Do you guys all have dog license?
Is this mandatory?
What is the punishment if you dont have one?
Since you live in surrey, you'll need a license if your dog is over 6 months.

I can only comment on Vancouver but yes I have licenses for all my dogs and yes it's mandatory.
Punishment = fined but not sure how much
A license is cheap anyways at $70 a year or $37 if they are neautered or spayed.

From what i heard is , if your dog was ever lost and found by the pound, and you had no license to prove it was yours, you will be fined.
Also if your dog was ever liable for an accident, you maybe charged heavily depending on the condition of the accident and who was involved/ seriousness.

For the City of Richmond -
The City of Richmond encourages responsible pet ownership through licencing, public education and enforcement. The penalty for an unlicenced dog is $200.00 and may result in fines up to $2,000. The penalty for an unlicenced dangerous dog is $500.00 and may result in fines up to $2,000. City of Richmond BC - Dog Licences (http://www.richmond.ca/safety/animals/dogs.htm)
Its best to get a license as the inspectors are often roaming dog parks,

Your dog will not be put down if found without a license. If not claimed it will be put up for adoption. You will however be fined if you are caught without one. Both mine have them. One neutered and one not.

Your dog is not put down. You are given a fine for no licence on top of paying for getting the dog out, which will depend on how long they were there for. With a license they can contact you faster so less time in the pound.
