I'm not sure if there was a thread on this but
I've been to Fatburger, Vera's, Romer's etc.
they didnt wow me

So I want to ask you guys where have you guys tried the best juiciest burger in town?

and i'm talking about the burgers you see on Triple D
(although its tough to find such good greasy burgers in Vancouver)

I've been on a similar search (throw 5 Guys, Burger Heaven, Moderne Burger into that list).

Burger Heaven would qualify as "a burger you would see on Triple D". But to be honest, it wasn't that great (the meat was dry and bland when I went)

I know this place isn't local, but it's close enough to go and try it out (even better, make a trip out of it)- check out Red Mill Burgers near Seattle. There are 2 locations (I go to the Lynnwood one), and it's better than any of the burgers I've tried here. Just make sure to add in Tillamook Cheddar and bacon to whatever you get. (the beef burgers are great, and their burgers with the grilled verde peppers are even better!).

I simply gave up finding "the best burger in Van" and tolerated whatever choices we have here until I have a chance to head south.

For me personally, I found that Splitz Grill on Main was pretty damn good. They had a pretty good selection and the meat is nice and moist.

I am also on a search for the best burger joint, but it is a difficult search.:okay:

My top 5

Splitz (http://www.splitzgrill.com/directions.html)
Five Guys (http://fiveguys.ca/en)
Veras (http://www.verasburgershack.com/)
Romers Burger Bar (http://romersburgerbar.com/)
Town Hall Public House Langley, they have a really huge burger.

I'm not sure if there is anything better. Maybe one day Boston Burger Company (http://www.bostonburgerco.com/) will open up a location in Vancouver but I'm sure that won't ever happen :(

yeah i mean white spot burgers are good but only because they smother the burger with sauces...

crappy part of oakwood is that the burger costs 15 by itself (with alfalfa sprouts :fulloffuck: ).........and it wasnt the best burger in town by far.

you guys should try out the burgers at discovery restaurant in Jericho park its not the best in town but it's up there.

I have been on a hunt as well. Here is my quick review of some places I have been to.

Vera's: Nothing special the Pattie could use some more seasoning.
Fat Burger: Again nothing special.
Five guys: The burger was too sloppy just fell apart.
Big Texx Burger: This is a place in Surrey run by a husband and wife. When you go in they give you a form to fill out. You pick the type of burger and the toppings you want. Your order comes in a brown paper bag with your order sheet stapled on top. The burger comes wrapped and the fries thrown on top, so you have to rip the bag open to get to the burger. The big problem with this burger is it's messy. All the condiments drip out and the burger falls apart. I had to keep the burger in the wrapper to eat it. The patties are made with fresh ground beef but it's just to hard to eat.

If anyone comes to Nanaimo check out old city take out beats all of the above hands down.

Agreed on Texx being messy, but considering that Five Guys is a 30-minute minimum from that area, it's probably the best burger in Surrey. Vera's seemed bland when I went to the one in Newton. The owner at Texx loves handing out extra fries as well, even if he's just using up the last potatoes in a bag.

Agreed.
Patty crusted.
Meat juicy.
Bun toasted.
Good tomatoes go a looooong way.
Onions, lettuce and homemade mayo.

Restaurants pack add a ton of condiments because it's good for marketing and can charge more but it's entirely unnecessary.

It's not a gourmet burger, unfortunately (compared to what you've made anyway.)

It's just a very honest and simple burger - good bun, beef patty (probably processed and frozen haha) crisp lettuce and tomato and I forgot whatever sauce they use. That and it comes with a generous serving of fries.

I eat at McDonalds at least once a week, just ate there again today.
I can appreciate things as they are (i think?).
If the lettuce is crisp and the patty is crusted, but not dry, i'm already really pleased.

I like splitz. Cascade room has good burgers and uses two rivers beef so cook them medium(ish). Basically anywhere that has fresh meat and cooks their burgers properly they are pretty good. A place I used to work in whistler called mountain club (sister restaurant to the now defunct ocean club) had the best fucking burger I've ever had. Freshly baked buns, we ground prime rib and chuck in house with a bit of pork as well. Molasses braised shredded short rib on top with caramelized onions and horseradish cream. Housemade ketchup. This thing was fucking bomb. I still make it at home sometimes when my guests are lucky, except I buy buns because baking is fucking time consuming and messy.

Haven't went to Burger Heaven in a long time (My dad knows the owner)
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but I've had some good burgers there. However, when I brought my friends the food was nowhere near as good. That was disappointing and made me look like a liar. I would have to say it's a hit or miss depending on the day. Which is unfortunate.

Fat Burger has been consistently good to me. Not the best, but never bad.

The best burgers could be the ones you make yourself at home. That way you can put any ingredients.

Chaise is pretty good. Good food, good service.

Not a fan of Crave though. Gave them 2, 3 chances, since I live in the area, but everything seems really bland and.. dry? Tried their pasta, burger, and even their brunch. Was not a fan. But I mean, they've been in business for quite some time now, so they must be doing something right.

Splitz on Main wins by a loooong shot in my books.
After having Splitz, even Vera's seemed very "meh." Might be my #1.

Rogue is one of the better ones, compared to Cactus, Earls, Joeys, etc etc.
But I can't really complain since I almost always eat free there :D

I recently had another burger from Five Guys and I'm still pleased. My brother brought up an interesting point that I thought I should share with you guys and gals.

Is it possible that we're all just spoiled? We have such a wide variety of burgers around the lower mainland all made with pretty good quality ingredients that its becoming difficult to decide who has the best burger in town? Everyone has different tastes though, whether its the quality of meet, how well its prepared and cooked or perhaps its the toppings and how juicy everything is.

I'm not a food critic nor am I a burger connoisseur but I'm interested to hear what do you guys think.

The Rogue was one the best venues we went to when we had a boys night out.

Our waitress (Stephanie) was AMAZING. Completely made the night.

Rolled with the punches and had a few zingers of her own.

Took off the mandatory tip and allowed us to tip whatever we wanted. Suffice to say, we tipped her way more.

Oh, we're definitely spoiled, living in the lower mainland.

You can really get into it if you want - It can depend on the company, the recipes, the specific cooks that specific day, the time of day you eat there, the ingredients, the supplier of the ingredients, etc etc. But I think we're just talking generally.

It's all relative, right? You bring price into the equation, and then ask yourself would you rather pay $10 for this burger or $10 for that burger?

But like you said in the end, everyone has different tastes. When it comes to burgers, for a lot of people including myself, it's all in the patty and the sauce.

Five Guys Burgers is good.

I don't think we are spoiled. I think we have alot of variety of different burger joints, except most of them aren't good, and the ones that we think are good are just mediocre, compared to your American counterpart.

Heck, even a city like Seattle that's NOT known for having good diners beats anything we have up here. Once you've tried the finer burgers in the States, everything else we have here is just below-par.

Just like one poster mentioned, you rarely find burger joints here that serve their burger patties partially pink. In the states, any half decent burger joint/diner would serve your burger patties medium done. It's a sign of high quality in-house made beef patties.

Vera's wasn't half-bad, once upon a time. But it seems that their quality went down after expanding. Looks like they spread themselves out too thin.
Even though I haven't had a Vera's burger in years, I remember them being REALLY good years ago when they only had like one or two locations. The ingredients were fresh and the patties were juicy. Has the quality suffered that much?

This.

One of the best burgers I had in LA was at a chain called slaters 50/50. I had a picture somewhere, but it was essentially called 50/50 because half the patty is beef and the other half is bacon.

I got a 1 1/2 pound burger and you essentially choose your own toppings.

The reason I push 5 guys so much, is because there is no fancy sauce (think in and out and triple o's) that they rely on. It's just a simple burger with regular ingredients. The fact that the burger stood out to me because of that was why I love it so much.

Everytime I get in this argument with Americans I get them to admit that they love the 1000 island dressing.

Yeah, my first time there, I was like, "wut? I get to pick what I want?" For the most part, I'm easily satisfied with their Splitz burger - either Splitz sauce, or hummus and baba ghanoush(spelling) and a dash of mustard, and your basic pickings - wait and enjoy.

They have a lunch special I believe - $4.00 for either a Splitz Burger or lentil burger (which is pretty good too IMO) on Monday to Thursdays I believe from 11am to 4pm. Anything else is extra (i.e. fries, pop, extra toppings etc.)

Went to 5 Guys in PoCo couple days ago.

Cheeseburger tasted so good with the cheese and mushrooms w/ steak sauce. My paper bag was soaked in the oil from the fries.

Only downfall was that their fountain drink machines were broken, so people had to order only bottled water to drink. I just went BK next door for a smoothy instead to wash the goodness down.

I went there at 9PM at the downtown location and the place was FULL with customers still coming in for orders. I can't imagine what lunch, and dinner time is like.

Their burgers are still as good as I remember it. Next time I will order little fries, cause there's way too much fries for regular.

IMO, they make the best burger in Vancouver, considering that they don't use a special sauce like White Spot. Everything is just fresh and simple. Nothing is frozen.

burgers in general are like pizza ... even if its fucking horrible its still decent.

5 guys was OK, it is one of my 'go-to' places for a beef fix -- I find my experience is dependent on who is making it -- if they suck my burger sucks
triple o's is always consistant, and a decent burger but I hate their fries
Wally's burgers is decent but too greasy (but its right next to my house so I go sometimes)
Wendy's 1/2lb baconator is money. Oh gawd, so bad for you but tasty. With a side of frenchfries and chilli -- perfect latenight meal haha.

I need to try something better. Cactus club/Joeys/denny's burgers all taste the same to me, which isn't very good :okay:

Tried Five Guys on Friday and as someone mentioned the energy and teamwork in the place is very obvious. It was very refreashing to see this especially in a fast food joint.

Now to the food, it was good but I guess it was overhyped for me. If I had to pick from Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendys etc then hands down I would pick Five Guys over any of those places. To say they make the best burger in town is a bit of an over statement imo at least.

For people who have eaten here before whether it be in the states or PoCo, are the fries supposed to be soggy or did I just get a bad batch?

don't know if you guys have heard of this place its called "Gordy cafe" it's on 96th and Scott road the place is basically a hole in the wall and the owner looks like a escaped convict but burgers are bloody amazing and cheaper than McDonald's. Under 6 bucks for burger fries and pop. 3 bucks for breakfast all day i got a bacon cheeseburger meal and it was 7 somthing. Def my new burger joint since it's so close!

Lost in the 50s is very good as well as mentioned above. 5 guys is amazing but a bit pricey compared to those two

Just tried this place. Pretty good burgers and the fries were yummy. Only negative I saw was the cans of pop were a little dirty on the top. Had to clean before I drank from it, lol.

If you're in Surey and well away from any of the Five Guys locations, Texx Burger is a fantastic alternative to driving a minimum of 25 minutes for the South Surrey location. The burger was fundamentally the same IMO, but can get messy once you stack on the toppings.

Had the Royal Red with onion straws yesterday, decent burger!

How's the quality between Five guys in Bellingham and the one downtown? Been to the one in Bellingham and found the burger (bacon cheeseburger) to be a little disappointing. Mediocre at most.

Got excited for the Robson opening for Five Guys, especially with this guys review!

Five Guys Burgers and Fries Review - YouTube

The Bacon Cheese Burger was solid, not the "best in town" but better than most fast food joints, pretty pricey though, my meal came up to like $15 with fries and drink. (Get the small fries, they overload the hell out of the fry box so it's overflowing all over the paper bag anyway, you get a "large" fries regardless of what size you order lol)

What I did not like was the fries ... where was the "fry that bites back" as Daymdrop so eloquently put it? The fries I got were soggy and salty ... are they supposed to be like that?! I much prefer crispy fries, this is where McDonalds gets the nod.

Tried the Max's "Local Burger". Was impressed by the ingredients, wasn't impressed by the price (it costs $17 bucks). They were really awesome about dropping the fries and bun for an extra patty at no additional charge. Also the bacon is pretty awesome. Win.

On Sundays you can get the local burger and b33r for $20 so I guess it's not too bad for a grass fed b33f burger.

White Spot... I'll just soak my own bun in a combination of mayo and thousand island dressing thank you very much. Seriously, I think they call it Triple O because they drown their burgers in three times as much sauce as they should. It's all you taste. Better off going to the grocery store, buying those three ingredients and just squirt that shit all over a gross white bun then chow down.

Not great pics i just took a random one with my iphone. the burger was pretty good. i'd say one of my top 3. one thing i didnt like tho was there was so much bacon inside that taking a bite , the fillings would fall out the other side lol. And def not ordering a burger and poutine...way too much for me :drunk:

poutine was alright. I haven't had many in my life time though apart from the KFC one so theres not much i can compare it too..

id give it a 7/10 overall

I am so going to Lost in the 50's on Thursday :sweetjesus:.

I just went today.
Both the girl at the counter and the owner (Brian/Bryan?) was super nice.

I was the last one there today and I wasn't rushed at all, they started closing down but he told me to take my time. And that he wanted to make the best burger and to tell my friends. He was so friendly I didn't have the heart to tell him his burger was close to perfect, but not quite there.

Burger looked good and it was soooo close to an awesome burger.

House made bread, fresh beef, not overly cheesey and epic amounts of bacon.

My gripes about it were.

Patty was too thin, couldn't be crusted and medium on the inside. the beef almost felt secondary to the condiments.
This could be solved by a smaller bun, thus using the same meat to create a thicker patty.
Fries weren't crisp. They needed a 2nd fry. But I like that they were thick cut and creamy soft on the inside.
Too much ketchup and mustard.
Patty was a touch on the lean side. Beef fat is essentially free. They need more fat in the patty. While it wasn't dry, it definitely wasn't like biting into a ground ribeye.
A touch over seasoned. Could hold back on the salt because the bacon was very generous.

If they just used the same amount of beef, but changed the shape of the patty, they could really be epic.

I'd give it a 7/10.
Burger had soul, fresh ingredients really do speak for themselves here.

Depends on personalities, not everyone is as open to critiscm :p

I've met some people in my career that have tremendously bloated ego's, no matter what you say they will think they are right simply because they have "done it longer than you". IMHO that's the wrong way to approach life, nobody is perfect. Everyone is always learning. Self-improvement begins with being receptive to the good and the bad.

Yeah, girl was blonde.

I always evaluate so if it's good, I can go home and make my own like a cheap ass Asian.
:lawl:

Here's how I see a burger.

The beef should be the star of the show, nothing should take away from the meat. If it doesn't compliment it, it doesn't belong on the burger.
The patty should be treated like a steak. This means a crust, and rested to stay juicy. Ideally, it's freshly house-ground, meaning they can serve it medium.
In order to be crusted, but still medium, there needs to be a high flat-top heat to patty thickness ratio. Otherwise, you will either have no caramelizing or overcooked patty or both.
This is why the Jnr Bacon Cheeseburger at Wendy's fails. There is no color on the meat.

The bun should be soft, but stay intact until you finish the burger.
The bun should be toasted.

There should be an element of freshness in the burger, this gives your palate a break from the heavy, rich ingredients like the bacon, mushrooms, cheese and meat only to be smacked by a flavor explosion of those same ingredients again. You are going to be hard pressed to find anything more effective than a ripe tomato and iceberg lettuce here.

The meat was medium well instead of medium rare like I asked, but still had no crust. There are 3 reasons for this.
1. The flat-top wasn't hot enough to create a good crust.
2. There was not enough fat used, both in the burger (that would have rendered out) and on the flat-top to fry up that crust.
3. The patty was too wide, but not thick enough.

The 50's bun broke. And it wasn't toasted.
It also wasn't super soft.

The overuse of yellow American mustard drowned out the flavor of the patty.

The burger was a perfect size I think.
I could see the patties in their cooler, it's raw ground beef, not frozen or brought in.
House-made bread shows a level of care.
Generous amounts of bacon, the most I've gotten in a non-bacon-special burger.

The price was good too. It really wouldn't cost them more to make a better burger and to tweak their bun recipe.
The only cost increases I could see in order to bring it up to a 9/10 would be a proper 2nd fry on their fries and toasting their buns.

So close.

Tried #9, the burger/cheddar.
Whoever suggested it, you owe me 8 bucks.

I knew it was dumb to order it, friends knew it too, but I felt crazy.
Shit burger. Frozen patty, and just mediocre in general. McDonalds is better.

You need your tastebuds checked. & Stick to the Chinese food....

Here are my notes....

I know it's a chain but I'm a sucker for R&Robins Whiskey Ched Chicken burger.

- I've recently had the burger at Belgian Fries, I was surprised, homemade patty, decent fresh burger, but fries were Meh, fresh cut ones. Overall, hard to complain at 10bucks.

- I've tried the burger at Martini's on Broadway, decent burger as well.

- Cactus the burger, it's good, great ingredients, but at the pricepoint, no thanks.

I went there 2 weeks ago, and it was pretty disappointing. I ordered the regular burger, waffles fries, and strawberry milkshake. The patty was fresh, but it was paper thin, the ingredients weren't very high quality either. The burger was small, the waffle fries weren't bad (well-seasoned), but the highlight was the Strawberry milkshake for me. I won't be back again though.
