Going down to Seattle for 2 days. What did you guys do with phone roaming? Use roam like home? I have a older Samsung on Telus network, I got a text saying starting July 1, my phone being a 3G phone will not work on US carrier and I need to get a LTE or 5G phone.
Does that mean I can't use my phone?
Yes. Lol
Wifi for you, only option.
If you’re travelling with someone using roam like home just have them create a hot spot
Bwahahahaha........... I have an iPhone that is capable of LTE 5G. Up until July 1st, I couldn't connect unless I purposely dumbed my smart phone down to 3G. Like WTF? AT&T with Wind/Freedom Mobile. Then July 1st happens. Now works with 5G.
Anyway................

I’m on Fido and I find anytime I’m in the USA the service sucks so bad, I think they stick you as a last priority network wise and service basically drops to nil in any sort of crowd. I try to use it at Coachella roaming on AT&T standing next to Americans with AT&T and they’re like streaming away loading anything blah blah and I can’t even get anything to load or am slugged off to 3G. Super annoying.

For those all waiting 2+ hours at the border ... Nexus is your best friend! It's $50 for like 5 years ... I'd gladly pay 5x that for the privilege of using Nexus lane. Everytime I pass people in the Nexus lane, I'm shocked at how many people who don't have it. Why people, why? You have a criminal record or something?

100x easier. I renewed after it expired and it took like 5-6 weeks ... Done online and didn't have to pay some guy to wait in line at 4:00 am like passport applications!

It might be easy to renew your Nexus pass, but I was referring to a new Nexus application. You need to schedule an interview and those are impossible to find…
At least for a passport, if you’re desperate you can line up overnight and you should get one in a day or two.
I’m coming up to three years since I applied for a new Nexus pass. Interview is in one week in Blaine. Applied in August of 2019.
So, it’ll most likely be three years before I actually get it in my hands. god bless america.
If it weren’t for Trader Joe’s and Las Vegas, I’d be like screw this………………… gulolol
Seriously, prices down south are not better than up here. Considering the exchange rate, time, effort, and hassles involved, it ends up being higher than here. The only reason to go is for the wider selection and stuff you cannot get up here in Canada. Add to that, cheaper gas, I suppose.

I submitted my application two years ago and about a month ago was finally able to get an appointment. However, I have to drive 2.5 hours away to a NY crossing to do it as Canadian application centres are still closed (in Ottawa). Moreover, the earliest appointment I was able to get was at the beginning of November.

Line ups everywhere and long ones at just about any time of day now that summer is here.
I crossed into the US today at 7:00 am. One car ahead of me and it was just leaving. Got the wave with no questions asked. Wow. I do my usual routine and decide to bypass Costco and just go home. It's 10:00 am. All reports on news and websites indicate 5-10 minutes wait times both directions at all border crossings. "Fullshit," like my father would say. When I get to Peace Arch, the line up is like 25 to 30 minutes. I pick the left most lane. Worst choice ever. 50 minutes later, I reach the booth. Meanwhile, the other two lanes are humming along. Car after car after car. When It was finally my turn, I get asked three questions and that was it. Process took no more than 25 seconds............. I can't wait to receive the Nexus card in the mail. The lineups are now well over an hour.
I'm in a black car with a broken AC. Three hours after I purchase some mochi ice cream from Trader Joe's, I get home and it's still frozen. Secret? Cooler inside a cooler. Both with ice packs. Inside cooler is a Coleman hard cooler. Outside cooler is one of those Titan soft shell coolers they sell at Costco.

went down sunday morning via truck crossing, we have nexus, 4 cars ahead, NICEST boarder guard ever. well the 5 words she said had the nicest tone.
wife had her nexus renewal interview, took 10 mins, we hit costco gas before hand and filled up the jerry cans.
coming home, 5-6 cars again. another SUPER nice lady. only thing she asked was the plate number (only had the car a couple months and told her i forgot, she got up, checked) asked if anything to declare, said not but i guess i should have said the gas, no other questions and gone.
If that's all it takes, the three years wait for the Nexus card was worth it, lol.
i'd pay $50 to skip a 3 hour line just once, let alone for 5 years. too bad most of my friends don't have nexus. i don't even wanna cross with anyone who doesn't have it anymore

Mine expired... been hurtin' for certain that one time I had to wait.... total turn off making me not wanna go back.

When I went down to Blaine for my interview, there were quite a few people who were there, with no appointments, hoping for spots opening up due to someone not showing up. It must be possible................ anyway.
My appointment was at 8:00 am, when they open their doors.

Instead of half the population ending up with Nexus... they should just treat everyone the same as they treat people with Nexus or even simpler.
Check passport documentation, check for people with visa status... and that's it.
All this taxation and what did you buy nonsense is so archaic. They think it's a competition problem? Well... Germany and Poland have no border and shit is way way cheaper in Poland... so let the people who want to make the effort to go drive somewhere to get something have their savings then.
Honestly CBSA used to be part of CCRA... they separated out and it became CBSA and CRA because they didn't what to be an arm of tax collection anymore... but that's what they're holding up everyone doing constantly every day, nevermind the environmental impacts of thousands of cars idling in place for hours on end every day.
The whole thing is stupid and can no longer be justified by anyone with logic in this day and age.
At the VERY least... they should just ask you questions at the booth and if there's anything further, immediately refer you inside... having endless conversations at the booth from your car is so pointless and just holds up the line. Nothing more aggravating than sitting there 20 minutes while 1 vehicle is sitting there in a big back and forth... just send them in!

07-26-2022, 10:50 AM
exactly, it should be a boarder SECURITY stop...not how much shit did you buy today.
Might be because of smugglers and whatnot. If people were honest, law abiding citizens, there would be no issues. I remember the days you could drive down to the US without a passport. The amount of illegal stuff that crosses between borders today, even with the checkpoints, is insane. Everything from drugs and guns to animal parts and invasive species.
At least with Nexus, you are fingerprinted and a criminal check is done. Apparently, quite a few people's applications are denied/rejected.
Who knows................
I'm playing this song every day now, gulolol.

I honestly no longer see the point of Arrivecan given how we are treating Covid. It served its purpose.
I can see it being an app to collect the contact information of travelers so they can be notified if a major outbreak occurred on their flight or whatever. But it no longer makes sense that we need to submit EVERY time we go out of country.
donk.

See it's really strange, I obviously have filled out ArriveCan every single time I even crossed the border for even 10 minutes to grab a package from PR... I have probably crossed about 30 times since we were able to... and I have only been asked if I filled out ArriveCan twice ever. And both times they accepted an audible "Yes" answer, no proof asked.
So can they see that you have or not? Are they just asking to see what you say if it matches what they have? I really don't get it. Their language about it had suggested to me in the past that they don't see it... but that could be just typical border guard shit pretending they don't know anything to try to catch you in something. Logically, it does seem odd to ask you if you have filled it out if they can see that you have... there's no lie to catch you in... so I have my doubts whether they actually can or not.
I have seen several old people get jobbed in front of me in the line, including them stopping some super old lady who had no idea how to download an app and was just furious... so did they actually see she hadn't filled it out or did she go "What's that?" or "No?" to the question?

I took so many attacks in the COVID thread for being against that damn app :lol
I kept saying to you guys -- the Feds will want to keep it, it's useful information easily obtained within one data source about a traveler's comings and goings from the country, notably their intended port of entry.

They see it. When you setup the app, you add your passport information. When they scan your passport, your ArriveCan information is linked to the passport in question, used within the app itself.

Did you run into the police check at the border? I went across around 2:30 and a roadblock was set up - looks like they're trying to find someone with a matching description.
The guy at the border was super chill though - I rolled up to the booth and the first think he said was "Hi, have a good day". Don't even think my car made a full stop at that point lol

Just did a search for interviews in Washington for any availability within the next 12 months and only Minnesota came up as a place having any time lol

i renewed mine 2 days ago. I had the same problem, i wanted to renew and there was no interviews for basically the next 3 years, then a bunch of interviews popped up for December this year and i quickly snatched it up then last month i heard on Social Media they had interview spots for this month so i quickly rescheduled. U have to be on top of that stuff and check every once and awhile or if ur really desperate, everyday if ur really desperate to renew

So I crossed the PR border yesterday with my "expired" Nexus card with zero issues.
The card is "expired" in the sense that only the card is expired (as my birthday has passed) and I have yet to receive a new card despite having successfully renewed Nexus. On the US TTP website, my Nexus status is "approved" and there is no indication that I will need an interview of any sort. The only thing is -- I still haven't received a new Nexus card with a new expiry date despite having my renewal approved for many months.
Since the card still works -- it is accepted by the RFID device on both the US and Canadian side, I am just gonna keep using it until they mail me a new card LOL~

randomly selected for covid test.
sheesh -
anyways, its not that much of an inconvenience i suppose. the border guy hands you a test kit, you setup a virtual/video conference call with a lifelabs tech who guides you into completion of the test (to make sure it is done properly), and then you can either ship it off (prepaid label) or drop it off at a lifelabs or shoppers drugmart. results were back within 24hrs - negative of course.

There's a clause in Nexus that prohibits this.
Basically everyone traveling in Nexus lane needs to have Nexus. The method you are describing is circumventing the condition that grants you Nexus in the first place and you and everyone in the car can lose your Nexus privilege.

I crossed on Aug 19 with my family.
Been receiving a call from 888-336-7735 for the past few days, I ignored it thinking it was spam. I answered it today, was an automated call and it is from Border Services Health Canada, they knew when I crossed and confirmed my birthdate.
It said I never submitted my day 1 covid test that was issued to me. I never received a test. My family was in the car and we were waved through Nexus.... In the prompts I selected that I was not aware I had to provide a test. I never received an email or anything. I called the number at the end of the message and she said I would have received an email with steps on completing the test.
Anyone experience this?

Yes, that happened to me too. I called them back and went through the same thing you did. I was told to call lifelabs regarding testing. So, I called lifelabs and explained everything all over again and they sent me an email saying that a kit has been registered, but I haven't received anything from them yet and that was in May.

If I have to guess, it's because of the fact that people are "forced" to submit information to the app and it infringes on their "rights."
Coming back today, there was a pretty good line up at the Nexus lane (as in one) at the Douglas Border Crossing. Slow at first, then all of a sudden, they waved everybody through like the good ol' days of 40 years ago. They didn't even ask me how much I was bringing back. Just peered into the car and told me to move along.

Just went to Pt Roberts for the first time since the pandemic. Lines into and out of Pt Roberts are super quiet, no line ups at all. Shops, gas stations in Pt Roberts are still pretty much like ghost town. You need Arrivcan on the way back. Picked up a refurbished cell phone for $240 US and got dinged ... because agents are super bored, they have nothing better to do than to write you up AND they need income ... I saw so many people pulled over for customs! Pre Pandemic, never got pulled over for items under $400! FWIW ... don't think I will ship anything over to Pt Roberts for a while, till they get busy again. Now with the customs, time to drive, gas to get there and back ... not sure if it's worth it.

Legally and given that this example is for PR(Absence of less than 24 hours), there are no personal exemptions for same-day cross-border shoppers. So they could ding you for picking up a $1 valued package. Really depends on the agents mood.

I find (strictly my experience) it depends what you're bringing in. Mostly I bring back toys -- model cars or action figures (Transformers, etc). I find when I say what I'm bringing they kind of roll their eyes because I'm like the 40 year old virgin or something and they find it silly and amusing... so I get a free pass.
When I say I have auto parts, they tend to get a bit more serious and the wheels start turning... and all the times I've been in for taxes was because of auto parts.
Most toys, models, etc. no matter where they are made, are duty free, so not worth their time to deal with it.

They check up my entire car, and then told me to go. Like WTF, all that work and not even gonna write me up duties/taxes - makes no stupid sense. I initially thought duties/taxes, okay whatever - I declared everything, nothing I was hiding, but I guess either they are bored and need to pick a random person to inspect.

I had the same experiences.
I had good experiences with 24/7 parcel right by the police station, not too far from the old 5D location.
24/7 has been great. Place is owned by Canadians. Very friendly people.
I had a good amount of money on the tab when the pandemic hit. When the borders opened up, I went nuts and ordered all kinds of shit on-line. All shipped to 24/7 Parcel. A few weeks ago, I was not allowed to get my packages. It was during non-office hours. I was freaking a bit. Screen indicated not enough funds. I was like wtf? Sure enough, I had a buck and change left on the tab. Drove all the way to find out I couldn't get my package. I would have to stay till they opened. I went to their website and discovered, you can add funds at any time via credit card. I think they even accept Pay Pal (not 100% sure). So, I deposit 50 bucks and wham! It worked like a damn.
Sorry for the long story. I get into story time mode once in a while, tee hee.

I had tires shipped there a few times, for larger items like that they require you to come in during office hours.

Be prepared for huge lineups. Lots of Canadians heading down for cheap gas. Even Nexus lines are long. Actually with Nexus, it's hit and miss. Download and use WSDOT's app to check up on border wait times. It's not always accurate, but it has saved me many a times. It used to have info on both north and southbound, but it's northbound only now. The app is also helpful when traveling in and around Washington State. Live traffic updates and camera views. I've used shippsy.com a couple times this year. Pickup is in Richmond in an industrial park SE of the Knight Street Bridge and Home Depot.
I've only had small orders that had no taxes or duty, so I can't vouch for that experience.
From their website:
$6.99 / per package
Discount
When you request 3 or more packages on the same day, you get 25% off the total handing fee
$6.99/ per package
Plus additional 25% off
Shippsy fee covers brokerage and transportation
Tax & duty still applicable
3% transaction fee on import duty & taxes
Complimentary storage up to 30 days
Packages over 10lb will incur +$0.35/lb for every lb up to 100lbs.
Anything over 100lbs must be received as a skid.
Some habits are hard to shake and break............ the ArriveCAN no longer allows you the choice to input your info for land travel.

Hopped the border today to grab a package, was the deadest i've ever seen Pac Hwy. Literally there was no cars.
I can see why as well, got 250 bucks USD and it was 350 CAD at 1.40 exchange.
Pumped diesel, but realistically only ~0.30 cents/liter cheaper.
FX is definitely a major factor. I was down last weekend, and coming back into Canada on Sunday evening, the border was dead. Not a single person in line. The line going to the US, the line was backed up pretty far back. Americans definitely coming up to take advantage of the favourable exchange.
Gas was $4.85 at Blaine for Regular which converts to $1.73/L. Not that huge a savings. Bellingham all the way to Seattle was $5.29 for regular ($1.88/L). Who would have thought Vancouver would have cheaper gas than the US?

4.3 costco
but yeah crazy how the gap went from 80c to 30c in a few weeks
The gap is going to widen a bit as of tonight/tomorrow morning.
Costco Bellingham consistently has the lowest prices on gas. Plus, Tier 1 gas, to boot. Casino prices, with the member pricing, is similar, but I wouldn't trust any gas from them.
Weirdest thing happened at the border crossing going back into Canada Monday mid day. Nexus lane. Only one lane, but nobody in the lineup. I get there and this border guard comes out from his booth and just looks at me. Just looks and doesn't speak. I said hi, but no answer. A few awkward moments later, I tell him where I went and why, told him the amount and that was it. He finally said, "You can go." Three words from a border guard - that's a first, lol.

Took me 2 years of randomly logging in and finally got an interview last week by following the tip to log on early in the month. Logged on like maybe 5 days or so ago and bam there were like hundreds of appoints available from Jan through to end of May. Booked the whole family in let's get this shit done god damn it.
I was in Bellingham today. Seniors Day at the casino is now on Tuesdays, not Mondays. Anyhow, went to gas up at Costco. Their car wash is now open.
It's not touchless. For a grand total of $7.99 USD, you get exterior wash and wax, tire shine and wheel cleaning, undercarriage wash with rust inhibitor, spot free rinse, enviro soft foam brushes. It also says, "Now includes Ceramic Protective Coating. Probably a lot of fullshit, but hey, it's there.
I did not go, because the freeway was a freaking wet mess.......... sure enough, after I decide not to get the wash, a few miles down the road, the sun comes out, gulolol.

This is probably a well known but I always find a car wash necer keeps your car that clean anyways compared to a good hand wash
Hand wash with good soap feels like 10 days to 2 weeks of looking pretty clean. even the best $25 machine wash looks like shit a week later

I use touchless washes on my truck throughout the year but I'll hand wash and then throw on a sealant a couple times a year. The touchless washes are good enough to get the bulk of the crap off but it doesn't come close to how much better it looks when I wash it by hand. It's 8 years old and the paint still looks great.
I used to like washing my car but with a truck it's like a 3 hour chore washing and waxing it properly.

Is it one where you have to drive onto some track that guides you or more like esso where you just drive in and sit? I've been using the esso one and get the luxury one for $16.99 or $14.99 if you get gas. It's also buy 4 get 1 free essentially making it $11.99. It's fine I mean it doesn't come out leaving you surprised on an amazing job done but good enough.
given our weak dollar and all, is it still worth the savings fueling up 1 or 2 jerry cans of gas?

I just looked it up. Boundary & 4th Ave. It looks like it's the same as Shine auto wash where you car gets on a track and the dirt gets whipped off

Holy Pearl Clutchers of America, I have waited 4 maybe more years for it to happen. Red Velvet Muffins at Costco in Bellingham. The last time I bought them was probably 6-7 years ago. Every week since the borders opened up again, I would go to Costco just to ask the bakers if they're going to bring them back. Answer each time was, "Not anytime soon, but don't give up!" After a while, I did stop asking every week. Maybe once every month, gulolol. Went today and lo and behold, there they were. Anyway, good things come to those who wait...................
I was under the impression it was a christmas thing, because one of the bakers told me so way back. Today, the baker on duty told me it's a Valentines Day thing. Makes total sense. It's here for a limited time. Baker told me to buy a few and freeze them. BTW, they have to be refrigerated because of the cream cheese icing.
Oh, being dry this morning, I decided to get the Costco car wash. It was very uneventful. It was very quiet. No harsh sounds of brushes. I guess the foam brushes or whatever they call them do the trick. When paying for gas, the option to pay for the wash comes up on the screen. Of course, you can also pay at the car wash like you would at any Shine Auto Wash. Anyway, no code needed if you pay at the pump. Attendant looks at the receipt and guides you through. The wash did a good job. I'm pleased with it.
WTH? Bellingham was like deserted this morning. No line up at Peace Arch. Little to no traffic on the roads. Trader Joe's had a grand total of 10 customers, if that. Parking lots were empty. Costco gas bar had lots of empty spots. Inside Costco was not busy, either. Even Petco had like one person in there................... me. That location is so creepy. Stinks to high heaven. My mask was starting to melt, gulolol.
Crossing back into Canada was less than five minutes all lanes and crossings (at around noon).
Large black totes with yellow lids (Made in the US of A) were on sale for $7.99 each at Bellingham Costco. Can't get them up in Canada anymore. Costco Canada went back to carrying the Black with red lids (Made in Canada). The two don't fit on top of each other. I have both, but it's good to have totes that stack nicely. Anyway................ got more Red Velvet Muffins. I asked them to get frozen ones from the freezer. That way, no need to refreeze them.

We drove down to Bellingham for the first time since pre-COVID. Crossed at 10:30AM, and made it to through US customs just before 11:00AM. Only 2 lanes were open, and most of the vehicles in the lineup were from the US.
When we arrived, Trader Joe's parking lot was packed, but the store wasn't that busy. For lunch, we Stopped by Skylark's in Fairhaven. We were going to check out Rocket Donuts, but the pandemic ended them. We also checked out Winco, it's a massive warehouse like Costco, but they have non-caselot stuff like a normal grocery store. Before we came back we stopped by Boomer's Drive-in for some burgers.
Coming back to Canada was a breeze. The customs lineup was <5min. We'll definitely have to do this again soon.

Except the dollar is $1.4:fulloffuck: so everything is 1.5x the price
Which is why I only purchase things that are only available in the US. Like Trader Joe's products. And, really cool soda flavours. Dr. Pepper Strawberry and Cream, for example.
Limited time flavours from Coca Cola.

Don't know why any Canadians would visit the States now to save money. The number of Washington and Oregon plates driving around Vancouver right now speaks volumes. Spent a week in Atlanta a so-called "inexpensive" city. A burger with fries (no drink) at Shake Shack cost $20. Cocktails cost $20 minimum. Any attraction worth seeing is $50+ admission. Plus if you're sick of the tip creep here it's worse across the line - every POS asking for 20-25-30% down there. Everything is priced numerically equal or higher now plus with the exchange rate you're easily paying 1.5x-2x.

This is so true.
We just had a trip to Portland in November, god damn. At least going down there a few years back drinks were about $10-12 USD, now they're priced the same as Vancouver, but US prices. $15-18 cocktails plus USD conversion.
We just spent a night both ways in Denver last month, same thing. Booze was always cheaper in the states, now it's even more expensive than Canada. Food, same thing, another thing that used to be cheaper down there overall, not anymore.
There are literally no savings to be found in the US as a Canadian.

^Bahaha this too!
The fucking little shitty boutique (3-star) hotel we stayed in Portland charged us a "resort fee". For what? The outdoor patio seating in the middle of winter that was closed, and a couple shitty bikes no one was using?
These hotels are attaching resort fees to hotels that aren't even resorts, no pool, no gym, none of that shit. It's crazy the price gouging that's going on to clawback from COVID.
CivicBlues
03-30-2023, 04:03 PM
Yeah fuck them fees. It was starting even pre-COVID
They just do that so their hotel shows a cheaper price when you search them on Google or a booking site and then when you pay...wham-o they hit you with the "resort" fee or even worse when you arrive or checkout.
I tell myself it's payback for all the cheap 4-star hotel rooms I got circa 2009-2015 when you could get decent rooms for like $50/night on Priceline.com and near 1:1 exchange rate. *Cries*. Oh well, I've pretty much exhausted all I wanted to see in the States. Been to every major city save for Boston and Philly, road trips up and down the West coast/Southwest, every Hawaiian island. Would have been nice to see more National Parks tho...maybe I'll get an RV when I retire. You're pricing yourself out of the tourism market, 'Murica!

Also question for if I bring my newborn. It seems like the US side will allow me in with just a birth certificate, but the Canadian side is a bit more ambiguous. Do any of you know if I need to get the little one a passport if we are doing a short trip to Seattle?

Children 15 and under don’t need a passport to enter the United States or return to Canada by land or sea.
Documents you can use instead of a passport:
* original or copy of their birth certificate (it should be issued by the vital statistics department from the province or territory where they were born)
* original Canadian citizenship certificate
* Canadian citizenship card

No, just need your passport. No more ArriveCAN bullshit.
Couldn't sleep last night. Kept waking up, so I decided to go early on my weekly US laundry venture. I got to Ferndale and realized I'm gonna have to wait an hour and a half before the seniors day stuff begins at 8:00 am. No thanks. On a whim, I decide to go further east. Burlington, to be exact. Wanted to check out what the Target down there had as far as vinyl records went. BTW, I also went to 24/7 Parcel to pick up a Fleetwood Mac 2 record set, I ordered on-line. 45 RPM LP's pressed at Pallas in Germany. Supposedly heaven to the ears. Best version of the album. We'll see. Anyway, I couldn't find Target when I got to Burlington. Description said Cascade Mall. I went to the mall and couldn't believe it. Fairly large mall, but totally abandoned. Even the Outlet Mall next to it was like a ghost town. I did find Target eventually. Lots of vinyl in stock. A shitload of Taylor Swift albums. On the way into Burlington, traffic northbound was a gong show. There was construction so it was single lane. On top of that emergency vehicles were all over the place. Two separate accidents. Bad ones. Saw one car that looked like it flipped over a few times end on end. Further down, another car slammed into a barrier. Long ass line up. Looked like a couple of hours wait. I was like no way in hell I'm taking I-5 back home. I asked this gal, the only one in all of Target who knew how to get out of the cot dam parking lot, if there was an alternative way to get back to Bellingham. "Take the old highway and follow Chuckanut. It's a very nice drive. I live out that way." Cool. Traveling along the old highway, I saw this property that looked like an equestrian centre. As I approach the place, I realized it's Skagit Speedway. Damn. If I wasn't in a hurry, I would have checked it out. Heard of it. Now I know. Skagit Speedway | Alger Washington - 360 Sprints, Sportsman Sprints (http://www.skagitspeedway.com/press/article/122788)

I didn't get any records, but thought of checking out what the Target in Bellingham had in stock. Nada. Very few LP's. I asked this one guy what happened to all the vinyl. He told me he can't keep up with stocking them. Especially the Taylor Swift stuff. Canadians come down and buy them all up. Apparently, the special edition LP's aren't available in Canada (like Taylor Swift Concerts, LOL). The guy said he'll check to see if he had any in the back. He found four different Taylor Swift LP's. I purchased the Red album. Yep, red vinyl. I'm officially now a Swiftie.
Oh yeah.............. picked up some lottery tickets. Over a billion US dollars - 1.58 billion and rising. If I win the jackpot, private track day every week for a year for RS Members.
Now I know why Target has all those Taylor Swift Special Edition records. She has a partnership with Target. I've got my eye on the Queen LP. I guess there's a market for this type of stuff. All those Crossley's and Victrola's hipsters buy. Not to be outdone, Best Buy and Walmart also have their own version of "exclusive" records.

Yesterday was an exception. I got back at 1:00 pm. I don't know how I ever survived all those years without a Nexus pass. Took nearly three full years to get it, but well worth the wait. Except yesterday Nexus was longer lineup than regular lanes (zero cars). Even with two Nexus lanes open. Still five minute wait. Good thing about Nexus is, they rarely tell people to go in to declare items. Not that I buy a whole lot.

You sound like my oldman, it's pretty funny. He's 70 and lives in White Rock, takes his motorcycle down to Bellingham every week and loves riding Chuckanut Drive, one of his favorite weekly things to do.
Damn.......... I'm thinking of going to Burlington tomorrow. It really is a nice drive. Nothing like listening to Lisa Evans (Edmonton gal) 70's on 7 SiriusXM. I don't even want to speed like I usually do. It's chill time. I lost reception for a while, but it really is relaxing. I can only imagine how cool it would be on a bike.
Come to think of it, I've always wanted either a Gold Wing or a Valkyrie. Flat Six - smooth. End of life crisis.......... way past mid-life crisis. Gulolololol
On the US penny, there's a line that reads, "In God We Trust." Well on Revscene, it's, "In Mike We Trust."
I shit you not. That Chuckanut drive is gorgeous. Not Cabot Trail in Cape Breton epic, but not bad at all.
When I posted about the nice drive, it wasn't Chuckanut. It was the Old Pacific Hwy. The stretch that goes through Skagit Valley and Lake Samish. Today, on the way down to Burlington. I took the actual Chuckanut. You head down to the Ferry terminal (Ferry to Alaska) and turn left. It is gorgeous. Lots of spots to take in the view. Can see what I believe to be Vancouver Island in the far off distance.
Side Note: I picked up a copy of Target Exclusive, Queen Greatest Hits 2 LP set. On the way back, I recall people mentioning Barnes & Noble had vinyl records. Sure enough, they did. A good selection. Found me a Barnes & Noble Exclusive Alanis Morisette red vinyl LP. I don't read books. Never thought I'd go into a bookstore, of all places. To this day, never read a book from cover to cover. Don't want to experience life through someone else's eyes. Rather do it myself.............. just kidding.

My fav comment from the first one.
"In defense of Canadians, they live in a hellish god-forsaken wasteland reminiscent of Mad Max. I've never been there or wanted to risk my life crossing the border, but I presume what passes for a civilization is an utter disaster since the must travel to another country to purchase the very necessities needed for survival. I also think there must be no roads, or they have been destroyed in some sort of hockey civil war since they drive and park like they have never driven on any form of developed infrastructure. Their energy system must have also been destroyed or eaten away by beavers since they wait in line to fill up their vehicles and paint cans with fuel. Rather than criticize them, we must treat them as the poor refugees that they are."

Back in the day, the Outlet Mall (no Premium Outlets existed) was bustling. I remember when my family was young, the wife, kids, and I went there all the freakin' time. Dollar was at par and none of the shops there existed in Canada. This was back when Vancouver was a village (pre Expo 86). Crossing the border was as easy as just driving across. No real checks. As long as you didn't have alcohol or tobacco, you were good to go. Nowadays, the only exciting thing in Burlington is the See's Candies, lol. My mom loved stuff from there. Also back then, the Burlington Frederick's and Nelson had these truffles called, Frangos. Damn, those things were good. Don't know what the hell happened to them. Oh yeah, no Bellis Fair, either.

I didn't have high expectations for a buffet of this price range, but this one exceeded my expectations. For something similarly priced, I really liked the Eagles buffet at Tulalip, but that hasn't come back since COVID.

I feel like Bellisfair is also slowly dying, I went last Saturday and it was about as busy as Henderson, lol

Wonderful buffet is still running ?!? I thought they closed down the pandemic.
Isn’t that the place that was across from bellis fair ? Or is that another buffet that I’m thinking about. Super buffet maybe….
They used to have fresh oysters with black bean sauce. Huge frigging oysters too. God I miss that hole in the wall. Used to eat like 15 oysters then go pound the wife.

What were some of the featured items?
And how much was it ... did you do lunch or dinner?
Just read some google reviews and most say food is decent but service is the shittiest ... but I suppose you don't go to a buffet for the 5 star service ..ha.

Chinese buffets were never good for service. You should be happy they even come take your plates.

We did lunch yesterday. It was PACKED. Apparently it doesn't usually get that busy.
They had some giant baked oysters and crab legs, but they never refilled the crab legs while I was there.
There was quite a bit of stuff. This video below shows most of what was available yesterday. Couldn't find any better video on YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te8Fs3cd7SA
There was a crap ton of shrimp dishes. Walnut shrimp, garlic shrimp, deep fried shrimp, etc. I love shrimp, so I ate a lot of that, lol. The deep fried chicken wings were also BOMB.

Ok that's it, I'm trying this place out next time I'm in Bellingham. Those options look pretty legit. How much does it cost?

We paid $20 yesterday per adult. It's all day dinner on the weekends, so it's more expensive but there are extra items available. At 0:22 of the video, there's a full price menu.
Based on what I saw in the video, that person probably went for a weekday lunch visit since it's a little different than what was available yesterday.
wAnderful Buffet is its own building close to Michael's Kitty corner to Walmart. Bevmo, Taco Bell, etc.
I noticed they got new roof. Looks good.
I went once to the buffet in Bellis Fair. Next to Target. I imagine they're gone. Super Buffet, lol. I went once. Can't remember how it was............. that good.
40 years ago, my friends and I used to go to this buffet style restaurant called Kovaks? It was one of the only one around back then. Located further south. Around Lakeside Exit.
Update: Frick. Didn't know they moved to Bellis Fair. NVM, Bellingham Mall (wherever that is).

It trips me out how many of your stories mirror my dad's.
I get him to pickup packages for me at the border during his little Chuckanut rides, he was talking about how back in the day you could even cross the border without an ID/Passport.
It was so common for folks who lived near 0 Ave so simply walk across and visit each other, if you needed to come back via the border crossing the guards would pretty much know you lived on the other side and pass you through.
What a different world.
Chinese buffets were never good for service. You should be happy they even come take your plates.
That's because the customers don't give a shit, either.
I was at the Hon's in Richmond eons ago when my kids were still little. This one guy was so frustrated with getting no service that he picked up his rice bowl and threw it like an Ohtani fastball at one of the servers. My wife had to restrain me, because I was going to clock this little shit. I so hate it when customers treat servers and workers poorly. My wife always knew when to grab my arm and sit me back down.
From chef/cooks to bus boys and hostess', nobody deserves to be mistreated. It's such a crazy business. I recall calling out this chump at Burger King for threatening a very young worker. The kid was terrified. I started to grab the guy and as soon as he saw the look on my face, he knew to back off. The staff thanked me later. They really can't defend themselves even if they want to.
Anyway.................

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago. They started officially requiring passports back in 2009.
I remember driving down with my dad to Point Roberts in high school to pick up some custom audio amplifier in an Altoids can, lol. Back then they only wanted to see a driver's license. I didn't drive yet so I had no ID.
Shit, I'm getting old.

Does anyone know if the washrooms near the Peace Arch Border crossing are open?
One of my American nieces and her friends were driving to Vancouver from Seattle during the BC Day long weekend.
She and her friends did not know it was a long weekend for us Canadians. They end up waiting over two hours to cross the border because they got to Peach Arch by noon. She could not go pee for a couple of hours. LUL
Signs at the washrooms: "temporarily closed".
If only my niece told me earlier that she was visiting me and my family. "Surprise! We're in front of your house!" -calls my phone.
I'm glad that she did not pay $64.95 for a Day Pass for that tourist trap, Capilano suspension bridge. -told her to go to Lynn Valley next time for the free bridge haha. Rookie mistake.

So apparently Trader Joes has this really good frozen kimbap. Anyone try or seen it at Bellingham?
So apparently Trader Joes has this really good frozen kimbap. Anyone try or seen it at Bellingham?
Put the link up in the Trader Joe's thread...........
Fuck, some people are retarded............. actually, this person falls under the category of fucktard (one notch up the scale - just below full on).
I went to pick up a package at 24/7 Parcel. It was around 8:00 Am. On the road was a huge ass cardboard container. From what it looked like, it was a 4 foot by 4 foot box for a framed picture or poster. Anyway, not on the sidewalk, but right where people park. The dumb thing was, the stupid woman left the label with all the shipping info and her name on the box. How stupid is that? Okay, full on.................
More ammunition for Washingtonians to hate on us canadians.
Oh, here's what I picked up today..................
https://mofi.com/products/kc-and-the-sunshine-band-kc-and-the-sunshine-band?_pos=1&_sid=c6f845caf&_ss=r Analog to analog to lathe............damn!
Limited and numbered copy. MoFi, BTW, mail albums out in proper containers. Exactly the way I received my Fleetwood Mac Rumours 45 RPM LP from Music Direct.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZtDWpCEVYw
According to reddit members, when you order an album from Target oe Walmart, they put the LP in a big box with no packing material. One member received an album in a freaking bag. A bag!!!
Most likely asked and answered, but do you declare shipping costs at the border?
Traum

I used to not include shipping costs in the price I declare to the CBSA officer. And then one time the guy straight up told me I need to declare the total costs of getting the goods into my hands, or I'd be making a fraudulent declaration and that he'd confiscate my stuff.
Been declaring the whole costs after that ever since...

Meanwhile, just earlier in August I showed the cashier at Point Roberts my invoice and asked them to take the total minus shipping, so I was charged PST & GST on the price of the item only.
Granted, the cashier is not the same as the CBSA officer...

So I went down to PR to pick up some stuff, and filled up with US Shell 92. Paid with credit card + Fuel Rewards discounts. After conversion and everything, it worked out to be Cdn $2.22/L.
They do offer a bigger discount had I paid with cash. But as far as paying with credit card is concerned, I am not even sure whether that is cheaper than just buying gas locally.

I always tell them something along the lines of "I just went to pick up some packages. It's about XXX before shipping. I have the invoices if you need to see them."
If they want to know the total with shipping, they'll ask. No one has ever asked me though and I've brought stuff back as high as $400 declared without getting taxed.
The last few times I went to PR, I found that the gas in Tsawwassen was almost the same price. I don't bother checking PR anymore. I do fill up when I go to Bellingham though because the premium at Costco is cheaper than the regular here.
Too bad murd0c kicked his ex-gf to the curb. Could have asked her...................
I recall someone mention shipping is not counted, but taxes are.
