so i just started playing a couple weeks ago. i'm about lvl 12 now.
does anyone else find bots on intermediate really difficult? i try to play more defensive with them than i do with real players so i don't feed them xp and gold. somehow they always windup with way more gold than me and plow through the rest of the team until we're all at or close to max lvl.
so my question is what's the best way to get more gold? i've tried going after the enemies in the jungle but that doesn't seem help much and it takes a while to kill them

I Would buy all of the 450IP champs first. Gives you a decent base of easy to play champions. I would buy Kayle, Warwick, Ryze first as they can be used in a few different roles.

After that, just play the free champs until you find one you like in the role you like to play and go nuts.

Been playing a couple weeks now, bought my first few Champions in this order:

1. Lee Sin - damn he is pretty hard to use, and I got bitched at by my team for not jungling ... I'm still pretty new at this so I didn't know how, so I teamed with Akali mid. We still won the match though... afterwards did some googling on "Jungling" and will give it a go tonight. Waiting for the Traditional skin to go on sale.
2. Malphite - First champ I bought without trying him first. Went pure tank and did pretty good, but was kind of boring. Tried going all-out AD which was more fun and still did decent but I don't think it's feasible against more experienced Summoners. Waiting for the Obsidian skin.
3. Warwick - What a beast, literally! lol I raped babies with him, and he was a cheap 450 IP so I scooped him up.
4. Xin Zhao - Saw many people rip shit up with him so I bought him. I'm a big fan of Romance of 3 Kingdoms, I saw his Zhao Yun skin. Will eagerly wait for that to go on sale!

Now I'm out of IP and still have my starting 400 RP. Time to play more games!

Mid: Brand - Love the synergy of his kit and I can just let loose on an enemy
ADC: Varus - Was having lots of fun with him during this free trial week, will probably buy him when I have enough IP saved up.
Jungle: Rengar/Warwick - I am SO BAD AT JUNGLE, I actually get killed by the camps and end up so far behind in Creep Score and experience lol
Support: Blitzcrank? - Not a big fan of this role lol ... I like to kill shit, so haven't really found a suitable support Champ.

List of unlocked Champs in semi-chronological order:
Alistar - Unlocked Overeem from subscribing to YouTube, don't care for him much
Tristana - Unlocked from Liking on FB.
Malphite - Looks like a rugged face smasher. Plus I want his skin.
Lee Sin - Thought he was cool, got the whole Bruce Lee thing going, but I'm having trouble using him, as mentioned I'm not a good jungler.
Xin Zhao - Plan to buy his Zhao Yun skin! I'm a sucker for Dynasty Warriors!
Master Yi - Who doesn't have him? Plus he was cheap, I think only 450 IP?
Warwick - He was also cheap, and my best jungler (not that it means much lol)

As soon as I hit 30 I did ranked and would recommend it. You'll get placed where you belong and if you keep improving you'll climb after that. There is no such thing as getting 'stuck' at a certain level. If you are 'stuck' at a rank it means you belong there, imo.

This image is hosted on a free site so I don't know how long it will stay up for. But this is a little map with spots I just did for warding as a support during the laning phase.

The blue ones are for when you start blue side. Red ones for when you start red/purple side. The ones that are red and blue are for both.

When I am blue side I almost always ward the enemy blue buff at around 6.5 minutes into the game as junglers / mid laners almost always try to get that blue buff as soon as it is back up. The reason I go in at 6.5 minutes is so there is less chance of getting caught trying to ward it. After I have warded the blue buff I generally ward the dragon pit on my way back to lane.

When playing from the red side you can actually ward the bushes in the river closest to your turret from just below where I recommend a pink ward. It can be tricky to do at first, maybe hop in a custom game versus bots and buy a bunch of wards and start practicing landing them in the bush from there. After I have backed and am running back to lane, I almost always try to place a ward in that bush from that spot for 2 reasons - 1) it's safe 2) you can generally place it undetected so they enemy team won't know you placed one there. Especially when you walk back into their vision and don't even walk close to that bush, they'll think you have no vision and probably waste their junglers time by calling him down there.


I rarely place wards in the lane bushes unless I'm facing a jungler that is generally known for lane ganking like Eve or Wukong. A big reason they will gank from lane (especially Eve) is because the bushes are so frequented there will rarely be a pink ward placed in there so Eve can get into the bush undetected if the lane is pushed in their favor.

I will try to get more like this if you would like but for Mid and Top lane and Jungle.

I recommend you watch a high level game on youtube or go search reddit for the world championships. you'd be surprised how much you learn

A) Get some total noob taking mid/top and going 0/9/1 to feed a Nasus/Ahri then we get smashed.
B) Some smurf or "friends" account playing on the other team. He chose Riven to go mid and got 25/1/9 or something. He was 1-shotting our ADC & destroyed me with her Q-spam combo after she got fed in her lane.

I know most people think this way, but most if not all the losses are rarely my fault. I'm holding my own or dominating the lane but I can't fight off 2-3 fed champions from the other lanes.

ARAM is a very good way to build knowledge of champions and farm ip/exp and for good mindless fun.

It is completely useless in building knowledge of the actual game when playing Summoners Rift, or even twisted treeline for that matter. I would even argue that it even makes you a worse player going back into SR.

You can mute players if you can't stand the bitching and trash talk. And you're right, usually the worst player starts the bitching, either way you should ignore what they have to say whether you choose to mute or not because your own decisions would probably be more correct anyway.

The rank is just eye candy to what they make you think your skill is at.

The real actual determination is your MMR. I was playing in Silver 3 where I had won a streak of games, and was matched with players in Gold 2.

You can find your MMR on na.op.gg. I'm sure it's pretty dead on. When it says that my MMR is above my league, I get matched with players higher than me and that is when I usually fall back down.

That is the fucked up thing about matchmaking. It literally keeps you at 50% win rate unless you excel the skills in that ELO. I suspect that matchmaking even checks how many times a player had AFK or got reported and if you're on a winning streak, they'll put that player on your team.

Basically where you're at now, you'll be floating around there for the rest of the season because matchmaking keeps you at 50% win rate. That's why every player on the forum always say, better your game and you'll get out of ELO hell. So if all 5 players on a team take that advice into consideration and just practice and practice, instead of blaming each other, they'll get out.

What I found useful is the elophant client. It can pull information of your team during champion select.

And I found that my win rate has increased ever since I start dodging games where there are trolls. Even when I sometimes don't get the role I want to play, or if my team pick into the their counters. You know, every little thing that gets you skeptical about winning.

You get one dodge that costs 3 LP and 5 min penalty which does not affect your MMR, every 16 hours. So use it wisely. Use two if you really need to dodge a second time.

Whenever you get into a promo series, I swear theres always one guy on your team who does a troll pick. Sometimes they work, but most of the time they're just completely troll and full retard ensues.
Wouldn't mind starting some sort of rank 5 team to get some real games going, but pretty sure every team we'd play are well coordinated etc.

I play pretty much every role except top, and I excel in the jungle/bottom lane.
