These days/Boxing Day are the equivalent to outlet stores. A bunch of models and brands you'd probably never buy otherwise, but they are cheap so they become tempting.

Best brands, models, etc never go "on sale" in my experience. And that goes for almost anything, TV's, golf clubs, clothing, etc

Boxing Day has always been about year-end clearouts, old inventory, and special product runs to lure people in. I miss A&B Sound as much as the next guy, but that was in a different era. Retail is much more efficient these days - stores have better control over inventory and know what quantities will sell.

People who are expecting retailers to sell current products at a loss just because it's Black Friday are naïve. If a Black Friday sale price is better than a price will be before Christmas, even if it's not the price I would ideally want to pay, and I need the item as a gift, why not buy it?

Surface CPU has 4 cores vs the Asus 2 cores. I would go with the surface. Especially since the processor on the Asus is really crappy.

Surface is fast and you wont have any problems. Plus warranty is great with Microsoft, they are similar to Apples warranty policies.

For what you need it will be more than enough, if you get the Asus you will be unhappy down the road as it will get slower and slower as technology progresses. Again you also want your emails, browsers and videos to open up somewhat fast.

I honestly never spend under $500 on a notebook. but the surface has really gotten my attention.

The Microsoft store has deals on consoles and games at the moment, $60 credit if you buy a console and a $10 credit on top of the sale price for lots of games. Destiny The Taken King is on for $50, with the credit it's effectively $40.

Factor in the current exchange rate, gas money, and time to go and pick up whatever you bought and some of those American deals don't seem like deals anymore.

Got the PS4 with Uncharted and GOW 3 for $360 today at EB. Traded in both my consoles and a shit ton of games for a whopping $120 or something haha. I only buy a new phone when my contract is done. Bestbuy was swamped with people looking to upgrade and some getting mad they had to pay out their old contract.

Bestbuy did good for me. Only problem was the Telus system was down for 2 hours so I had to come back. No problem. Once I got back, I was in and out of there in 20 min.

PM'ing at London Drugs is the biggest pain in the ass. I've had an LD manager spend 30 minutes on the phone trying to get through to a competing store to see if they had the same item in stock. She was trying to argue that they wouldn't have it stock at that price and that she wouldn't price match it because of her hunch. She left her only customer service associate to deal with a huge lineup as she was hell bent on not price matching. I only went through this BS to use an LD gift card that was given to me.

A few years ago, I've also had an LD computer department manager tell me "we don't do that beat the competitors price bullshit." So in closing... fuck London Drugs and their price match policy. They should stick to peddling aspirin and tampons.

I too ended up getting a Nexus 6 but not due to this thread. Just by fluke.

I actually needed a phone since my Nexus One, yes, ONE can't hold much charge anymore.

Went to Bestbuy and here's what I got:


Nexus 6 - $99
Trade in rebate - $-50
FREE $50 Giftcard
Total Price: $56 and change on 2 year contract (no big deal to me)


I only buy a new phone when my contract is done. Bestbuy was swamped with people looking to upgrade and some getting mad they had to pay out their old contract.

Bestbuy did good for me. Only problem was the Telus system was down for 2 hours so I had to come back. No problem. Once I got back, I was in and out of there in 20 min.

With this $50 GC, I can continue shopping for other Black Friday deals.

I didn't get a Nexus 6, I got a Nexus 6P. For me, buying a phone is like buying a laptop. I see no point in upgrading every 6 months. I use something until it becomes impractical to use.

This Black Friday felt exactly like a Boxing Day sale. For me personally, I studied the deals very carefully the night before, then methodically planned my day out. Didn't go very far and only ended up with my phone. Only have a few issues with Black Friday shoppers:

- Larger concentration of shitty drivers
- Shoppers who bitch, complain, and chew out the poor employees who are stressed out as is. You're getting a good deal on random shit. Just shut the fuck up and buy it, get out of my fucking way so I can make my purchase and leave.
- People still don't understand how cellphone contracts work
- People don't mind paying out $250 from their old contract just to get a new phone. Is that really worth it?

Changed my mind on a DS I bought pre-Black Friday price that's even better than the actual BF deal. It is a 2015 model new Nintendo 3DS XL in Black that I will let go at cost to any RS member.
