| Dog dies after United flight attendant puts it in overhead bin

Do they have gaskets on the overhead bins now or something? I thought they were all just flimsy plastic that barely closed.

damm that is brutal, I always would love to take my dog with me to NY then I think of the conditions it would be on in a plane and would never put my dog in that situation.

Judging from the article, it might have been the 11 yr old girl owner that agreed to this when the flight attendant told her, in which case you can't really blame the minor because she probably didn't know better / didn't or couldn't refuse the attendant's position of authority. But the parent (mom?) of the girl was there and she allowed this to happened. 
Seriously W.T.F... The amount of stupidity in this world is beyond belief...

The mom was flying with an infant as well. If you've ever flown with young kids, it can be demanding. Flying alone with two kids and a dog? You wouldn't have a second to yourself.

I’m pretty sure it is against Uniteds procedures to stuff anything living in the overhead bins.
Really I’d like to know why the little sucker died. As stated above, these things aren’t airtight. Far from it. The risks which I see in the overhead bins is peoples stupidly heavy carry-ons moving inflight and putting pressure on the little bugger. Stress is a possibility. Wouldn’t be any better in the cargo bay. Can’t blame the stupid move on just the FA. Is the owner that stupid? Why couldn’t they put it at their feet?

Ill wait for the autopsy to come out but I wouldn't be surprised if it died from a stress heart attack, or even something it had prior. The dog may have simply just died, or died due to the overall stress of the day of travel.
People are outraged like the dog died because it was stuffed into the overhead bin and suffocated to death. Im sure it had adequate air. Plus it was barking during the flight so it didn't die very quickly.

What a fucking nightmare for the girl and her family. Before I talk shit about what an absolute fail for humanity this is, I kind of feel that any animal would be much more comfortable in the cabin rather than in whatever cargo hold they are usually kept. However, I'm not schooled on what those conditions look like so it's hard to pass judgement. I'm envisioning loud, aggressive noises, pressure changes and coldness; which sounds like a terrible condition for plants let alone a sentient being, so the overhead compartment seems like a breeze comparitively speaking. I can't see a lack of oxygen being a concern but those types of dogs have respiratory issues anyway so maybe he/she panicked, increased breathing and just choked out. Stress leading to a respiratory problem and eventually suffocation would be my guess as to the cause of death.
Now, as to how this happened. I can't believe that the flight attendant just didn't understand that the girl had a dog in the box and that it was specifically that piece of miscommunication that led to the dogs death. What a ball drop

Passenger flight's cargo would have the same climate (pressure and temperature) as the cabin. Notice your luggage is never arrived freezing cold?
There is no air flow into the overhead cabin, so not surprising if the dog died running out of air or barked so much that its throat is swollen causing it to not able to breath if nobody open the overhead compartment. The pug breed also have a lot of difficulty breathing due to push-in face. It couldn't have died of stress during a 3 hour separation like somebody suggested. That's wild.
I'm surprised nobody even checked on the poor thing after the plane reached cruising altitude and seat belts are off. There is certain negligence on the mom's part but the fucking flight attendant... I have no words. What a travesty. That cunt should never be allowed to work as attendant or any kind involving supporting a living thing ever again.
United, what a joke of an organization. You can tell what kind of culture they promote based on their employees' behaviors and their past PR response to viral incidents. This is hardly an isolated incident.

Common sense would tell me not to go on a plane with a pet. I mean is bad enough for humans let alone a dog. I mean at least we can walk around when we get tried but is different with a dog. You can't exactly walk a dog because you aren't sure if all passenger are not allergic to dog/animals or some passenger might be scare of dogs. Also what if the dog wouldn't barking? Some dogs are really stress when they are in a new enviorment or around tons of strangers.
