Consider adding to this. I've seen 'the other side' of how these places operate, and believe me, nothing good comes from it. There is NO way to 'responsibly' sell puppies and kittens in pet stores.

It's already banned in Richmond, this is to get it done in Burnaby specifically

Spread the word! :spamarama:

Hold up a second, why should they all be banned because one store is shit? Places like PetSmart only "sell" animals selected from shelters so it seems a tad odd to hurt places like them because of the actions of another store.

They're all shit

Adoptions from shelters (obviously) wouldn't have to be eliminated.

It wouldn't effect them as it would fall under non-profit, therefore, not sales. This is all about the origin of the animals (puppy mills)
Either way, petsmart can suck my fucking dick with their policies about pitbulls, huskies and other "dangerous" dogs not allowed in their stores.

Oh I was mistaken, I just looked. They aren't allowed at their socialization classes, but are allowed in the store. Either way, its a load of shit.

I've been into several that have had pits, huskies, dobermans and even a rottweiler or two. I think whichever one you went into was just run by assholes =/ (specifically the abbottsford, poco, byrne and the one just off woolridge had those breeds inside.)

Its actually a companywide policy.
I only shop at tisol anyways. Locally owned, massive supporters of local rescues of all types and staff that love all animals.
Regardless, I'm deviating too far off topic from a good message. Already signed, and happy to see that this has made difference before, and probably will again. Selling animals in a mall has no place in todays world where we are informed and educated about the horrific details of where these animals come from and how they are treated.

Signed.

All my dogs have come from shelters or rescued from bad homes. If I want a purebred dog, I'll go right to the breeder.

My Yorkie is "purebred" from a puppy mill seizure. She used to be skittish as fuck. I have no idea how anyone with any sense would think it's a good idea to buy a dog or cat from a store.

It depends how someone interprets an animal adopted via a store since there's still a cost involved, do the PetSmarts in New West still have shelter pets? Just tossing in a disclaimer would clear it up.

Is great and all that people cares about pets.
But other farm animals like chickens, pigs and cows? Their living conditions isn't much better (especially chickens). Should we ban farms who mill these animals as well>?

Afaik the Abbottsford (Sumas) Petsmart has cats from LAPS to be adopted, none of the fees go to Petsmart. Everything goes to LAPS.

But I agree, why would anyone buy from a pet store? Not only is it cheaper to adopt from a shelter, but you're guaranteed to know about any current or ongoing illnesses. And you get a free vet visit/spaying or neutering. My mom recently adopted a cat from LAPS, and all of my cats/dogs have been rescues of some kind. Signed :)

I saw a chocolate lab eating her own feces there as well, it was quite sad.

The worst is when you go in there and you see the stupid little high school shits tapping on their windows and trying to get them to 'play' when you can tell the little pups are sad and depressed. It breaks my heart every time I go into one of those and seeing them locked in there.
