Enormous $3.488M Abbotsford super mansion
The mansion at 29488 58th Ave. in Abbotsford spans a whopping 44,340 sq ft and includes nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
The same house in Vancouver's overbloated market would cost $100+M guaranteed. Granted its in Abottsford. Nicklebacks Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne also live Abottsford.
I would build a super garage to store my Porsches. BRB don't have to worry about bumper to bumper traffic, just minutes to USA border, have massive kray parties 24/7, 30 minute drive to Vancouver via HWY1

are you sure that's the most expensive? Just by doing quick research...there are tons more expensive houses in Victoria.

We could rent it out for 40 to 60 grand a week.
10 bedrooms would sleep 20 people. 2 to 3 grand for a week at your own private race track would be a bargain.

Probably why it appears to have zero maintenance done on it. It's an almost run-down, old house. I'd imagine anyone that picks it up would have to spend another half to million in renovations.

Who would even think to buy this house? I would rather just buy land and build brand new custom house for $4 million. Land for <$1 Million in Abby would still get me at least a few acres, and then custom a house for <$3 Million.
BTW, 30min drive to Vancouver? You think you're a stone cutter or something OP?

30 minutes from this place to Vancouver is very doable, especially with all the new Hwy1 upgrades now in place.
I used to drive by this place all the time on my way to Mission Raceway. Looked like it was constantly under construction by all the crap that was always outside in the front lawn. Oh, and if I remember correctly, there's also an underground tunnel that leads from the house down to the pool.
Still wouldn't buy it, though. :lol

12.5M in 2005 to 9.9M in 2006 down to 3.4M in 2014.. that's crazy! I wonder how much was actually invested in this property and how much the family (if they are still current owners) stands to lose...
Location, location, location!
Every property in S Surrey / White Rock has pretty much doubled or better in value in the same timeframe. I know someone who purchased in 2004 for 350k, her latest assessment was 910k and she hasn't done any renos or anything...

100Million in Vancouver? Haven't you learned yet property values in Vancouver are not based on the house, but the property. A few chunks of land to rest the house on doesn't quite equal 100 million.

This is like those pointless castles they build on huge lots in the states. Like that dumbass lady in the states who spent like 30 years building the worlds biggest house. It had like 9 dedicated gift wrapping rooms.
By the time she finished the last section, the first section of the house was decrepit and worn down, so they had to renovate it...

Started building in 97.
Looks like there was no thought to layout or functionality. Just wanted something big.
With 20 acres of land you could grow blueberry's to offset the cost.

Lots of ignorant people! This fucking house is basically a luxury fortress for living. Put $500k in renovations and the house would be complete. Or hire award winning interior home designers to stage it to attract buyers. Yeah its in Abbotsford but for country folks who like the suburb life this is an amazing house with acreage. Build tennis court, basketball court, mini golf or go cart would be so fun. No annoying neighbors and plenty of privacy. Could around naked inside and nobody would see.
I would never freely live in Abbotsford but if it meant I could live in this house I would change my mind instantly. Have a penthouse in Yaletown for summers and live in this Abbotsford for the winters. Ain't shit to do when its raining so just hire DJ's and have huge parties everyday when its raining.

500k would not do it. The whole house has to be gone threw from top to bottom to see if everything works. The whole house probably should be repainted. The home theater needs a minimum of 50 to 100 k in work alone and lets not forget A/V for the rest of the house. How much is it going to cost to get wifi for the whole house? The landscaping would be another easy 50K. The pool probable needs a bunch of work too. All that is just to start.
You also would have a hard time finding people to do the work. No one wants to finish someone other persons work.

To renovate the property to typical custom home standards would easily run 5-7.5 million.
The house is not an asset but rather a liability.

Land value. Which, I can imagine, will still be a fairly large chunk of change.
Most people looking to drop this sort of change on a large house will want something complete (and good looking) or will simply tear down and start over. And for the latter, you want property elsewhere away from farms.

Its all relative to how you want to live. Some people want to be fleas piled up on a dogs ass and pay a premium for it and as such will make excuse after excuse for why its a better way or place to live. Is the house my cup of tea? No but is there potential for great investment value? Yes. If you can afford to sit on such a large investment and have the vision to do something constructive with it.

Aesthetics aside, it's unfortunate that someone spent a bunch of money on building that monstrosity, and yet now it has little/no value to prospective buyers.
