Metro Vancouver drivers could see $1.60 a litre by summer

If your tank is looking empty, you’d better fill up now as gas prices are forecast to hit 154 cents a litre by the end of the week.
“I’m leaning 75 per cent that we’ll be $1.54 by Saturday or Sunday,” said GasBuddy senior analyst Dan McTeague.
“I would refer to it as a chronic shortage and it isn’t going to change anytime soon.”
Currently, gas prices are sitting at 148.9 cents a litre in Metro Vancouver, including the region’s gas taxes, and are expected to hit 150.9 cents by Wednesday – 19 cents above this time last year.
“With average consumption… that’s $500 more a year for a conservative driver,” said McTeague.
GasBuddy had predicted peak Vancouver gas prices of $1.52 in their annual gas forecast and McTeague said he didn’t expect to see prices top that so early in the year.
READ: B.C. gas prices to hit highest levels in years
He noted that the region gets its gas from just a few sources: the Parkland refinery in Burnaby and a few refineries down in Washington State.
The Burnaby refinery has been down for long term maintenance for weeks.
“They suggested that the down time would be anywhere from three to six weeks; we’re into their fourth week and it’s likely to stay down for another two to three weeks,” said McTeague.
Compounding the issue is that two of the four Washington State refineries that supply B.C. are scheduled to shut down in 26 days.
The Parkland shutdown is raising prices by five to seven cents, McTeague said.
But even if the Burnaby refinery does reopen soon, any relief that Lower Mainland drivers feel will end soon: April 1 marks the introduction of a new $35 a ton increase to carbon taxes and soon after that, more expensive summer gasoline hits the pumps and summer driving demand traditionally pushes up prices.
“We’re going to see days where we hit near $1.60 a litre, I have no doubt in my mind,” said McTeague.
“That will exceed all time records.”
The highest gas prices McTeague remembers seeing are in the mid-upper 1.50s in 2013.
McTeague said he doesn’t see any quick fixes.
He predicts that Lower Mainland drivers will continue to head south of the border to fill up their tanks, even as places like Whatcom County in Washington State are seeing a 20 cent gas price surge in reaction to more and more Canadians heading down to fill up.
It’s not a recent problem, he notes.
“We’re reaping a very bitter harvest, mostly as a result of not forecasting or taking into consideration the population growth in our region,” said McTeague.
“You can’t displace the importance of diesel or gasoline to an economy like B.C.’s.”

Refinery maintenance? Prices go up
Refinery issues? Prices go up
Oil goes up? Prices go up
Switch from winter/summer blend? Prices go up
New screw-you tax from Translink/carbon/whatever? Prices go up
Refinery back online? Unchanged.
Oil prices go down? Unchanged (and a lecture about how oil price doesn't effect gasoline prices anyways)
Why can't we build more refineries here anyways? Would that interfere with people's gluten-free yoga or what?

Would only need a new refinery down there if another pipeline gets built. The bottleneck right now is both the refinery and the lack of ability to transport Canadian crude down there.
EDIT: Like to add that the hippies down there still don't want a pipeline. They'd rather have oil shipped in from china or trucked up from the US&A.

Why can't we build more refineries here anyways?
Because the residents are all NIMBY's and scoff at the idea of ANOTHER REFINERY????
Meanwhile the owner-users have no interest in building more refining capacity for the following reasons:
- Cost of construction
- Regulatory challenges (Horgan would reject any proposal)
- Refining margins are actually pretty slim
- Environmental risks associated with operating a refinery
- Impact to company image for these producers that are sticking with the "alternative energy narrative"
- Potential for electric cars to take up market share over the coming years vs. time it takes to recover costs of construction and opportunity costs
This is car forum where everyone enjoys driving their dino-fueled cars, why not just be grateful that gasoline even exists?

Even with an empty tank, I'm only saving ~$5 if I fill up at PR (instead of doing so locally), so it makes no sense for me to drive all the way down to PR to gas up. And even less reason to do so for heading down to Blaine.
Just have to suck it up and get ripped off today, I guess... :(

Getting gas at Shell Pt Roberts only worth it if you are picking up parcel.
If you get 8 gallons, they accept Cdn at par for parcel so you save a smidgeon more on that.

$3.16/gal = 0.83 USD/L = ~1.08CAD/L
Conservatively speaking, that's about $0.30 saved per litre. If you need gas, that's $10 savings, easily. Personally, that's enough motivation to head to Blaine for a fill up, and bring back a beer or two because savings can be converted to booze.

So I did the calculation for premium gas (91):
Chevron on D Street, 92 Octane = US $3.45/gal = US $0.911/L = CAD $ 1.17/L (cc forex fee 2.5% = $1.20)
Taking the rate of CAD $1.20 (incl cc forex) x 63L (tank capacity) = CAD $75.60 for Chevron 92
Mission Chevron: $1.43 x 63L = $90.09 ($0.23/L saved at Blaine = $14.49 in savings)
RMD Superstore Mobil: $1.54 x 63L = $97.02 ($0.34/L saved at Blaine = $21.42 in savings)
PC Points saves another $0.07/L
Total savings with points = $19.77
N.Van Chevron: $1.70 x 63L = $107.10 ($0.50/L saved at Blaine = $31.50 in savings)
Total savings accounting for fuel used to get to Blaine and back.
If I use roughly 12L/100km (accounting for some heavy footed driving) on a round trip from Shell and Alderbridge to Chevron on D street (78.4KM) that's 9.41L used:
Mission: 1.43* 9.41 = $13.45
total savings = $14.49 - $13.45 = $1.04
Rmd gb: 1.54 * 9.41 = $14.49
total savings without points = $21.42 - $14.49 = $6.93
total savings with points = $19.77 - $14.49 - (9.41 * 0.07) = $4.62
N.Van: 1.70 *9.41 = $16.00
total savings = $31.50 - $16.00 = $15.50
So it turns out, a nice back road cruise to mission will be as effective at gas savings as Blaine, except, its double the mileage.

Applaud the effort, but don't think loyalty programs should be accounted for. If that's the case, use a credit card with no ForEx charges and gives cash back.

Looks like you have to go down every two weeks, which realistically, I'll probably be doing that, cause the bare minimum (91) is too damn expensive.
To maintain your Gold Status, you must fill up at least 6 times during your 3-month qualification period (see above). That’s only two times per month. Each fill-up must be at least 5 gallons or more to qualify.
Also looks like you can save more if you link a US mastercard.

I think for people with jerries and big tank cars, going across the border, excluding any time cost, it can be worthwhile if you do some grocery along with it.
Here's a good simple calculator:
https://www.crossbordershopping.ca/us-gas-savings-calculator
buddy and I just went across yesterday to pick up pkgs. It was 2.89 in Bellingham for diesel at Costco, comparing to diesel price from gas stations nearby, the difference is ~33% or ~50ct CAD/L AFTER factoring the currency exchange and everything into.
At 80L per tank, plus 2 6gallon jerry, we were looking at 120L of fuel in total, the saving was $60 vs. fueling in Canada. Not to mention the 2 gallon of milk for U$4.xx (roughly $6cad), which I bought 3 (kids drink milk like water+me making coffee) and that's another ~$10 saving. And I assume ~$10 worth of gas to make the roundtrip.
It's worth mentioning that many things in Costco US are NOT cheaper than Canada. Things like coke, diapers... etc are priced pretty much at par, meaning we in Canada get 30% discount on them. But meat and some pkg food are cheap as fuck. I got the Kirkland vitamin gummy that my kids take. It's 7.99 after instant discount for both US and Canada... but the US it's a package of 2bottles vs. single in Canada!
The way I think about is, every time I cross the border for gas, I basically get groceries for free... :fuckthatshit:

*meh, i live 15mins from Blaine...this article doesnt' relate to me.
https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/2018/03/08/gassing-up-in-bellingham/
Here’s the math on why you should (or shouldn’t) drive to Bellingham for gas
Yesterday we shared the NEWS that gas prices broke the $1.50/litre mark in Vancouver, giving us the distinction of having the most expensive gas in all of North America.
Nobody likes to pay more for anything, especially in the housing crunch we’re in right now where the City is TELLING US that they consider $1,750 to be “affordable” rent for a one bedroom apartment.
It’s an age-old tradition for people in the Lower Mainland to travel to Blaine and Bellingham, just across the border, to fill up on “cheap” gas. As long as that’s been going there have been people saying that you’ll burn more gas getting there and back than you’ll end up saving.
That’s not true.
According to GasBuddy.com, the lowest gas price in Bellingham today is $2.71USD/gallon. Let’s call the average $2.80USD to be fair.
That amounts to $3.63 in Canadian currency per gallon, or 96 cents per litre. That’s 54 Canadian cents per litre less than what gas costs in Vancouver.
If you’ve got a 50 litre tank like I have, you’d save $27 Canadian dollars filling it up at a Bellingham pump.
However if your vehicle gets 10l/100km gas mileage it’ll cost you $14.78 Canadian to drive the 154km from downtown Vancouver to the Arco at 1197 Slater Rd in Bellingham, and back. In the end you’ll wind up saving a grand total of $12.22.
As I type this, Google Maps is telling me it would take 1 hour and 9 minutes to drive to that Bellingham Arco. That’s not counting the minimum half hour wait at the border. So let’s say you drove there, fuelled up, then immediately turned around and drove back. Let’s call it three hours.
How much is your time worth? More than $4.07 per hour? If not, head to Bellingham for “cheap” gas.
Or better yet, make a day trip down there. Head to the mall, drive the coastline and check out the antique shops, stop at Trader Joe’s, and as a byproduct of a fun road trip you can stop for gas and get a price break. A straight shot there and back might not be worth it, but an adventure could be.
^ heh,

How Alberta could sow gas price Armageddon in Vancouver | The Province (http://theprovince.com/news/canada/how-alberta-could-sow-gas-price-armageddon-in-vancouver/wcm/6e2c7251-b35a-4cf1-94da-c39b40e2538d)
I highly doubt Alberta would do that.. i mean...wtf;....CUT OFF OUR FRICKIN GAS!!!! however, if gas was to hit $2/L.... well then we're F'd.
Cutting off B.C.’s gasoline supply is now a nonpartisan issue in Alberta. Opposition leader Jason Kenney has been threatening it for months. And now, the province’s ruling NDP just made it a key plank of their latest speech from the throne.

Horgan says Alberta legislation to raise gas prices in B.C. ?provocative? | The Province (http://theprovince.com/news/politics/horgan-says-alberta-legislation-to-raise-gas-prices-in-b-c-provocative/wcm/8b6a1471-0962-4bc1-80fc-c3ca7e36ac26)
VICTORIA — Premier John Horgan says he’s concerned and surprised that Alberta’s latest move in an escalating pipeline feud is legislation that could drive up British Columbia’s already sky-high gas prices.
Alberta’s New Democrat government served notice Tuesday of plans to introduce legislation that Premier Rachel Notley has said will give the province the power to reduce oil flows and likely prompt a spike in gas prices in B.C.
Motorists in Metro Vancouver currently pay more than $1.50 a litre for gas.
The pipeline dispute between B.C., Alberta and the federal government heated up last weekend when Kinder Morgan Canada announced it was suspending work on the $7.4-billion Trans Mountain pipeline expansion because of opposition and delays in B.C.
The project, which would triple capacity between Edmonton and Burnaby, B.C., received Ottawa’s approval in 2016, but court challenges and permit delays in B.C. have held up construction.

i fill up 4 of them plus the car of course.
3 x 20L
1 x 25L
from what i've experienced over the course of about 3yrs, i've been 'taxed' once. they will however look for an opportunity to tax other items you have purchased while you were down there and WILL throw in your fuel purchase to be taxed as well.
BUT if just going down for fuel, they have left me alone and let me go on my way.

(I unfortunately can't even make that choice since I don't live in the lower mainland anymore, just saying)
Meanwhile, people are paying $5-6 for a bubble tea with pearls or a frappe from starbucks.
Chill out. Don't buy a frappe or a bubble tea for a day or two. It'll help your wallet and your waistline and the increase in gas cost woes.

Very true as I've done roughly the same calculations a while back for my thirsty Jeep SRT (16.7L/100km). I would also like to point out other realistic expenses such as the depreciation of the mileage it takes to get there and back as well as the maintenance/consumables of just making that trip. Well before I've been able to take account for the time spent and the cost/hour of my life, I'm already deeply in the red. Mind you, I was saving about $40-50cad/tank and it still wasn't anywhere near worth it. After doing all the math, I felt a lot more comfortable just pulling up to any chevron near me and filling up 91 or 94 at about $140+/tank whenever I needed gas.
Timing is a bitch too. There is never a direct correlation of needing gas (maximizing the fill up) and having the perfect timing of heading down for gas. Of course, if you live close enough then its a no brainer or if you're there for some other reasons such as picking up stuff.

The point was that people can part ways with their money on such frivolous non-essential items. There are ways for people to budget around gas increases with small changes in life style.
Can't control gas prices, but you can control your own spending.

I know what you're saying, but at the same time, there are lots of people who are already running on their bare minimum essentials.
Life is not easy in a city where the living wage is $20.62/hr. And the continual high gas prices doesn't help make it any easier.

Carbon tax is:
1) Not retarded
2) 7.78 cents/litre
3) Only responsible for a small percentage of fuel price increases over the past decade
When Gordon Campbell's Liberals introduced the carbon tax in the mid-2000s, it was a revenue neutral tax meaning it didn't increase the tax revenue to the government. The tax revenue generated from the carbon tax went to low-income personal tax credits and a lower corporate tax rate.
Now, the NDP government has scrapped those in favour of funding "green" projects instead. Whether you prefer the former or the latter (or neither), either way, it's not going to general revenue like most of the other taxes.
Carbon tax, when introduced in 2008, was 4.44 cents/litre and has gone up a whopping 3.34 cents/litre over the past decade. Meanwhile, gas prices have risen from 104 cents/litre in 2009 to 154 cents/litre.
Your breakdown of taxes on gasoline in Metro Vancouver are:
TransLink - 17 cents/litre
Federal Excise Tax - 10 cents/litre (4 cents/litre on diesel)
Carbon Tax - 7.78 cents/litre (8.95 cents/litre on diesel)
BC Transportation Financing Authority - 6.75 cents/litre
Provincial Motor Fuel Tax - 1.75 cents/litre (2.25 cents/litre on diesel)
Sub-total: 43.28 cents/litre (gasoline)/38.95 cents/litre (diesel)
Plus 5% GST (which is also applied to the taxes above; isn't the federal government great?)
According to Kent Group Limited, the average retail price of gasoline, excluding taxes, in Vancouver so far for April 2018 is 103 cents/litre
So base price of 103 + 43.28 + 5% GST (7.31 cents/litre) = 153.6 cents/litre
I must be in the minority, but I'd rather save time than a few dollars. I get it if your time isn't worth anything though and you like the drive, then the trip makes sense.
(I unfortunately can't even make that choice since I don't live in the lower mainland anymore, just saying)
I save $50 every time I fill up there. It's like paying myself $50 to drive for an hour. I'll take that.

why are green initiatives/low-income credits only assessed for GVR residents?

don't forget we haven't even touched the winter/summer blend portion of the equation yet
ytd I also learned that very little of GVRD gas is refined in WA state (I was misinformed to think it was the majority), 50-60% from refined from Edmonton while most of the rest from the local Parkland site

eeeh..these math always failed to consider how our 91 is always incrementally more than the 91 in the states or any other canadian provinces. i remember it's very easy to know how much premium is in Nova Scotia because you just add 3 cents per grade to their advertised price. But not here in BC. Anyway, my point being, people who use 91 gas tend to save more than the calculated math most article/people use. Plus....who goes to blaine just for gas in vancouver? Carbon tax is charged on all fossil fuels in the province (gasoline, diesel, heating oil, natural gas, etc.), not just the Greater Vancouver Region.
TransLink - 17 cents/litre
Federal Excise Tax - 10 cents/litre (4 cents/litre on diesel)
Carbon Tax - 7.78 cents/litre (8.95 cents/litre on diesel)
BC Transportation Financing Authority - 6.75 cents/litre
Provincial Motor Fuel Tax - 1.75 cents/litre (2.25 cents/litre on diesel)

So base price of 103 + 43.28 + 5% GST (7.31 cents/litre) = 153.6 cents/litre
Victoria fuel tax breaks down as (assuming same retail price before taxes):
Federal Excise Tax - 10 cents/litre (4 cents/litre on diesel)
Carbon Tax - 7.78 cents/litre (8.95 cents/litre on diesel)
Provincial Motor Fuel Tax - 7.75 cents/litre (8.25 cents/litre on diesel)
BC Transportation Fuel Authority - 6.75 cents/litre
BC Transit Authority - 5.5 cents/litre
Sub-total: 37.78 cents/litre (gasoline)/33.45 cents/litre (diesel)
Plus 5% GST
Total: 103 + 37.78 + 5% GST (7.04 cents/litre) = 147.8 cents/litre
The rest of the province breaks down as (assuming same retail price before taxes):
Federal Excise Tax - 10 cents/litre (4 cents/litre on diesel)
Carbon Tax - 7.78 cents/litre (8.95 cents/litre on diesel)
Provincial Motor Fuel Tax - 7.75 cents/litre (8.25 cents/litre on diesel)
BC Transportation Fuel Authority - 6.75 cents/litre
Sub-total: 32.28 cents/litre (gasoline)/27.95 cents/litre (diesel)
Plus 5% GST
Total: 103 + 32.28 + 5% GST (6.76 cents/litre) = 142.0 cents/litre
does every other province get hit 10% by the Feds and also have 6% going to the 'financing authority'?
Every province is subject to the 10% Federal Excise Tax on fuel. Individual provinces have their own tax structures for fuel.

Shit that happens when gas prices are too damn high:
https://globalnews.ca/news/4174219/langley-thieves-gas-drilling/
Gas prices in Metro Vancouver are set to hit all new highs on Sunday, reaching up to $1.62 per litre in parts of the region.
Thieves, meanwhile, are devising all new ways to steal it out of people’s tanks.
A number of trucks had their tanks sapped of gas on Walnut Grove Drive in Langley on Monday morning.
Brent Theidale was one victim whose tank was tapped.
He found a quarter-sized hole drilled into his truck’s plastic fuel tank.
Langley RCMP have been notified about the incidents.
Replacing a fuel tank costs over $1,000. But with gas prices where they are, stealing a truck tank’s worth of gas could sap people of an additional $130.
“I’ve got a feeling I’ll be seeing more like this,” said Rick Cosco, the owner of a Big O Tires location, looking at a tapped fuel tank.
“And it’s unfortunate because it’s a real kick in the backside.”
The days of drill thefts likely aren’t done, with prices set to climb by as much as $0.02 per litre on Sunday.
Theilade is claiming the damage through insurance, but the deductible is about $300.
“Somebody knows where to drill the hole and maybe has experience with a certain type of vehicle,” he said.
It’s proof that gas thieves are literally hitting a new low.

$600k studio apartments are the issue here. Gas prices are small potatoes. It's twice as much in the UK, its gonna get a lot more here. Start working on solutions for your own lives. Get a bus pass, find a job with less of a commute, get in shape and ride a bike. Lots of people don't have the option, which sucks, but those that do need to take it.

I tried mid grade for the first time. I feared the car was gonna explode, but nothing happened LOL. If anything it seemed to run smoother?
Acceleration was slightly down, but that could have been b/c I was running with 1/2 a tank for a week or so (added weight). Aside from that, just a (slightly) cheaper fill

In the Province, breakdown of taxes on gas:
Carbon tax - 7.78 cents / litre
B.C. Transportation Financing Authority fuel tax of 6.75 cents a litre.
B.C. Motor Fuel Tax of 1.75 cents a litre.
TransLink fuel tax: another 17 cents a litre
Federal fuel excise tax of 10 cents a litre.
GST - 5% on top including all the other taxes.
By my calculations, that is like 45 cents/taxes per litre of taxes.

Agent told me, "Wow that's a loaded question", when i asked about how many you can bring across (implying, without getting taxed).
All he said is that it varies from person to person, but the max is 150L, and you're defs getting taxed with that much gas.

I was in Ladner last night, and decided to head down to PR for gas since it was only a 10 min drive or so. It was 10pm when I got to the border, and OMFG the line up was backed up all the way to the traffic light. Nexus was already closed by then, and there was only 1 lane open at the US side. It wasn't pretty.
FailFish
I ran some numbers after I got home, and Shell V-Power 92 octane gas turned out to be ~$1.524/L after exchange rate and my minimal $0.03/gal Fuel Rewards discount. By comparison, local 91 octane gas is around $1.719/L, though Shell V-Power is probably a touch more expensive.
Lastly, if I were to do a return trip from home to PR, it'd cost me $7+ for gas. A return trip to Blaine would be almost $9, although Blaine gas would be a touch cheaper.

^that sir right there is a clean price!
eeeh..these math always failed to consider how our 91 is always incrementally more than the 91 in the states or any other canadian provinces. i remember it's very easy to know how much premium is in Nova Scotia because you just add 3 cents per grade to their advertised price. But not here in BC. Anyway, my point being, people who use 91 gas tend to save more than the calculated math most article/people use. Plus....who goes to blaine just for gas in vancouver? Head out to Point Roberts, trip takes like an hour only from richmond
Takes me the same amount of time from Steveston going to PR or to Blaine, but Blaine is much cheaper.
Also you get to drive on the highway with no lights, and the gas station is closer to the border. No reason to go to PR.

Australia only uses RON while we use the average of MON and RON, so that 91 octane fuel is probably going to be equivalent to our 87.
Gas taxes are 39.6 cents/litre + 10% GST.
Is it really that different than where we were a few months ago (before refinery shutdowns and resulting price increases)?

Ozone is depleted by chlorine-based refrigerants and aerosols, not greenhouse gases.
The Ozone has been slowly recovering this decade and NASA expects it to be almost fully recovered in the next 50 years.
The carbon tax goes to fund "green" projects. The NDP hasn't released details on what those projects are, but I'd imagine they're related to GHGs (Carbon sinks, low-emission/no-emission technologies, etc.) Nothing to do with the Ozone.

Here's the info from their site. Might be worth it even to do it casually. 3c/gal isn't much but it's a savings regardless.
How long does my Gold Status last?
New Fuel Rewards members will receive instant Gold Status for the first 6 full calendar months of their membership. For example, if you join on January 1, 2018, you will receive Gold Status through July 31, 2018.
The first 3 full months of your membership is your introductory period. You can try out Gold Status, no strings attached. (Ex: January 1 – April 30)
The second 3 months is your qualification period (Ex: May 1-July 31). You must fill up 6 times during this 3-month period to maintain your Gold Status for the next 3 months. (Ex: August 1-October 1)
How do I maintain my Gold Status?
To maintain your Gold Status, you must fill up at least 6 times during your 3-month qualification period (see above). That’s only two times per month. Each fill-up must be at least 5 gallons or more to qualify.
What happens if I lose my Gold Status?
Members who do not qualify for Gold Status will receive Silver Status. Members with Silver Status save at least 3¢/gal on every fill. Rewards for Silver Status may also be combined with other rewards earned in the Fuel Rewards program.
I currently have Silver Status. How do I get back to Gold?
As soon as you make 6 fill-ups during your 3-month qualification period, you will instantly regain your Gold Status and will begin saving 5¢/gal on every fill. You will keep your Gold Status for the remainder of your qualification period, as well as the next 3-month period. Check the homepage of our website or download the Fuel Rewards app to determine when your qualification period ends and track your progress towards regaining Gold Status.

I'm actually surprised no one has brought up gas prices as of late. It's pretty crazy we're sitting @ $1.50 and we aren't even into summer yet.
This jump is quite unprecedented in terms of short timespan.

I cannot imagine what gas prices in the Lower Mainland will be during the May long weekend. The Victoria Day long weekend is the "official" start of summer driving season in BC and the rest of Canada.

$1.83 for 94 LOL. Good thing im too cheap to run 94. My last M3 was tuned for 94, so I had to run 94 :(
Probably will skip out on track season and continue to daily the civic, given the lack of cheap parts availability. Can't go down to the border to pick up packages or get gas.

I noticed the gas prices going up on the boards, but I use so little gas it doesn't hurt nearly as much.

Yeah... time to insure the scooter and get 80 MPG on 94. Just have to let my b*lls thaw out after the commute to work these cold mornings.
Only managing to get 15-16 MPG after putting 33's on the QX4. Requires 91 as well.

but how much is electricity in HK? :fullofwin:
16cents / Kw I believe that's twice as much as in Canada, but parking lot offers free charging from 5 to 11kw/hr.
Supercharger is about 50cents / Kw, about Cad$37.5 per full charge:concentrate:

My boss at work is talking about having people return to the office instead of WFH. I am totally not looking forward to do that at all, and that projected $1.70/L summer gas price (and probably $2/L for 91 which is what my car is tuned for) is one of the very real reasons why I don't want to go back.

Sad. I've put my Stinger into storage and i've picked up a $300 '02 civic off my coworker to drive. I was paying over $400/mo for gas on the Stinger, driving about 30k kms a year. This civic will save me for the Summer.

I sold my 4 cylinder that takes regular cuz I bought a v8 that takes premium so I bought another 4 cylinder that I think needs premium :okay: I did the math though, the difference is about $6.5 on a 52 liter tank on regular Vs 91

Can't decide whether to use my JOURNIE discount (7c/L) on 100L of 87 or 100L of 91. For the daily or for the weekend car that also gets driven?

Asked my wife if the V6 power of her RAV4 was worth the gas prices, she said yes. I married well.
I was on the waitlist for the RAV4 Prime earlier this year but decided to back out after hearing the asking price. Although gas prices are high, the overall savings from not buying a brand new car is still greater than the increased gas prices I'm paying.
All my cars require premium. My Infiniti's gas tank is huge too. Easy $105 fill up from near E and this was earlier this year. Haven't done it yet but it's currently half tank so may as well let it continue to fall

My 100hp car is ECU-tuned to require 91 octane gas, but it really runs best when it is on Shell V-Power and Chevron 94, both of which I think are 28¢/L higher than regular gas. :alonehappy:

I have wondered the same thing for my Pilot/Civic (87) and M340 (91)!
Then I realized it doesn’t matter, either way you’re saving 7c/L regardless of which type of gas you get. If it was a percent off, then obviously you’d use it on the more expensive grade! :)

My car can run 87, but gets full power on 91. You can guess which option I take especially since I don't want to nuke my turbo.

Cliff notes: you get 1 point per litre of gas, and 2 points for every $1 you spend in store. There are 3 tiers of rewards, at the 75, 150, and 300 point marks. At the first and second tiers, you get a few options for free candy/snacks/drinks in store (or just bonus points). Tier 3 is the 7c/L x100 L discount. After hitting 300 points the cycle starts over.
There can be point promos, and if you bank with CIBC the points accumulate faster.

Can multiple people use the same account? With Shell, I've been typing in the air miles # to pool it all in 1 account.
And if it cycles once it reaches 300, does that mean I need to keep a close eye on my points to make the most of the discount at 300?

With the JOURNIE app, it'll give you a notification that you reached 300pts. However, since it's $0.07/L discount up to 100L, I keep an eye on it so I grab my Jerry cans and not fill up 40L at 7c off.

Having all these accounts, cards, "savings websites", couponing is a waste of time
By the time you make account, give away all your information to advertising and marketing companies, fill your wallet with 20 "membership" cards, spend 3hrs trying to redeem blackout day flights, buy shit you dont need, spam emails with "deals"
All over what, to save 7$ once a year?
