We're running things though Google's servers now (basically it sits between our server and you, and speeds everything up)

It is sure a lot faster for me, but that could be mostly the CDN at work (with static resources being sent through a server that is closer to me).

But overall it's pretty damn fast I gotta say. This service is free for now, I wonder how much they will charge later? :suspicious:

Yeah I enabled it a few days ago. Also using it for some other sites. It's pretty incredible! I bet it really helps rankings too ;)

Now we can look into moving to a new host that is faster but cheaper, and a bit further from Vancouver. After that, we can look into upgrading the forum software finally ;)

it is fucking slow as balls for me. it wouldn't let me view my thanks. even once the web page was fully loaded, pictures would not show up when i would scroll down for a few seconds then randomly pop up. and embedded videos and links no longer show up for youtube.

1) Make sure adblock is disabled. You should be doing this anyway (thanks!)

2) If anything other than Multi+ is broken, clear your cache and try again. AFAIK that's the only thing not working yet.

My suggestion as an adblock policy is to have it off by default, and only block the sites that have shitty intrusive ads. I get why there is a need to block ads sometimes, but if the site takes care not to have shitty ads, it shouldn't be necessary.

We only have a few banners per page, all out of the way of the main content. I think it's pretty fair

Those pictures are completely untouched by RS. If they are low quality, that's how they are uploaded.

All we do is resize them in the browser to 800px wide. You can click on them for full sized versions. It has always been like that.

If they are uploaded using the attachments feature, then they will be lower quality probably.

If you want to show me a specific post or thread, please link to it

Skinny how does RS deal with oversize pictures? Like if a picture breaks the forum tables does RS just scale that image?

Is there any way to add the feature of previews and then you can click on the picture to see the full size image?

For example the way I have seen it on some other forums (Albeit not VBulletin) is there is a ~640x800 preview and then if you click that picture or a button it will display the native resolution file.

I think that would be awesome.

Normally it just shrinks the display of the original image, setting the width to 800PX and the height to whatever it needs to be by ratio. However there was a setting in Google that would apply height and width into the HTML code. THis caused a problem because height was set strictly, and width was then changed to 800px wide.

Normally if someone posts say a 1600x900 picture, it would display as 800x450. However Google was hard-setting it to 1600x900, then it would display in your browser as 800x900. That's why it looked squished.

The issue is that they don't allow you to change settings for each individual site you are using their service on. So if I make a change to accommodate one site, it might break the others.
