the elders at the top of the ice mountain to get my shout training but I couldn't kill a single frost troll on my own! I was just following the door on my minimap like a derp (not taking side quests)..walking for 15 min straight. Am I playing this severely underleveled and playing this game wrong? Lol. First time playing a game like this

The game difficulty scales with level...although you likely can't put a dent in some of the tougher mobs early on in the game.

it feels like my weapons are so underpowered as well

currently i'm like lvl 17 and i dual wield 2 maces with about 30 dmg each plus magic damage

some of the NPC's that come with me seem to beat down stuff way harder than i can

Lydia fucks shit up for me but she always gets in the way. She just seems to walk in front of all my arrows and then fly across the room dead so I have to reload, dammit.

If you are having problems with monsters, get a companion. You can get one early by:

Talking to the warrior girl in the bar in Whiterun, you will have to beat her in a fist fight. Or you can hire the archer girl in the archer merchant, also in Whiterun

Companions make the game a lot easier in the first 10-20 levels, I recommend keeping one with you at all time, until you level up a bit.

I imagine she's a bitch to have as a rogue type unless you make her wait all the time

The game difficulty scales with level...although you likely can't put a dent in some of the tougher mobs early on in the game. It scales to some degree, but a lot of the monsters and low-level humans don't scale. Trolls, Spiders, regular Bandits/Forsworn/Draugr, etc. all stay relatively the same. When I was in single-digits, a few Frostbite Spiders would overwhelm me even with a companion, but they've been 1-hit kills for many levels for me.

I enchanted another set of Glass Armor focusing primarily Destruction cost reduction ... 80% cheaper destruction = 24 magicka for 90 damage Incinerate, I have 360 magicka (7 dual-casted Incinerates, Icy Spears, or Thunderbolts), and my armor rating is 260 :)

This morning, I walked through a dungeon by myself (companion got stuck in a grate in the first room of the dungeon) on Expert and leveled everything. Took out a Draugr Deathlord in 2 hits :)

I really like Eola as a companion; she stays in the back casting Conjuration and Destruction spells, resorts to a bow when she runs out of magicka.

She's who I have with me right now, she may be older but she's got pretty big tits in that armour :D

Where can you get lots of petty soul gems? Got tons of iron daggers to enchant. Dungeons would be the obvious answer, but if you're looking to buy, pretty much all the court wizards sell them and, of course, the College of Winterhold. You can occasionally find them at general merchants as well.

Just started this game a few days ago and OMG you can just get sucked into this game and lose track of all time when playing. Never played previous TES games or this style of game to begin with so this is my first taste of a game that is so open to do anything.
I've spent most of my time just wondering around and discovering new places, haven even started doing the main quest yet. So much to see and so much to do!

Sometimes I think I'm playing the game all wrong by just doing whatever, but so far, I'm really enjoying it.

careful with daedric armor, after I got it, it kinda ruined the game for me. It basically gave me godmode and I didnt even bother shielding anymore.

and like when i was fighting alduin, his firebreaths only did like 1/4 of my hp (on hard mode too)

Went from 20-90 smithing just crafting the shit out of iron daggers and improving them. Gonna stuff them all in a chest and enchant them later to sell.

Training is not a waste of money! If you ding without maxing out your 5 training sessions, you are wasting your leveling. Even spending on stuff you don't need if you are low on cash is worth it.

You don't even need to waste money for training. Just make them your companion, train and then make them give back your money by "trading".

Training is a waste of money. Those 5 sessions count towards your level progression.

Lol. Skinnypupp, you clearly do not know how to play the elder scrolls games. I've played since morrowind, and I'm pretty sure I've played oblivion more than you. The more you level useless skills, the weaker your main skills are compared to your level, and you will have a tough time killing enemies.

Seriously, learn to play the game before you spout off nonsense

At the point where you're maxed out in your main skills, the game is so goddamn easy and tedious that you may as well try something different to spice it up.

Your insulting, condescending rant made absolutely no fucking sense ...

The game is already too easy without maxing out your levels.

One piece of advice: Don't save up things like potions and small soul gems. use them up or sell them ASAP. That little stuff respawns, and there are enough dungeons that you'll never run out, especially once you are powerful and can kill baddies quickly.

But if you save them up, you'll have tons of them scattered in your inventory, and merchants will never have enough $$$ to buy them all.

I guess it depends on your play style. My character is quite rounded, with points in a lot of stats:

archery
sneak
lockpicking
speech
pickpocketing
one handed
light armor
smithing

If I was to never train, some of my lesser used skills (gained from, say, hand to hand combat) would be far behind others (like getting beat on to increase light armor). So by level 40, I might be in the 40's or 50's with the lower skills, but with training they are in the 60's and 70's with the other skills.

The thing is, skipping training is permanent. Once you level, you just lost 5 chances to train a skill that is lagging behind. And as someone said, money in the game is easy to get (you are almost always richer than most merchants). So why not?

Ronin
11-27-2011, 01:07 PM
Why would you need to have some of those skills in their 40s or 50s? You'll never use that stuff especially since the game gets easier as your character levels...combat is especially easy once you have equipment.

I barely use any magic so most of my magic numbers are in the 30s. I'd rather just start another character instead of leveling one character with all the skills at 100.

My friend had a sound driver update install that set his sound to surround; everything still worked normally except Skyrim, which was ultra quiet when looking directly at someone. It was a quick fix in the sound properties.

is there any mods that make the weapon fighting actually realistic and satisfying ?

I tried getting into the last Oblivion game but just couldn't get past how they wielded their weapons, very clunky and looked like something out of the PS2 and Xbox era...
feels very robotic and unatural when youre fighting would be the best way to explain it
When I play these types of games I'm always some sort of warrior class mainly fighting with weapons.
The other issue also is the way the characters and even horses move, especially on uphill or downhill terrain, it's just horrible.... these are things that you do for most of the game, fight and walk around so pretty big deal

Actually a very good article on Kotaku linked here, 10 Things I Hate About Skyrim (http://kotaku.com/5862409/10-things-i-hate-about-skyrim?autoplay) pretty much nails some of my complaints

It's a game. I don't know any other RPG's that wield swords "realistically". I play in first person so I can't really comment on how things move.

Did you enjoy GTA? Did you complain about how unrealistic that game was too?

I'm not saying the games perfect, it definitely needs a little more depth. But for what it is, it's pretty good IMO.

And the link you posted, the guy whines about horses not being able to walk backwards, the graphics, character creation, game bugs, 80 hour gameplay, etc.

First off, it doesn't take an hour to create a character if you're not a retard. Graphics on most top tier games aren't any more realistic. Who cares if the horse doesnt walk backwards. I haven't encountered many bugs in the game. 80 hours gameplay is better than 5 hours of gameplay. Look at WoW, COD, BF, etc. I'm sure most people sink more than 80 hours into those games.

^i agree with most things said. but one of the commenters on the link posted got it pretty damn right "THE COMBAT IN SKYRIM IS TERRIBLE! I MEAN HOW THE HELL CAN CRITICS AND OTHER GAMERS NOT EVEN MENTION THIS? IT'S AS IF THE GAME GETS A FREE PASS WHEN THE ACTUAL GAMEPLAY IS SO DAMN BORING, BROKEN, AND HASN'T CHANGED SINCE MORROWIND.."

I enjoy skyrim but I cannot play it for more then a couple hours because it really does it get boring and reptitive. It happens with all open world games.. too much envrionment and not enough unique things to do in it. I honestly have more fun killing hookers in GTA 3 then I do playing GTA 4 :P

G-spec
12-05-2011, 12:28 PM
yea the guy is definitely nagging about most of things there but he has a good point about some of it, the hair does look terrible, lol, but who cares always wear helmet anyway... but combat is the real issue

and the game is something i wanna get into, but like bloodmack quoted, combat hasn't changed since Morrowmind, still basically the exact same... and i just cant get into it because it is so....... "basic" i think that's the word to describe it best, it is so very basic, it could be soooo much more than what it is, especially considering how much work they put into it and they totally neglected one of the most important parts of the game.... Players wanna feel like they actually beat the shit outta that dude skilfully when you connect a solid hit, you want it to feel like landing a perfectly timed uppercut in street fighter, but instead it just feels like you pressed some buttons in no particular order good ole hack n slash style...

I think the closest game in this genre that gives you this type of satisfaction when in combat would have to be the new Batman games, I played a few minutes of Arkham city and combat felt pretty damn good, not perfect, but pretty good

i have the same problem man. I juse use the dev code to turn off ai detection and i do what i need to do and then GTFO, its worked good for my 70+ hours of playing so far.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim (PC) cheat codes, hints, and help (http://www.gamewinners.com/Cheats/index.php/The_Elder_Scrolls_5:_Skyrim_%28PC%29) press ~ while playing the game and type what you need.

eh, i just tried a reinstall and that fixed it as well.

Any help? Its for pc btw Not sure, I pre-ordered it and had it installed before it even came out (still locked but pre-installed). I don't really remember how long it took to install as I just had it going in the background and I wasn't anxiously waiting for it to finish like you likely are.

Free High Resolution Texture Pack released for PC. PC already looked better than consoles, now it's an even bigger difference.

got the creation kit working. made a dungeon named sandor's tomb with a patroling warlock.

VERY powerful program. STEEP learning curve, but if you follow the tutorial on creationkit.com it's pretty easy to make a custom place/quest etc.

faaaack I'm frustrated, just got it again for PC this time and I been playing for days now level 10, and every time I get completely drawn into the Skyrim world and my mind is filled with wonder... it abruptly stops when I end up having to fight an enemy...
this because it involves less fighting and more strafing backwards, forwards, left and right.. then pressing mouse buttons while hoping my crosshairs remain firmly aimed at my enemy so I could connect my blows...

got a few mods on it already like the SkyUI, and few other minor ones.... but is there ANYTHING out there that makes the physical combat more fulfilling?
I literally feel like I'm driving a Ferrari with spare tires on all 4 corners...

The creation kit is fucking awesome.

I've started a Thalmor Invasion mod and thinking of doing an Ultima Black Gate crossover mod.. where your dragonborn goes thru a moongate and finds himself in Lord British's castle and has to save Iolo and Shamino. haha
