I went in there once. It's interesting and really old school of course. I remember walking up these crazy stairs but after that I don't remember much since I was only on the look out for crackers

From what I remember, the library itself is a small room of the building, the rest rooms in the building serve other purposes :S

They are currently going through some major reno's outside. But I don't think they are doing any reno's to the inside.
I bet MG1 has some stories to tell about the library. I think he is older than the library. =P

I used to go there all the time when it was the Vancouver Museum. This was, of course, way back when I was a kid.
My father used to hang out there to take ballroom dancing lessons. Not with my mother, LOL. I think he went there to meet other seniors. Seniors socialize a lot and Carnegie had all kinds of things there for seniors. I have no clue where he parked his car, but the crackheads and homeless are pretty harmless. Just ignore them and be cool about it (as in don't look scared or perturbed). You leave them alone, they leave you alone.
Carnegie is a great historical part of Vancouver. It was on the chopping block at one time. Tom Campbell, the mayor back then wanted it gone. Thankfully enough people protested and he didn't get his way. Fucking idiot..........

Drove by it yesterday and was really saddened to see it was gone.

It is a very nice place. Full of history. If you decide to go see this historic place, take a walk north one block and east another. Kitty corner is the St. James Anglican Church. Doors are always open. If you want history, that place has it. The smell is of air that hasn't been changed in decades - incense and candles. I used to seek refuge there in times of trouble (even though I wasn't religious).
DTES is fascinating. Everyone should walk around the neighbourhood. See what it's really like, instead of driving by.................

been at carnegie a few times in the last couple years.. the stairway is trippy, it was sinking last time i walked up to the top floor. Last time I went in around 5 months ago, it was under heavy construction on the inside, so I couldn't even go up the stairway anymore =(
Oh! And if you're ever feeling cheap, they have pretty decent sized meals for 3$!! Sort of like ikea
