there was a couple of cases where the tassimo leaked water while making the drink and therefore hot water would come out/trickle. they just added an adapter which is like a helmet to prevent anyone getting a money shot of hot coffee.

i popped in a milk disk last week and i dont know if i put it in off centre or what and it was leaking. i'd say the new add-on did it's job though that was the first time my machine did that.

sides. i had to give my machine a good wipe down with paper towels after and empty out my resevoir. that was my last sweet vanilla latte disc too :okay:

I would only use a descaler every year or so. Our water here in BC is quite neutral so there shouldn't really be a need to descale.

The descaler solution is quite acidic and damages machine if used too often.

Pumpkin spice latte: tastes like a watered down version of McDonalds (which tastes pretty watery itself).
Peppermint mocha: I like this one quite a bit.

The Keurig Elite is going for 79 bucks just about everywhere. I bought one yesterday at Walmart and they have the updated one with three cup sizes, even though the picture on the box has only two. Make sure you open the box and check that you've got the newer model.

I love the Keurig, because I can just get a cup of hot water for my miso soup, instant coffee, tea, whathaveyou. I love hot water over cold rice. No bar codes to mess with.

If you want a single cup and don't mind the extra wait, Walmart has the mini Keurig for 59 bucks. It's cute and has a small footprint. Has drawbacks, but for a dorm, it's good.

I've seen those industrial Keurig machines.. with the water supply tap in the back so you never have to fill, and they have their own trash bin inside the machine so after its done making the cup of coffee, it disposes of the waste before the next kcup is inserted so you don't have to manually remove it each time. the tassimo and keurig i use for the quick cup morning rush lets get the f to work asap times, the f me i have to get these papers done so i might end up with a slowly getting colder cup of coffee/tea but im still gonna drink it times, or for people who come over and don;t appreciate a good cup of coffee or tea.

I love a good cup of coffee. The only decent coffee I've seen come out of a Tassimo/Kuerig are the pack your own capsule type. But if you going into that much effort to make a cup, why not buy a real machine? If you dad drinks instant, when he might not have an issue.


Go Nespresso and don't look back. I'm currently testing out some of the other brands of capsules, and so far the house brand is way ahead despite it's price.

if he's lived all his life on instant, then he should be happy with either. as hud mentioned, keurig has the option of the filter where you can add your own ground coffee which is nice. tassimo has the option of latte-type drinks which may be nice if your mom/dad fancy those as well. though keurig has been adding teas and other drinks to their line up as well

nespresso is a step up from both no doubt but i believe the pods are more pricey as well so that has to be taken in to account. keurig on avg i find are 0.60-1.00/ea where tassimo pods are on the 0.50-0.75/ea.

Massive recall of Keurig coffee makers
Health Canada has issued a recall for thousands of Keurig Mini-plus coffee makers because there is a risk they could cause burns.

The health agency says the single-serve coffee makers were sold between December 2009 and July 2014.

More than 563,892 of the recalled models were sold in Canada and approximately 5,997,173 were sold in the U.S., Health Canada says.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has also issued a recall.

The recall says the water can overheat, spray out and cause burns.

Keurig has received 25 reports of liquid spraying from the machine in Canada, causing 17 minor burns. There have been no reported serious injuries, the recall says.

Customers should contact Keurig for a free repair kit and for steps to avoid injury while waiting for the kit.

Fyi the keurig 2.0 will only take specific K Cups. It will not let you use any other KCup.

if he just wants coffee period, cheapest is bulk costco 50 pack. iirc when i had a keurig it came out to roughly 50 cents or less each. these are the diff roast types or the variety pack.

if he wants specific flavours (i like my hazelnut flavour) then you/he will have to keep an eye when superstore has them on sale, or london drugs does a buy 2 get 1 free promo. essentially wait until they go on sale and then stock up.

New Keurig owner here. K200 was a xmas gift. So far so good.

The only thing somewhat negative about it was after brewing a coffee, the next person dispensed a cup of hot water and the water was brown thanks to the previous coffee brewed. So rule of thumb is before using it for hot water, do at least one (ideally two) cleansing brews first (which is kind of annoying).

I've noticed whenever I use my Keurig for hot water, I get brownish water and quite a few coffee grounds. I'll have to run at least 1 or 2 cycles before I get clean hot water.

I'd expect this if I made many cups of coffee of a period of time and hadn't cleaned it regularly. Except for me, this happens after making only one cup of coffee. After just one cup, you're getting brown water with grounds unless you flush it. Is that normal?
