Hi, I am thinking to adopt a kitten. But I wanna know how much do I need to spend monthly for food, litter, and veterinary care, including routine examinations, dental care, and treatment for sickness or injury?

Is Pet insurance worth it? Any recommendation for a good insurance?
Thanks.

For a cat no it's not really worth it at all, pet insurance is better for active dogs. Monthly on regular dry food for a single adult cat is hard to say but it's not much at all. I have two cats and the food is $55 for a 4kg bag that will last a month and a half and a 18kg box of cat litter that costs $21 from Walmart will last me 2-3 weeks

the gf's mom has 3 great danes and 3 cats, i cant remember exactly how much it is each month (200 something for her i think)...but all her dogs have had MAJOR surgeries which were covered by it.

one had neck surgery, one had a knee replacement thing, and the other had a spine issue.

i personally wouldnt buy it for just a cat. most cats are lazy and sleep 15 hours a day. if something comes up every 4-5 years it would probably be cheaper to just fork out the money than to pay insurance every month.

Check out trupanion if you are considering insurance. They cover 90% and no limit after you pay over your deductible ( per symptom, so if same related issue happens again the year after you are covered and no need to bay deductible).

Fiancées dog had a slipped disc last year and has to operate and she had no insurance at the time. It was a costly 7k surgery. It was at the specialist where one of the patients told us about trupanion for her dogs. One of her dogs needed surgery which cost 10k but trupanion covered her 90%.
