Is there any time limit to reporting a hit and run? Can you report it but fix the car yourself without it affecting your insurance?

Unless you're the one hitting and running why would it affect your insurance? You just pay the deductable and there would be no spike in your rates

I believe it's 6 months for a hit and run claim. Most other accidents have a two year time restriction.

Also there's no rate adjustment for a hit and run claim. Just pay the deductible and you're done.

Technically you can wait to get it fixed. My hit and run repair was held off for a couple months due to a lack of available parts from both Canadian and Japanese parts warehouses. However, if you want to fix it yourself, there's no point in filing a claim then... assuming it's only a minor hit.

They destroyed the mirror, so that needs to get replaced right away. It also dented the door and cracked the paint near the mirror, and damaged the fender. It's not horrifically mangled, so my buddies just gonna replace the mirror for now to save money, but if the other driver can be caught it'd be nice to have them pay to repair the whole thing.

Depending on your deductible it might be in the same ballpark to replace the mirror vs paying your deductible and fixing everything. I would just pay the deductible :/
