Oil based wood paint banned?

I am about to do my stairs and just a month ago it was available now it appears that you have to stick with latex? For high wear like stairs I want something oil based that will last longer. Checking marine paint to see but any other options or was it just one vendor feeding me bs?

Cloverdale paint has their "Shark skin" which is a very durable product they tout as a stain like product.

I did my front stairs about 1.5 years ago and they have a bit of wear but the color outside of the heavilly trafficed areas look good

Yes most full oil paints were banned. You can still get some alkyd based paints such Tremclad, Rustoleum, zinsser's cover stain, and if you have a commercial license Industrial Plastics and Paints sell some heavy duty oil coatings as well.

I just refinished a bunch of cedar woodwork around my house with an awesome water based oil stain from Broda Stains, Finishes, Paints + More | CBR Products

Pricey at about $80 a gallon, but awesome stuff. And manufactured in Vancouver

Those latex deck coatings/stains are garbage, when I first bought my house I applied the BEHR shit to my deck (2 coats) and it was peeling within 2 years. Garbage.

If your stairs are unfinished wood you may want to look into some high grade eurethane. They aren’t exactly paints but they do come in different tints and the penetration usually means long lasting
