Man I would love a physical burlap map to hold. So awesome, might make me pre-order after all.

To prepare for skyrim I loaded up Oblivion again and..... man the character models (especially the faces good god) are TERRIBLE. They all look like chimps from planet of the apes for god sakes. Maybe I had nostalgia glasses on but I don't remember it being this bad. Oh well, at least the environment still holds up.

Is it just me or did the graphics look better in the promotional videos than in the actual game ?

I'm rocking Ultra detail, 16x AA (4x Adaptive Multi-Sample, Edge Detect, Morphilogical), 16x AF @ 1920x1200 and it really doesn't look that spectacular compared to some of the more recent games.

The copy I pirated wasn't working on the build I made, so I ended up just getting the PS3 version. I wasn't sure if the problems were due to piracy or something else, so I didn't want to risk it.

Sucks though, I REALLY wanted better graphics. It looks decent enough on PS3 but the framerate is horrible.

the biggest problem with RPG's, is that fighters arent interesting to play. I dont think any developer has addressed this problem yet.

when you select mages, you can raise the dead, and nuke the shit out of everything, also mages ALWAYS have the most interesting stories and adventures, going into dreams n shit,

also thieves, you get to assasinate, sneak, and steal ect ect...

whereas fighters, all you get to do is click a button and watch, the only fun thing about fighters is you get to look sweet in heavy armor, but thats it.

dragonage has the exact same problem, the story with mages was the best, thief was most fun to play, fighter had nothing, you could be a templar (tank) or a blood buy (berserker), how fuckin interesting is that? mages could morph, summon, blast shit ect ect.

I always play these games through twice, once as a good mage, and once as an evil assasin, fighters just dont have anything worth looking into.

I wish a developer one day would really work on the fighter class and atleast make it somewhat interesting, theres no fun in spending 40 hours tanking yourself out just to click the last both the death.

Yea I've been trying to not use any of my level upgrades because I want to try and start using Necro magic along with some fighting ability but I'm kinda scared that by wearing the imperial plate armour I've been gaining favour with them and some npc's that may have helped me go in the direction I wanted they attacked me on sight

im not gonna read much of this thread because of potential spoilers, but i am really enjoying the game right now.
if you liked morrowind and oblivion, then skyrim is sort of in between.
oblivion was a little more casual and morrowind was a little more hardcore feeling.

im playing a melee warrior class which i never do. i can tell the spells are already way more powerful but hopefully it balances out later. my 2nd playthrough i'll play as a necro or a rogue.

try playing demons souls or dark souls. casters are a little OP but melee classes are way more fun to play.

Fuck i love this game. I think I played till 4am last night. Just like oblivion but way better. Except for the menu system, I'm having a hard time with "E" and "TAB" but I'll remap those later.. for now I just want to play.

I build a Nord, and use two-handed greatswords and ancient nord bows and fireball spells. I fucking love whacking those ancient zombies in the knees with the greatsword, and how they crumble to the ground with one hit.

I really like how I can hold down the mousebutton and the fireball spell just keeps streaming from my hand like emperor palpatine from starwars.

Done the smith/forge thing, got the hang of that pretty quickly, but I'm not gonna waste time making bread and baking.. fuck that shit. Gimme weapons.

Spend last night trying to climb up to the top of the mountain to meet the graybeards.. instead of taking the proper (longer) path, I tried to climb up the mountain from the backside... managed to take a horse and get to VERY VERY top, and some weird fucking windstorm/electric storm kept sucking my health and I died. By the way you can get away with some pretty extreme mountain climbing!!

God this game is so freaking good. Just got my house and found a dog at the same time. Basically I have it setup so that my virtual dog greets me whenever i head home to drop off adventuring supplies.

A cool tip too if you are using the controller is that you can assign favourates to your left and right d-pad. Just go into your fav menu and hold either the left or right d-pad to make it a quick select when you hit either button. Makes switching from a sheild -> healing spells on the off had that much easier.

You should be able to go into your Journal, and select the quest, then the subquest, and if you then go to the map it should have a quest marker. If not, you might have to ask around for directions.

And for those of you who are worried about getting stuck with a shitty class, you can pretty much get any player to max out any skill if you invest enough time. For example, when I feel like a hack n slash adventure, I'll deck out my guy in heavy armour and weapons. Then othertimes if I'm doing a more insidious quest, ill just put a black magicians robe on and go zap people with chain lightning a la emperor palpatine!! Join the dark side or die!!! Haha

I'm like 30+ hours into the game I think and still level 18 only. Doing alot of the side quests. I think i should focus more on the magic. i just hit lvl 28, just got a wife too,

im kind of disapointed about the relationship aspect of this game, they did a much better job in dragon age and mass effect,

in this game you can literally ask anyone to marry you and they will do it just like that, and there is no dialogue after the fact,

also housing is kind of weak,

shit doesnt get stolen from your house, I notice that when I put something on a table, I come back in and find it on the floor somewhere, its like the game cant keep track of where you put them, and it just knows the general area.

All i got left to do is the imperial army quest chain, then im going back to the main chain, all these fetch side quests are getting old, also filling up my inventory and running from city to city for an hour just to sell all my loot is getting old too,

just got lvl 70 speech though, so that will solve a lot of that problem.

I think on the second play through it will go by much faster and easier, pretty much stop yourself from lvling up until you train from someone 5 times every level, i bet you can max a lot of tree's.

On the plus side, my Sneak, Pickpocket, and Lockpicking skills have gone through the roof. My Pickpocket went from 17 to 41 just from Thieves' Guild side quests. Sneak and Lockpicking are now 50+ (I'm @ Level 20).

I find that I am lagging at some points of the game even though my graphics card isn't fully utilized, CPU bottleneck perhaps?:okay:

But anyways, the archery skill is actually refined enough to be practical unlike TES4. I'm loving archery right now, sneak attacks can do one hit kills most of the time, and you can shoot from so far away. I remember firing 20 arrows at an ice wolf and have none of them hit in a snowstorm, only to realize that the wind influences the arrow's trajectory. A nice touch.

Using a sword and a shield is really fun too, and actually has depth to it ( no more just running up and click spamming)

I just finished the Companions and every single member (male and female) was hitting on my character because of the amulet of mara lol. If it only worked that way in real life :alone:

TCM is toggle clipping which lets you fly around like superman, and through walls and shit.

TGM is god mode, makes you invincible, but more importantly gives infinite stamina and carrying ability.

I admit, I caved and turned on TGM last night. I was looting the Dwemer ruins and those freaking Dwemer bars are 25lbs each. Theres no fucking way I'm going to spend 3 hours running back and forth carrying those stupid things to the blacksmith.. so I turned on TGM and just picked up every piece of smeltable Dwemer shit that I could find.

I think I weighed in at 5000lbs when I got back to the blacksmith forge. LOL.

It's not really cheating since I clear the dungeon first, then go back to pick it all up afterwards, and then turn it off once I've stored it all somewhere safe.

FYI, the horsecarriages cannot fast travel with you if you are THAT overweight.

I'm finding it a little easy to kill the dragons with just a bow & arrows. I'm also a little miffed that sometimes the gaurds lands the finishing blow. I kinda wish that ONLY the dragonborn would be able to kill the dragons.

Yah I just started the Thieves Guild.

Only "negative" consequences are the guards will make suspicious comments if you wear the Thieves Guild armor and the quests take forever to complete.

Without giving too much away, there does end up being a virtuous aspect to the Thieves Guild near the end of the Thieves Guild main quests.

If you just want the Thieves Guild fences, you don't need to do any of the main quests; just ask Vex and Delvin for extra work. Once you complete 5 jobs in a city (Solitude, Markarth, Windhelm, and Whiterun), you can complete a "special" job for Delvin to gain a fence in that city (plus the usual loot and the Thieves Guild also gain influence over the guards, so you can bribe your way out of trouble in those cities). Once you complete all of those, you can complete 5 jobs in Riften and talk to Tonilia for a 5th special job, which gets you the Khajiit caravans as a fence, though they're obviously traveling around, so they're pretty useless. Do yourself a favour and just skip any jobs in a city that you already have a fence in.

Spoiler is about the extra work jobs, not about the main Thieves Guild plot.

I did mainly Heist (Lockpicking) and Fishing (Pickpocketing) jobs to upgrade my skills in those categories.

You can do both the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. In fact, the guy who gives you your first Brotherhood contracts recommends that you join the Thieves Guild so you can bribe your way out of trouble with the guards.

Make sure you are equipped in +sneaking and +lockpicking

Houses usually only have a few items worth more than $200 but if you have points in pickpocketing, you will be able to snag quite a few amulets and rings worth $300-500 from any wealthy NPC (usually merchants)

level 30. finished the main quest and killed alduin :D walking around killing stuff and trying to bump into dragons to make some dragon armor.. I must admit, i cheated because i took advantage of the bugs to level up some of my skills.

it was way too easy, im kind of disapointed.

All I did was summon 2 dremora lords and they pretty much solo'd him.

I shouldv set my difficulty to the very highest, now I feel cheated out of a victory.

Well I guess im pretty much done with this game, it got boring fast and didnt last long, all the quests / dungeons are the same thing over and over,

and I have no will to go out and find sweet overpowered gear because the last boss is just way too easy to beat.

I guess I still prefer bioware rpg's, atleast in those games you have incentive to take your time and do sidequests and find epic gear, because all that shit matters when you import your character to the next game.

In elder scrolls, you pretty much just whip through the main story line and do some fun side quests, thats about it.

I still think this game has all the same problems as Oblivion, main story is too short, too easy, they focus too much on side quests, which get old after the first 10 anyway, because its rince repeat, and there are no results or consequences to any actions, kill everyone in skyrim? no big deal, the next elder scroll wont even mention it

So you can't even collect dragon souls yet? You should at least get that far I can't, no ... I've almost cleared all the miscellaneous quests (3 left, but only have 1 that I can actually do; the other 2 are either bugged or I need to get further in the story before I can do them), then I'll probably go through the storyline quests in order from oldest to newest. Level 35 now, too. 46 2-Handed, 56 1-Handed, 48 Archery, 67 Destruction (w/ all types Augmented 50%) and I carry around 5 different sets of Light Armor (1 optimized for each battle style and 1 for speechcraft/bartering). 270 Magicka, 210 Health, 160 Stamina.

I think I'm going to join up with the Legion just because Ulfric seems like a douche.

Archery + Spellcasting + Sneak = Gamebreaking

Poison your arrow with Potent Aversion to (insert type of destruction spell you're going to use), nail the guy for a sneak attack w/ your arrow, and then unload spells on him (if you have 70+ sneak, he probably won't even be able to find you until you've already hit him with 1-2 spells and, of course, with the required perk, they remain staggered every time you hit them w/ a dual-casted spell, so they can't even do anything to you). Once he's hit with aversion, you can waste bosses with even apprentice level spells and it's especially useful on conjurers, since they can't conjure anything while they're staggered.

I'm lvl 36 and killed at least 7-8 dragons I lost track. I'm not really specializing in any one weapon, my two handed, one handed and archery are all up there. I have 100 smithing so I just make my own armor, I've made a full set of Dragon plate, can make daedric armor but haven't found Daedric hearts which is one of the items needed. My smithing probably gained me like 6 or 7 levels alone.

It's a fun game, to bad I'm going to leave town before I can finish it.

For random dragon encounter,

I just run to nearest town.. and then get dragon to land on the ground.
Then once you start meleeing it, the dragon will get surrounded by guard (if any)
And I just bash with shield melee.. and repeat..!!

Seems to be faster/easier than just firing arrow,
That is if you invest some point into shield blocking !!

Dragon seems melee you if you're in open area and have melee weapon out..not 100% sure

yeah encoutered my first non story dragon yesterday. in fact i found around 5 yesterday. they just keep comming now. dont have enough dragon words to use their souls tho. And yeah always go to a open field so the dragon lands

One cool thing that happened, I was just walking to a town on my horse, and while looking down I saw the shadow of a dragon go over me. That was pretty awesome. I found him and killed him :fuckyea:

i dont mind that theres a lot of quests. i try to complete 3-4 side quests at a time and try not to talk to people who obviously initiate new quests till they are done.

That's absolutely retarded.

A quest cap will force players to miss out on many quests because they won't remember which area had quest givers. There's also the problem with it being a huge pain in the ass to force players to constantly jump back and forth everywhere just to pick up these quests once their quest queue goes down.


Make sure you guys save the game prior to choosing whether you're going to go with Imperial or Stormcloak. Different paths lead to different endings. A lot of people have said the Imperial/Stormcloak side story is more fleshed out and interesting then the main quest :lol.

Went Imperial and I like going to Windhelm after I've ousted a couple Stormcloak jarls and their companions from their cities. They sit at a longtable having a feast, and I just jump on top of the table, kicking food and plates at them while they say to me "you pig", "don't talk to me"

Dunno, if a dragon is near me, they usually land...I usually rush closer to them with the dragon shout spring.

only the shout "dragonrend" makes dragons land, the others have no effect

I've noticed that dragons land everytime they're "tired"
ie. been flying and breathing fire a few times
but once they're down, i just whirlwind up to them and perma bash them with shield lol. iuno, the game seems too easy, even on hardest settings :alonehappy:

So I was minding my own business and shit, killing this dragon and then going up to a shrine nearby to get a word then this dude...

bursts out of a coffin, flying around and shit and throws fireballs at me. I used the blocks nearby for cover and took him down with arrows.

...and ended up with this sweet +20% lockpick, archery and alchemy mask.

Whatever you do, DO NOT sell the masks. Keep every one that you collect. If you get tham all, you can combine them to make one kick-ass master mask!

Go to the mound outside Labyrinthia to collect the master Wooden mask, which gives you access to the mask altar

Whoever mentioned archery as a 'game-breaker' is right. I've enchanted several bits of apparrel with archery bonuses and with good arrows, a good bow, and some poison, I can take down a dragon or dragon priest even with but a few shots. I'm tempted to ditch the bow and arrow now, it's almost too easy.

Sneak + archery is gamebreaking, especially combined with the slow time shout and the archery perk that slows time by 50% when you zoom. Giants, mammoths and other tough mobs die before they turn around. By the time they reach me, I can put like 6-7 arrows in them.

I didn't know archery and sneak were this overpowered when I started doing it but I guess I should have figured. Sniping was super OP in Fallout 3 as well.

Iron Ingot = ~10 Gold
Filled Petty Soul Gem = ~10 Gold

Total = ~30 Gold

Enhance Iron Dagger using grindstone, enchant enhanced Iron Dagger w/ Paralyze using Petty Soul Gem, sell.

With my clothing upgrades for pricing and Dibella blessing, I pay about 7 gold per item (21 total, though I usually just pick them up adventuring, so free), it sells for about 400 gold after the enhancement and enchantment :)

Also, your Enchantment skill goes through the roof.
