With the sale facilitated by Amazon, I believe it is highly unlikely that they are not authentic, and if they were proven not to be, I am completely confident Amazon would step up and replace.

The SE's were just released like 1 month ago, highly doubtful that Amazon would be unloading fakes, especially so soon ;P

also someone noted Some people are inputting their ID incorrectly. You have to enter the plain text ID first, and then it will prompt the holographic ID. The website doesn't make this very clear.

This is exactly my point. Amazon is both a marketplace where random sellers can sell, and also a place where they sometimes provide the product (facilitated by Amazon).

The former is high risk and you are right, they won't really get involved. However, the headphones are actually shipped by Amazon from their own warehouse - totally different and yes they will take care of it if something is not right.

Portable amps can be quite small. It is a bit more bulk to carry around, but if you are serious about sound, you won't mind giving up the pocket real estate. There are compact, in-line amps that will do a decent job, as well.
